RE5 to include Online Co-Op, Mercs returns! Capcom tries to cover up leaks! LOLZ!

I'll probably still go through the game by myself the first time too. But RE 4 style gameplay fits perfectly for co-op so I'll be doing that in later playthroughs (pro mode will be awesome in co-op)

Cover system? Online co-op? Dodging abilities?

Please, Capcom, just two more LITTLE things and I will love you forever: online leaderboards for Mercenaries, and Jill God-damn Valentine as an unlockable character. You don't even need to give her her own storyline, just make her unlockable.
There's no way Leaderboards aren't going to be in it.

Jill though.. don't see it happening (unless it's a dlc down the road)

Its not co-op in the main story, its a side story like the more action packed Assignment Ada from RE4. So it will probably be more about two operatives surviving the initial "outbreak" or whatever.

Actually it is... hmm. If nobody is playing the AI will control the chick... Now that I read this more carefully I am not so sure. I dont know about the two people thing, for its own seperate game fine but part of the main game, I dont know.

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!

bleh:

...the AI taking over the reigns of our mysterious female mercenary when you’re playing alone.
uh, what? there's gonna be an a.i. drone "fighting" alongside me throughout the whole game? no thanks.

:lol at the backlash already starting. OH NO A COOP GAME WHERE I GET TO KILL ZOMBIES WITH MY FRIENDS!

Woah, i love the idea of that being added in but the single player game should be the main focus. Thats what some are afraid of that the main single player game is being altered to fit co-op.

As a traditional RE fan, this pisses me off. I'm sure the new wave of gamers will eat this shit up, but Capcom is fucking with the RE formula way too much. It's not even a RE game anymore.

If it's online only then this is useless. Please don't settle for less Capcom!
Useless? Online coop is the best thing that happened to console gaming, like, ever.

Well... just play it alone. As far as I'm concerned every single player game, ever, would be better if I had the opportunity of playing it coop.

Sounds good to me, but...

we can safely say that RE is no longer in the "survival horror" genre, right? It's an action game with zombies. Fine by me but I think that fact is where any of the "backlash" comes from.

So awesome! After Capcom scrapped the idea from the original RE, I didn't think they would ever add co-op, but now we get it online to boot.

/bow Capcom.

Did you never play Outbreak online? It was an awesome experience. If they can get even close to that, I'll be damn happy.

Listen, you soggy cunt, the Resident Evil games have always been one player games. That's how I will play it. If this effects the one player game this is nothing more than horrible news. I'm holding out hope.

Clearly, you two won't be playing co-op with each other.

Unfortunately, this generation, the only thing I can be certain of is that I can never be certain. The stupidity running through the games industry as of late means that I won't trust Capcom to put in leaderboards until I can see them with my own eyes.

$20 I'm willing to pay for a downloadable Jill to play through the game with. You hear me Capcom??

No, you cant design a game the same way you do for one person as you do for two. The design for single player games are usually done very carefully and usually make better games cause its specifically made for one person, once you start adding people things can get messy. Adding co-op to RE4s game with no alteration would not make it better. There is a reason why single player games many times turn out to be the best games.

Oh lord @ people bashing this news :lol :lol :lol

This is fucking awesome and I've played alot of old RE's. It's fine with me! I love coop and I love RE and I love killing zombies with friends!

REJOICE!

Its amazing that they're willing to change so many things about the franchise yet they refuse to get rid of the shitty tank controls. :lol

So does this mean you'll be able to choose between the two characters like in the old REs?

Maybe, that would be sweet. Maybe they branch off, you could stay in communication throughout but at some points your characters go off in their own path, that way you can play the game two different ways. That would be sweet!

I've been dreaming of a co-op Resident Evil story mode ever since I tried the beta version of Resident Evil Online with my best friend at the Playstation Experience in Paris a few years ago. I'm pretty excited about this.

The controls on RE4 is exactly what made it so perfect. Make it move like any third person shooter and it becomes any third person shooter. The way the game is designed fits that style of control just fine.

I have nothing to add to this thread other than HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

Outlook for 2009 is looking pretty solid with this game alone.......

That's exactly where my concerns lie.

There are extensive playable flashbacks and we've already seen concept art of what looks like the STARS chopper fleeing the exploding Spencer mansion.

With consoles as expensive as they are it's hard for me to find people with 360s/PS3s let alone the same games I like. The only people I know with anything next gen are either well off from their parents or they dropped out of school and work all day and if it's not Halo, Guitar Hero, GTA or Madden it sucks. I'm really pissed at the trend of games offering online play but not split-screen because that's about the only way I'll ever get to play it with friends. There's nothing wrong with online as long as split-screen is there too.

The 'tank' controls weren't bad in RE4 and now that they have God Hand dodging, I assume they also allow you to do all the neat movement combos that you could in God Hand.

GAF friends?

Take your time capcom. i fully expect to see the face of god when this game is released.

Including co-op is interesting news. With RE 4 becoming a giant success and a drastic departure from the tired and true classic RE formula, the flood gates for new ideas and mechanics sure have opened.

God Hand style dodging? I have to see that before I say its good or bad for this sort of game but everything else sounds ACE!!! They better have at least 6 Merc levels with more via digital download service. I must of played the 4 Merc levels in RE4 a couple thousand times by now.
