Ready At Dawn affected by Meta layoffs

An odd company.

Their GOW PSP games got scored well. Their most recent PC VR gaming do too.

But then 1886 and Deformers in between them got trashed.

Their VR game is one of the best out there. And their tech talent is top tier as well.
I never played their VR game so I have no opinion. As far as VR is considered I am pretty positive there is no game that can hold a candle to Half Life Alyx.

I am talking about their previous titles such as Order 1886 and so on. The GoW games on PSP were good, but those were different days.

Yeah, tech is impressive but that can only go so far. Guerilla Games also has impressive tech but both Horizon and Killzone lack a tad in gameplay and can feel repetetive at times.

Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games and Sonta Monica I feel like are the only ones who have a good balance of tech talent and gameplay design.

One of the best built worlds in gaming for lore and potential. Had it landed on PS4 launch date, l'm sure early adopters would have been more forgiving and they would have gotten another shot at 1887 with a vastly longer game that would have been better received.

The Order in VR. Do it Sony.

And this is why it pains a lot of us that there may never be a sequel. It was setup so well at the end with the cliffhanger, and they could have built upon the criticisms for 1887 as well. The gunplay was fantastic, just needed more of those set pieces.

The Order 1886 was great but got drowned out by the "muh $60!" crowd because of its length. A lot of people who tried it at $15 thought it was as solid title.

The studio had a lot of potential so this is a real shame. Shouldn't have put all of their eggs into the VR basket.

Sony should acquire a mediocre team? a team that was this stupid to include an entire episode that was only cinematic? no, these guys at RaD surely forgot what videogames are.
In fairness the next game they made was the exact opposite, a game which had no cutscenes, told it's story inna visceral, direct way, and featured and utterly original gameplay and interaction paradigm.

RaD learned every lesson from The Order and made one of the best games of 2017.

Which makes a no 1887 even more sad for us.

They are a talented studio and I'm certain those who were let go will find their feet.

Didn't their character artist end up at ND for example after the order?

Unless they just fired the usual community people with pink hair and no skills... they probably won't land on their feet hahaha

Damn, that's a bummer. I really like Ready at Dawn. I honestly can't remember what I played of theirs but I know I thought their PSP games were impressive. I always get Ready at Dawn and Sony Bend confused. Aren't they both dead at this point? I know I could Google it but I'm working and only replying cause I'm taking a poop right now.

You're welcome. 😅

Serious answer though, the Lone Echo games are a pretty strong second place, and the multiplayer spinoff was also great.

RE Village? I haven't played Alyx but Village on PSVR2.... I have a hard time seeing Alyx being THAT much better. I could be wrong of course. Hopefully it comes to PSVR2, would love to see what it's all about.

Not to beat a dead horse here because others have jumped in already.

But lone echo was thee half life alyx for vr for a very long time. Obviously alyx is top tier with very few games coming close but yeah lone echo was that game for a long time.

Which makes lone echo 2 all that disappointing. It's still a great game but I think the expectations for them to really go ham was there and it ended up being a really good sequel but nothing new

There's no evidence that ever existed, though.

Only source for this is Grubb, and Coalition of all devs has no need to make a whole game to 'test' UE5. Grubb likely made that up to cover his ass after mistaking their GDC tech demo for a game.

A 200 man AAA studio with immense UE proficiency isn't going to devote all manpower to make a small AA game.

I mean, Greenberg has been saying this since 2021, and here is him still saying "multiple unannounced projects" post Matrix demo.
One has to assume he's not lying, and one would also assume that these multiple projects aren't all full blown Gears-level AAA titles.
I think the "test out UE5" nonsense was all Grubb, and they're just simply making multiple games.

I didn't paid attention on their future projects, because with The order 1886 they indeed screwed up, so I lost all interest in the team.

In a perfect world we would of seen trailers for Lone Echo 1 and Lone Echo 2 on PSVR2 by now. Way too few people experienced that game.

The facials animations and motion of the woman in that game was second to none at the time and it was an extremely immersive experience.

I also enjoyed echo combat, but it just took way too long to find games, and mstches were too short.

And then the kids took over VR mp.
