i'll be a lot more up for watching this series if Bob is the teacher of the new kids. (and thus sticks around and bails them out from time to time.)

No dice.

Hefferon said that Bob, hero of the original series, will be a part of the pilot episode and that other beloved favourites, such as Dot and Enzo, will have a role to play as well.

Not what I wanted :-/

Where can I watch ALL Reboot episodes in all its glory before this mess comes out?

I thought I was imagining this? :-/

IIRC, it ended
after Megabyte's return as a Trojan, and him completely taking over the Principal Office/Mainframe (again). Complete with a magnificent monologue about how badass he is and how "the hunt begins" to hunt down Bob and crew.
It was kind of awesome actually, despite not really resolving the series. (Probably just because I'm such a big Tony Jay fan though.)

So basically, you would like it better like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RTe9zgwpOY

Yeah the pre-teen stuff in Cyber Squad was terrible.

So what you're saying is you want to watch the original Japanese version? Because it was a pretty good show from what I've seen of it.

Haha, I feel slightly embarassed, because I should have realized there'd be a Japanese version of it and I never thought to look it up xD

Thanks guys, will check it out!

The Star reports that the show will be ready in late 2016/2017:

“There seems to be a trend to reboot shows…I think it’s going to appeal to kids who are 5 and 6, just because it’s cool and cool characters, and is going to hit that teen and young adult family viewing audience,” said producer Michael Hefferon, President and CEO of Vancouver animation studio Rainmaker Entertainment.

“Kids who watched it are now going to be able to watch it with their own kids,” added Jamie Piekarz, director of content, Corus Kids, whose parent company Corus Entertainment Inc. originally premiered the series on YTV.

time to reboot this thread with new info

plenty of questions but the big one to me
ReBoot was one the first completely computer-animated TV series. But you're taking it in a different direction with the live-action hybrid. What led to that decision?

I know people are getting a little bit caught up in it, and it's interesting because I do read some of the fan boards and stuff. It's not easy to reboot a series. I think probably there have been four attempts [to revive ReBoot]. One thing I was told when I took over as president [of Rainmaker Entertainment] is, "Whatever you do, don't make ReBoot the first project you bring out." I was flat out told that by somebody who's actually a great friend and colleague, too. "Don't make it your first one. Your predecessors have tried to do it. It hasn't worked." Well, you know, I love a challenge. And I listen. For the year before I came up with what the new concept, I talked with people. I talked with broadcasters around the world. The one [resounding] thing — and I hate to break it to the fans — was nobody wanted the reboot of what [the show originally] was. Nobody was willing to buy it.

and there you have it... it's not going to be like the original series because no one would buy it...

they should have gone to kickstarter >.>

This man is the very definition of random. But it's really a good example of corporations wanting to have their cake and eat it too. They need the established IP for brand recognition, but also want the most marketable product possible, leading to garbage like this and 99% of every other brand revival. These situations are a creative failure on every level.

So, yeah, looks like it's game over for ReBoot either way. So sad. The worst part is, fan outrage is exactly what the want - to get people talking about their new thing. But, after this post, I refuse to be a part of it - let this new thing suffocate and fade away in silence.

Never forget: Michael Hefferon - the name of the man who killed ReBoot.

Having randomly decided to watch ReBoot just days before this announcement was made (seriously it's fucking weird how often these coincidences occur in my life) and having just finished season 3 minutes ago... I have no doubt in my mind that this is going to suck.

ReBoot has a particular amount of charm about it that, with a strong reliance on nostalgia for those of us who remember tuning in every week when it first aired, simply can not be reproduced or (please forgive me) ReBooted. Season 1 introduces characters that I love, and I love them unconditionally due purely to nostalgia... But it really is a slog to get through. These episodes are not particularly interesting, at first, but things start to develop in season 2. You can really tell that by the beginning of season 3 the creators just said, "Fuck it. We're going all out". And it was god damn brilliant.

I absolutely loved watching from the middle of season 2 to the end of season 3 just as much, if not more, than when I was a kid. A large part of me feels like this great show ended there and has no business trying to resurface it's charming little sprite head in any way, shape or form than the way it was originally created. But you just can't touch that feeling of OMG shit just got real when (HUGE SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE ORIGINAL REBOOT SERIES)
Bob gets sucked into the web or when Enzo gets his eye slashed out and him, Andrea and Friscuit lose that game. Seriously, as a kid, watching Dot, Mouse and Fong just stare at each other when the game cube disappears and you hear the words, "User Wins" has always been one of those moments that I never forgot. And then when you find out Enzo has become Matrix.... Ah, just so good. Love this show to death, and this reboot can't possibly live up to it, and will most likely poop on everything I loved about the original.

For those of you who haven't watched the original, hear me out...

Trudge through the first season... Yes, it's a slog, but it's only a slog because they are introducing many different characters. Season 2 and 3 get way better and bring back some of those characters that really make it worth the ride. It's a tough show to get though, admittedly, but season 3 really makes it worth your time if you can get that far.

I'm so happy I decided to revisit ReBoot. Those first three seasons really are fantastic, even if it was mostly the last half that made them so great.

The original is truly great, but now I'm wondering, have you not yet watched Daemon Rising, and My Two Bobs?

lmao
Yes, in 2001 there were two movies that made up season 4 of ReBoot.
... But I warn you, finishing them will leave you with a horrible pain upon your soul.
You should definitely watch them though, they're great.

wow, you people saw nothing of the new Reboot and already judge it...

Let people voice their concern. Studios carefully hand pick the information they are giving us. If the information they are giving us sounds kind of crappy because they are cashing in on our beloved established franchise for it's name recognition but has no intention of keeping the same feel and story, we should complain. And sometimes when you complain enough, studios actually listen and give fans what they want.

Shows have been released on home video because fans were loud enough to cry for it. The only reason I have a LEGIT copy of ReBoot on DVD in a complete set is because fans cried loud enough. Complaining gets things done.

Mainframe is a pretty small company. I wouldn't discount the idea that it's executives aren't clearly conveying the quality of the show (especially at this early stage), and that we should look at it before we judge. Especially since people's primary complaint seems to be "it has a live-action element".

They're not cashing in on name recognition. Reboot has absolutely no brand value to today's kids, just to us nostalgic old people, and it's been proven repeatedly that we're not enough to sustain the show. And it's not just our show, it's also theirs. Mainframe has been itching to make more Reboot since the show was running (every time it got knocked off the air, they were hyped to find a way to get it back on). And the original show was never afraid to change the feel and story. The feel and story of Reboot which most people seem to love wasn't even it's original feel and story. Mainframe isn't trying to make a sequel to season 4, they're trying to go back to their season 1 roots and build something new.

And sometimes when you complain enough, studios actually listen and give fans what they want.
That's not going to happen. Mainframe spent decades trying to give people a sequel to season 4, or a retelling of seasons 2&3, and that kind of thing never worked and won't work anytime soon (maybe Kickstarter). They tried something new and it worked and now they have a show coming out. It's real. It's happening. They're not going to cancel it and go back to dreaming about the past.

The reason you didn't have Reboot seasons 1&2 on DVD was because ABC/Disney had the home video rights to seasons 1&2, and after ABC died, assets got moved around, and the rights ended up being sold to a wealthy investor in Europe. Mainframe hunted him down a long time ago and asked to buy their rights back, but he refused. "Not for sale" (even though he barely knew he had them and wasn't particularly interested in owning them, but he simply doesn't sell things that enter the black hole of his collection).

The rights reverted back to Mainframe around 2009/2010, and Mainframe immediately gave Shout Factory a phone call. Fan complaints had no effect. Mainframe wanted Reboot on DVD as much as the fans did.

Okay, so I just finished watching season 4. And... Holy fuck.

And I thought Hex was my favorite character. Daemon was amazing

And when SPOILERS, HUGE FUCKING SPOILERS
we found out that New Bob was actually Megabyte I literally said out loud "Oh my fucking God" about 17 times. Damn, such a good show, totally worth a watch even if it was never resolved. Thank you for pointing this out to me. God..... Anhhhhhh fuck you were so right, I'm so pissed now. FUCK!!!!! Why didn't they finish ReBoot!?

Why didn't they finish ReBoot!?

Mainframe couldn't afford it. Seasons 1&2 were basically funded by ABC (YTV in Canada also co-funded the show, but they're much smaller). Then Disney bought ABC and they canned Reboot.

Mainframe used their own money (and YTV's gleeful contribution) to make season 3, and then shopped it around on the syndication market (meaning it was a "free market" show and any TV station in any city in America could buy it to fill whatever gaps they wanted in the content given to them by their network overlords), which can be good or bad. Baywatch and Hercules/Xena really thrived in this environment. Reboot obviously didn't.

Mainframe had to use their own money again to make season 4, but by this point Mainframe was less successful and was running out of money. They decided to make season 4 as a trio of direct-to-video movies broken up into episodes for the TV stations, that way they could try and get some home-video money (because they really needed money), but then they ran out of money after making two of the three movies.
