Recommend PS2 games for young (6) gamer!

My 6-year old nephew is OBSESSED with getting PS2. So it looks like he might get one for Xmas. My brother is apparently buying him Guitar Hero. I've got him and his sister some other stuff but would like to get him a REALLY good, age-appropriate game for PS2 as well. His favorite games are the Lego Star Wars games on X-Box (he's a SW freak). I thought maybe Katamari but I dunno if that might be a little too much for him.

I've never owned a PS2, though I've played many of its best games. Nothing super-oriented for kids though. So please PS2 owners of GAF, help me pick a GREAT game for my nephew for Xmas!

Thanks!

ICO. Protaganist(s) are childeren, Pretty paired down control scheme, simply walking around can be a joy. only violence is against ghost type enemies (and the final boss I suppose).

Puzzles might be kind of hard though....

Don't buy a six year old kid ICO. As much as I love the game, he'll get bored. Fast.

What about Katamari? Or do you think the control system is too complex?

I agree with this. Klonoa 2 is quite easy, played on 2D plane (easier to control if that's an issue for him in 3D games) and a great experience overall.

We Love Katamari would be a good choice.

Kids these days are so spoiled.... I played Alex Kidd in Miracle World for 3 straight months when I was 7 and managed to finish it.

I disagree with the Klonoa 2 recommendation, mainly because you'd have to pay over $50 to get a sealed copy (and it isn't kosher to give used games as gifts, imo). The Sly Cooper games are great ideas, but if he's into Star Wars, why not buy him one of the Battlefronts?

ICO, hands down easy winner. I played through it with my niece and that experience is part of why it remains one of my favorite games ever. When you come across a puzzle sit there and ask them what to do, if they don't get it right away, slooooowly start solving the puzzle ("Hmm.. what about this rock?") until it clicks with them and they get all excited, then do what they tell you to do. Seriously it's a fantastic experience playing that game with a kid

OK ill tell you from my own experience.
My little girl (almost 6y) love : Jack & Dexter , Teken , rachet & clank , shrek 2 , Lego star wars: original trilogy , packman , Champions of Norath , BaldorÂ’s gate.
She also play on my XBOX360 :Kameo , Top Spin2 , DOL4 ,And Halo2(really donÂ’t know what a hell she like in that FPS but she always ask me to play with her on coop mode)
I hope I have help you with your question:)
She rally like to play games who have funny character design & good story(princesses , kings , heroes saving the world etc)
She donÂ’t know English language(we are living in region where English is not our speaking language) so I'm there to translate the story for her .And we can play for hours without getting bored. Just to advise you ,there is always discussion about game characters & their role in the game & you will be forced to tell the story maybe 100 times :lol

On gamecube you will find more games suitable for a 6 years old.
Not much I can recommand on PS2, maybe super monkey balls, or puzzle games like Bust A Move

He (his family) has a GameCube and he hates it. All of his friends have PS2s, so that is naturally what he wants. The only game he's really played on Cube is Mario Baseball, which probably explains his frustration.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think I may try to scare up a copy of Rez and Sonic Mega Collection. Hopefully, he'll go for one of them, of not both. I have a sealed Katamari that I got for my brother who has played the game but doesn't have his own copy, but I dunno if my nephew would get into it as much since he gets frustrated easily (he is slightly austistic but brilliant--which is why I think Rez is a great idea). We'll see though. I may give my bro Rez and my nephew Katamari. We'll see what I can procure and how everything goes...

Eye Toy games like Eye Toy Play or something like that is fun for the family otherwise if he likes stuff like wrestling you can get Smackdown vs Raw 2007 which, while not the best Wrestling game, it's the best choice if he likes it.
My godchild loved Hulk Ultimate Destruction game when he played it on my PS2 and I can see why, awsome gameplay+fun destruction.

I doubt you could go wrong with Sly Cooper.

If you're going for Monkey Ball, though, I think the GC versions are superior...that said, if he really hates his GC, I guess the ps2 version wouldn't be at terrible choice, either.

SW Battlefront or Lego SW are also good choices, I think.

Sorry Dragona. :(

I ended up going with Rez and Katamari.

Probably coulda saved a bundle going the sly cooper route; I've met the Sucker Punch guys and they're a good group. I just never played those two games.

Maybe for birthday presents...

Rez seems simple enough and has cool colors and music and is just fun. Katamari just rules period and is cheap and overall I thought better than Sonic.

Anyway, thanks again everyone. I'll definitely keep these suggestions in mind for future purchases for the lil' guy.
