It's not because you're trying to avoid the choice to have the other person be happy with being able to choose. It's because you both want to eat something that isn't healthy and has way too many calories, and you're looking to each other for support in making a "better" choice.
At least, that's the way it is in my marriage

My new rule is if I don't get an answer the first time I ask, I'll cook whatever I want. Which is usually very plain and boring since I'm a lazy cook.
It's worked pretty well so far.
Goal is to not eat take out every day like we would before. :/

Nah, with my old relationship it was a matter of her not wanting to say what she wanted to freakin' eat.
I'm the least picky dude in the world and will go for just about anything at any time. I can make it work, no problem. Cooking too! I can do shit with just about anything we'd have in the cabinets.
It didn't matter though. It was a pure test of will that would happen about once a month.
I lie, I know she didn't do it in purpose but man was it frustrating.
