Rear Durango, a new view for the Alpha Kit [vgleaks]

I guess we can look forward to these becoming far more frequent up until CES (possibility?) or E3.

Dafuq? This looks like a print photograph which was then photographed by a digital camera. Look at the cloth fibers and dust. Also, the the tower almost looks two dimensional.

Yeah that tower looks hilariously fake.

The reason this screams "FAKE!!!" To me is the fact that the person who submitted the photograph tried to make it seem more real by circling USB ports and calling them Kinect and Controller ports. If the photographer is BSing to try to convince that it is real, then it most likely is NOT real.

I would be astonished if next gen console GPUs perform anywhere near a desktop 6950 or 6870. They will probably be closer to notebook GPUs.

I bet my right ball that atleast one of the consoles will have a gpu thats atleast as powerful as a 7970

We're talking about end of 2013/2014 here ppl

I won't bet on GPUs. it all depends on the wattage MS picks for the console... But probably 7750 should be achievable if they go around slim levels in 2013

But the HD8000 series should be supposed to be in next gen!

(Until Maxwell details become public, that is!)

Oh I'm talking performance, so that would probably translate to 8600 levels, which should be pretty good although I prefer better. But who knows, I just think they can get such performance in the wattage they are probably aiming for... But they could go lower and they could go higher...

That's about what I expect, something in the ballpark of the 7700 series. 7750 fits the wattage bill pretty well.

But despite being a massive step above current gen consoles it seems like most people around here call anything that's not a top of the line GPU a "half step."

Can you blame them though? Epic has been ranting and raving about the 2.5 teraflops number, Square Enix, Lucas Arts, and Ubisoft showed games on a GTX 680 - it's been stamped in the mind of the tech heads.

The thing is 2.5 teraflops isn't exactly out of reach if both Sony and MS went with the rumoured 8000 series cards. However, those specs seem optimistic as hell, so I'll believe it when I see it.

The 8000 series is releasing in a time frame that is perfectly suitable for next-gen. The only thing yet to be seen is if the rumoured performance from the graph holds up. If it does, a 2.5-3.0 teraflop machine might be possible.

I don't think that 8000 series rumor was specific. The picture was just of the leaked cards, which happened to be the 8800 series (some 8900 specs also leaked shortly after).

I'm guessing he is talking about the screens that are being used with the devkits & not the retail consoles. but hopefully people with devkits already was using the screens with 1080P & more to begin with.

Edit: why was I thinking about the actually screen? SMH LOL I guess this means all games must be native 1080P.

Sounds like he's saying MS is making 1080p mandatory. If so, that won't last IMO.

Hope it wouldn't anyway. As much as I'm all for better resolution where possible, it should be up to the developer past 720p IMO. Some devs will want to spend their cycle on better pixels vs more.

Exactly. Making such requirements will only hinder them in the long run. I don't even understand why they would make such rules when similar requirements for the 360 were hardly strictly enforced and quietly dropped over time.

Give me 720p with Forza Horizon's IQ and I'm a happy bunny.

Having said that, 1080p games really do stand out and impress. Rayman Origins comes to mind, albeit 2D gameplay.. the game is so super-crisp and beautiful with not a jaggy in sight. However, I'd usually take 720p @ 60fps over 1080p @ 30fps, for action/racing/platformer type games anyway. At 60fps you don't tend to notice the jaggies as much anyway.

480i/p and 576i didn't go away this (or should I say now last) generation, I very... very much doubt the next xbox or playstation are gonna pull a fullHD minimum. It wouldn't even surprise me they still want to support SD resolutions, as much as it is about time they stop doing so.

Making a requirement for a specific native resolution isn't the same as supporting a resolution. MS can require all games be rendered at 1080p, but the system will still be able to support SD resolutions through scaling.

If anything, I guess one of the possibilities could be they are requiring last gen ports or early gen games to be 1080p. Who knows.

You're thinking the same way that I was thinking when I 1st read it but after thinking about it I realized that he was talking about the Resolution of the game & not the resolution of your TV .

the games will still be playable on a SD TV but they are setting a 1080P standard for the devs making games for the Console.

Durango requiring YOUR display to be 1080p doesn't sound like Durango will require devs to aim at 1080. His words, not mine.

If it's the other way around, good luck with that. Nevertheless, supporting SD resolutions is not just a job for the scaler chip, as long as you want games to be playable and readable, that is. But yeah, could mean a requirement for devs.

'Display Res' not 'Display'

a little confusing but it becomes clearer that he is talking about the display resolution of the games.
