Recommend me some Zelda-esque adventures on PC

I thought "this looks interesting, let's check it out on Steam". After perusing the store page I was even more intrigued and looking for the wishlist button which seemed strangely absent... Ittle Dew is already in your Steam library.

#bundles

Ittle Dew is great. A charming, funny, clever little 3-ish hour adventure with absolutely no fat or padding on its bones. I recommend it to anyone interested in a Zelda style action adventure.

Ittle Dew is a wonderful little game, and is also funny. It can be mainline in only 3 hours but you can go back and beat the puzzles in different ways with new equipment.

Plus, each enemy is great.

Rack & Ruin is a pretty decent Zelda-like too.

But really, Dark Souls is your best bet to scratch the adventure itch if you still haven't played it.

Just a warning OP, Darksiders is really more like God of War than Zelda. I still don't understand why people compare the two. Also, Okami is boring as shit. There, I said it. Probably the biggest disappointment for me in the last decade or however long ago it was that it came out.

On the other hand, Beyond Good and Evil is an EXCELLENT suggestion and I highly recommend it. Oceanhorn is also a good suggestion.

Hm, interesting suggestion. Indeed heard only awesome things about BG&E.

yo wut you haven't played Beyond Good and Evil?! One of the most unique and varied worlds and some of the best characters in a game!

ittle dew looks hilarious, never seen it before.

oceeanhorn, souls. souls is like a more hardcore zelda with less wimsy i'd say. oceanhorn is kinda a straight up clone but it is good and pretty/colorful. bg&e pc port is shit ill second that, maybe emulate the cube version if you can.

What you want is Dink Smallwood

There were several indie-developed Zelda style games released in the 90's. Wish I could remember the names of more of them.

An oldie, but I still think Landstalker for Sega Genesis is one of the best Zelda-esque games out there. The isometric perspective makes everything seem really solid and fun to explore, and there are lots of cool puzzles and secrets to find. The world feels unique and has some memorable towns and dungeons. It holds up pretty darn well today IMO. Can be had on Steam for $3.

Ops. What's so bad about it?

Been awhile but first off it is form the PS2 era so controller compatibility is not really there and BG&E didn't translate all that well to a mouse and keyboard. Also I remember having a lot of graphical glitches when I played it.

The Ys games and Dark Souls games are what Zelda would be today if Nintendo had focused on combat more than puzzle solving as the series grew. Both are top-of-the-line series, and come highly recommended by almost all who play them.

This. And Dark Souls I and II of course. Not story heavy, but then neither is Zelda. And they certainly have remarkable levels and locations. Not very platforming oriented though, so Ys games, particularly the 3D ones, might be closer to what you want.

Also seconding some Genesis games such as Beyond Oasis and Landstalker. They're similar to classic Zelda games, with actual platforming, they're dirt cheap, and they're amazing. Story-wise they're all right, on par or even slightly better than Zelda IMO.

Came in to say this. As a massive Zelda fan, this is a really solid answer.

Dark Souls is the epitome of what the Zelda series could become if it was more mature and with much more discrete storytelling.

I don't want to be that guy, but what about Dark Souls?

I'm a huge Zelda fan and Dark Souls gets a +1 from me. Amazing combat and sense of exploration.

Rack & Ruin is a pretty decent Zelda-like too.

So, maybe this is a better thread to discuss this than the animations thread a few weeks ago: But, without having played the Souls games, in what way do they play like Zelda? Looking at videos, I only see slow combat full of memorisation requirements, no puzzles whatsoever and a different game structure to top it off. I'm a huge Zelda fan, but looking at videos of Souls games I can only think "eeeeeeew, that looks awful".

Arkham Asylum and City kinda have this feeling. Semi open world, progressive acquisition of gear which allows you to to previously inaccessible areas, etc. Onviously as many differences as there similarities, but you might like them.

This is all true. I'd do a lot for a proper compatibility patch + controller support. Even those rereleases on PS3 and 360 aren't very good, what with the borked controller invert settings.

But yeah, BG&E is the best Zelda clone we've ever had.

It's a very different settings and gameplay mechanics, but Outcast is probably the best PC Action/Adventure game ever made.

I back up everyone's suggestion for Oceanhorn. You would swear you're playing a Legend of Zelda game from the getgo.

(P.S. This is my first ever post!)

The souls game are really great but they are really nothing like Zelda I have no idea why people keep recommending them as such

Subscribing to this thread for the couple sick looking games I've never seen before.

My recommendations? Ittle Dew and Beyond Good and Evil.

Alice. Madness Returns.

I know its more of a platformer, but it does have the z-targeting and is a really good game.

Maybe a bit too long.

They don't play like Zelda. The open-ended design of the map and lack of obvious signposting just evokes memories of the original Zelda.

*snip*

Darksiders is extremely similar to 3d Zelda games overall. The dungeons (the meat of the game) work almost exactly like Zelda, with puzzle based progression, dungeon items, maps, boss keys, and so on. What exactly makes it more like God of War than Zelda? The combo system?

It's mentioned up thread by I felt I should get another vote in Evoland 2.

The first game is much more about the upgrading gimmick, but Evoland 2 is Chrono Trigger but Zelda-fied; lots of time travel puzzles and an overall very similar vibe. I haven't finished it yet - got stuck in a long chain of quests near the end of the game - but not only is it super Zelda-esque but also chucks a whole load of other genres in there.

Very much worth your time!
