I love karaoke! I do it every second Friday night at one of the local bars. Every now and then my friends and I switch things up and head downtown for the big scene. I tend toward stuff like Pink Floyd because that's more typical of my vocal range, but when I'm drunk, Carly Rae Jepsen
and even Cher
can happen. And then things like Reznor and Maynard and all that good jam.

What sorta songs do you do?

generally songs made before i was. last time i did, i sang Holding out For A Hero and What's up. I like singing. there is a guy i sing Under Pressure with, i'm Freddie and i hit the notes, or soemthing really close. i'm working on expanding my horizons. i do a lot of queen, actually

Stellar! I've done some Queen before, too, but admittedly some of those notes are just not happening for me, haha.

Karaoke rocks.

Same rules apply.

And wow, only just realized your GAF name is backwards.

Mind blown

it just takes a mix of the right scene, venue, and people.

for those who know Miami, i go to the Upper Deck. nice venue.

i would be going today if my nieces and nephew weren't over. :/

Years of choirs and juries in front of scary musicians with PhDs, and I still can't bring myself to do karaoke in front of a crowd.

I can perform piano in front of thousands of people but karaoke scares the shit out of me.

... although I did once sing Like a Virgin. BUT I WAS REALLY DRUNK.

:(

Like the good brother iosefe said, it's all about the venue. Maybe you haven't found the "right" one yet? I dunno. :p What I do know is, "choirs and juries in front of scary musicians with PhDs" sounds scarier to me!

This is kinda me. Not necessarily karaoke, but singing alone in front of people. I had solos when I sang in choir, but I was always super nervous. Even being in the quartet was better than singing alone for me. Though when my senior recital came about, the stage fright mostly went away.

ya'll should do karaoke. it's good for the soul

Oh god, piano is even worse for me. The first semester I learned to play, I froze at the piano during my final. I had to ask for a moment to calm down and start again. :|

What do you like to play?

i taught myself piano, the basics, a tune or 3 or 4, then did chorus in highschool and applied the theory i learned to the piano. i'm okay i guess, still learning how to read sheet music right, in a way that i can just pick up and play, but i'm a lot of practice away form that

Classical is my niche. Worked with opera singers for quite a while. Video game arrangements are always fun too.

Something a friend said to me about karaoke helped me get the courage to do it: "You're not there to sing, you're there to entertain"

Well, that and the large quantities of alcohol I consumed.

Just got home. Gotta get to bed soon and wake up at 4 in the morning so I can take a 3 hour bus ride to New York. I normally go to bed around 4. Goddammit.

Going to post a song that I doubt anyone will like, but I looove. Friend showed it to me, it's like it fell out of the early 90's, it's amazing.

Mistakes Were Made. It definitely grew on me as it went on.

I think karaoke is way more about not caring about looking like a fool and hamming it up than actual talent.

Where's jason or kisaya to back me up on this?

Feel really guilty having not played piano in about 3 or 4 years. Had it hammered into me from a very young age with my mum being a Piano teacher, but through my early teens I really started to resent it. When I finished school I just stopped playing but now I really feel I should go back to it.

Huh, seems someone tried to log into my Facebook account last night.

my bad

Do it! It's really one of the things that has given me the most joy in this life.
