Rebuilding an Original Xbox Collection- Recommendations GAF!

I found some old Xbox games I've had in storage from years ago- Silent Hill 2 Restless Dreams, Silent Hill 4 The Room, The Suffering: Ties that Bind and Max Payne 2. I got to thinking about how I did enjoy the system a lot before Microsoft just went and pulled the plug on it.

I'd love for you guys to recommend me some awesome games to try and find at trade centers, ebay etc. I'm not picky on any genre although I avoid fighters, so far I have in mind:

Rallisport Challenge 1/2
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (It really was THE system to get for Star Wars games, and frankly still is)
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2
Jet Set Radio Future (Wish I had never got rid of my copy)
Splinter Cell 1/Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory

Panzer Dragoon Orta
Phantom Dust
Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
Psychonauts

A few of my favorites in addition to a couple of the ones already in your list.

Do you want games that are only on the Xbox, Console only Xbox, ect?

I suppose it doesn't matter as I have always had a PS2 to play, were there any that were vastly superior on the Xbox compared to the PS2? The only multiplatform games I remember buying on the Xbox were the Prince of Persia series

Yep, I don't remember ever buying the ones I found in storage =O

I liked the system back in the day, but the list really narrows down when you limit it to exclusives. Anyways, you should get Shenmue 2 since it's the only way to play it short of importing the Dreamcast version.

Try and grab a lot of the Sega stuff. Most of it still holds up well, and isn't something tied to live to be good. IE...

Panzer Dragoon Orta
Jet Set Radio Future
GunValkyrie
Otogi

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Jade Empire
Galleon
Stubbs the Zombie

Stop recommending Phantom Dust now that you can't play it online.

Anyways, Hunter The Reckoning is a fun game if you've got friends who will come over and play.

Ninja Gaiden: Black
Blinx (YOU HAVE TO)
Breakdown
Steel Battalion

Avoid Knights of The Old Republic if you have a decent computer.

Stubbs the Zombie is worth your time.

Oh my God, I cannot believe I've forgotten about this and Shenmue 2 ><

I think I might pick up MVP Baseball 2005 since outside the PS3 it's the best baseball game.

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Armed & Dangerous

Side note while I know most will say just go buy cheap shit on ebay or at GS....

I DO wish we got more Xbox games on live to download, and they weren't 15 bucks a pop. 10 bucks and you got me MS if you rerelease all of the Sega published shit!

They've been having some on sale lately as part of those big publisher sales. GTA San Andreas and Max Payne 1&2 are $7.50 a pop at the moment.

All very awesome, but broken up by relative levels of awesomeness:

***Phantom Dust: An absolute must if you're at all a fan of CCG-style customization, or just unique arena-style action games in general.
***Deathrow: The most fun fake-sport sports game ever. Hilarious fun in 4-player (better yet, 8-player over system link) mode, and there's a button that makes you swear at the other team.
***Panzer Dragoon Orta: Just one of the best rail shooters ever made.
***Otogi: Myth of Demons: A really awesome over-the-top action game loosely inspired by Japanese folklore, with some pretty awesome customization/advancement on top of that.
**Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders: On the surface, kind of a Dynasty Warriors style game, but with orders of magnitude more depth and strategy; one of the only two console RTS games that have been any good.
**Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes: More of the above; the second of the only two console RTS games that have been any good.
**GunValkyrie: If you like games about being acrobatic as hell and shooting for high scores, you won't do better than this; on the downside, the controls will blister your hands, and the aiming is stuck with an inverted Y-axis.
**Breakdown : A first-person brawler, where you'll start the game just punching and kicking dudes, and then by the end be shooting fireballs and doing all sorts of Dragonball shit.
*Phantom Crash: Awesome mech/arena game with tons of customization, an awesome soundtrack, and an insane story; would be higher on the list if S.L.A.I, it's PS2 sequel, wasn't an improvement on the original.
*Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge: Arcade-style dogfight game. It's not super remarkable, but it's a lot of good fun.
*Otogi 2: Sadly not as good as the original, but still really fun to play.
*Steel Battalion: Kind of a joke entry; you probably wouldn't be able to find a copy unless you specifically go hunting online for one. Still: Awesome.

There was a mech game (NOT STEEL BATTALION) on the XBOX I remember enjoying... Anyone remember it? The hell was the name... :/

Edit: Phantom Crash! Person above me reminded me.

It's still worth playing offline since there's still nothing else like it.
Ew, no. The game doesn't get good until you're playing inspired opponents and not AI that has standard decks that have no play style other than attack.

In fact, the single player is the worst part about the game since you had to go through the entire thing just to get all the cards available for multiplayer. You can't even earn the online rares! Phenomenal game but completely useless without online play.

Obvious choice is Halo 1 and Halo 2. You also need Black and definitely Crimson Skies. Oh how I wish that would have received a sequel. :(

Oh and KOTOR 1 and 2, throw in CoD: Big Red One also, it was actually my favorite CoD game.

Can't believe it took 19 replies for someone to mention this game.

Thief: Deadly Shadows
Breakdown
Forza Motorsport
Oddworld Munch's Odyssey
Project Gotham Racing
Outrun
Amped
Chronicles of Ridick
Deathrow
Darkwatch

Phantom Dust was tied with GunValkyrie for my favourite Xbox game long before I had an Xbox Live subscription. It's a lot of fun even if the AI is way more predictable than a live player, and the between-mission stuff has a pretty cool atmosphere and a pretty okay video game story.

Plus there's always System Link and tunneling software, which is just as good as XBL was considering that you couldn't really find games on XBL unless you collaborated with someone else outside of the game to set up a match anyway.

Also forgot to mention Conflict Desert Storm 1 and Conflict Desert Storm 2. Easily two of the best 4 player split-screen games ever to be released. Seriously, if you have 3 of your buddies over, the 4 player split-screen is a complete blast by far.

Yeah we need more games on the list too though. While it's easy to find a copy of Halo 2 or say some old copy of Madden it's harder to find a game like say GunValkyrie. Putting it up on live would be a big deal since some of that shit like Panzer is hard to find without going out of your way to buy a used copy online that might not be in the best of shape.

Hell I'd love to go get some older games to play on my 360 from say GS, but I know most people treat their games like shit.

If you have wads of cash to burn, pick up Metal Wolf Choas, a Japanese only Mech game made by From Software, in which you play as the President of the Untidied States taking back freedom for America using a Mech from the Evil Vice President who did a coup de grâce.

Oh shit, I remember there being a demo of it in the OXM and loving it. It never made it statewide eh? Of course not -_-

Were there any RPGs outside of the KOTOR and Fable? Just Morrowind and Jade Empire is all I remember.

Etat. Coup d'etat.

Call of Cthulhu
Fatal Frame 1&2
Genma Onimusha
Gunvalkyrie
Jade Empire
Kotor 1&2
(Sid Meier's) Pirates!
Oddworld Stranger's Wrath
Outrun 2
Project Gotham 1&2
Splinter Cell games
Tenchu Return To Darkness
Thief Deadly Shadows

Just make sure you get the first game with the cover above and not Chaos Bleeds unless you lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve the first one and can't live without something similar.

I have very fond memories of the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer game.

This. No Chaos Bleeds. This along with the Indy game that's built on the same engine. SoGood.gif

Halo
Halo 2
Ninja Gaiden: Black
Rallisport Challenge
Rallisport Challenge 2
Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding
Project Gotham Racing 1/2 (either/or)
Splinter Cell series
Prince of Persia series
Jet Set Radio: Future
Shenmue 2
Phantom Dust
Marvel vs Capcom 2 (plays/looks better than the PS2 port, but doesn't hold a candle to DC)
Max Payne 1
Max Payne 2
Forza Motorsport (though with the car club/XBL features gone this is pretty neutered)
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (still the best looking game on the system for 2004)
Grand Theft Auto trilogy (custom soundtracks and non-shit blur/pixel filter... on my console release? GTFO of here with that crazy shit, Rockstar!)

Were there any RPGs outside of the KOTOR and Fable? Just Morrowind and Jade Empire is all I remember.

Sudiki or whatever, otherwise LOL NO. X-box was death for the JRPG fans and even worse for WRPG fans (only Morrowind and KotOR being the worthwhile WRPG's on the system)

Ooooh, wait: "The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age." I bought this about two years ago (good luck finding it now, you can probably find the PS2 version in Gamestops though) but haven't been assed to replug in the X-box and actually start it since I'm busy/lazily going through Arc the Lad 1. Shit. >_< That's a "JRPG"/WRPG mish-mash in the style of FFX somewhat.

I played Sudeki........it was okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, i liked the wonky cartoon graphics. The world looked better than the characters though...they were just downright creepy.

Shenmue 2
Phantom Dust
Jet Set Radio Future
Halo games

Those are the main things I remember for my Xbox that aren't multiplats. Well, Halo kinda is, but...

On a sort of related note, does anyone know how to break the region-encoding on an original Xbox? I've got a copy of Metal Wolf Chaos that I want to play, and I'm not sure what the best way to go about that is.

Everything else I'd recommend has already been posted, so I'm just going to say Syberia and Syberia II. They're on PC too, and probably better for it, but I still enjoyed playing them on my Xbox.

I kind of want to pick up some games that are just superior on the Xbox versus the PS2. Might get the GTA games, although i do have SA on XBL. Like Red Dead Revolver and NFS Underground 2 and Hot Pursuit 2.

I did like DOOM 3 on the xbox as well. I'd like to find another Stranger's Wrath copy to get ready for the PSN release.

DEATHROW!!!!

BC with xbox360, widescreen too
tight gameplay once you get over the learning curve, the voice work is HILARIOUS too.

control + F
tony hawk - not found

F U gaf.

Tony hawks pro skateboarding 2x Best version ever. Running smoothly, all tony hawks 1&2 levels.

Also watch out for KOTOR 2. IIRC it had a breaking game bug in the first hour of the game. No idea what triggered it but I remember it being a chore at the time and having to do something extra to make it work like getting a save the was over that point.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Yes. Awesome game that got no hype at all.
