Recommended MP online shooters on PS4?

Brandon F

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Battlefront gave me a taste of a genre I haven't delved into much since the UT/Q3 days of yore, but game is way too shallow to hold my interest.

I really want to play something a bit more involved with greater variety(PS4 only). So Blops3? BF4? Ummm anything out of left field to try?

Love to hear recommendations!

Battlefront 4 + Premium is pretty solid. The unlock system in the game kinda sucks, but overall it's fun and balanced.

Black Ops 3 is a solid game as well. It's CoD, plain and simple.

Rainbow Six Seige is more tactical than both these games, however I've only played the beta. I've heard it has a lack of content.

Not a shooter, but check out Rocket League. Seriously addicting.

The Last of Us Remastered is a great third person shooter. You should give it a go.

I've played 22 hours of BF4 so far and I love it. The game+all DLC are still on sales, great bundle imo.
If you like Battlefront's big map, lot of different vehicles, I think you'll like this.

Destiny has really good pvp, but you are going to have to grind your ass off to get any of the competitively viable guns since they are all locked behind the RNG gate.

BF4 became playable after a year but im not sure if anyone still plays it

Battlefront is solid but not much to it really, and not sure about the player count. DISCLAIMER: i have it on PC where the player count is in 4 digits most of the time, though ive heard its higher on ps4.

Havent played BO3 but my brother has it and said its pretty enjoyable

I heard Destiny's a pretty good game with plenty of variety. PVE, PVP and even Pod Racing.

That pod racing was only a timed event, it's no longer in the game but it will return some day. But i would still recommend Destiny: The taken king edition, from the raids to the new instances there's a fair amount of content to get through and if you want pvp it's pretty fun too.

If you come from UT and Quake and actually liked these games, definitely don't get Blops 3. The hardest challenge in that multiplayer is fighting against the autoaim. It's like the game can't let you miss a bullet so you're not frustrated and don't buy the next yearly 70€ game with the 40€ season pass. I tried it the other day on my brother's Xbox One to see if it had changed a little from the last one I played (MW2) and because of the positive critics and I couldn't last an hour. What a godawful experience, it's like CSGO Playskool edition, the game is more run and gun and "first who sees the enemy wins the gunfight" than it ever was, and that's saying something.

Stay away from it. BF4 is a much better option if you're between those two. Even Plants vs. Zombies GW. If you like third person definitely go for TLOU.

Hardware: Rivals is coming out next week, and it'll be available for free on PS+. Beta to that game was a blast. Plus, there's gonna be free DLC as well.

Lack of a server browser does hold it back though. I like being able to pick and choose between multiplayer matches.

Another game that's currently going through a beta test is David Jaffe's Drawn to Death. Hopefully it'll be out not too long from now.

My personal favorites are Battlefield 4, Black Ops 3(AW is great as well) and The Last of Us.

Battlefield for large scale battles. COD for fast, intense, close quarter action. TLoU for a team based, slower, tactical gameplay.

Not true, any legendary including vendor bought guns are competitive. Crucible does not use light, do gear makes little difference.

You can just use arms day guns too, which are cheap.

The Last Of Us is great.

Destiny is decent. Can be frustrating with the way it's set up to make average players feel powerful (supers), but some of the modes can be a lot of fun (Trials is great, for instance).

BF4 is a very solid shooter if you enjoy the modern warfare approach.

Warframe is ok. A huge grind fest and pretty shallow AI/combat, but it can be fun with friends and the powers and some of the weaponry are fun to spam about. It's also free.

PvZ is a lot of fun if you don't mind the aesthetics and style.

True.

Even in Iron Banner I can "pawn sum newbs" despite having lower light level. Still prefer playing Crucible thanks to no focus on armor stats.

OP: Destiny was pleasant surprise to me. Reminds me of Halo: Reach MP which is not bad.

EDIT: Black Ops 3 is really good too.

Battlefield 4 w/ Premium is still the best MP shooter on PS4. It's pretty cheap, in fact it was on sale for like $18 w/ Premium just a few weeks ago, there are a ton of huge (and small, depending on mode) maps. Multiple classes with specific roles to play, multiple vehicles with roles to play, march larger emphasis on coordination and objectives than other shooters. Accomodates so many playstyles. They've got 64 player Conquest and many smaller game modes like Rush, each mode reworks the map and sometimes they feel pretty different. They have a pure dogfighting mode. A billion weapons and unlocks to progress through. Destruction and evolving environments. Stunning, breathtaking chaos. Actual gunfights. Intense chokepoints. Beautiful environments. All this and DICE is still supporting it, having just released several free maps and a massive rebalancing patch that retunes many things including scoring, which is now pretty buffed up so gaining experience is much quicker - especially with the backlog of XP boosts you'll get from 2 years worth of Premium gold packs. So a new person can catch up pretty quick.

Battlefield 4 Premium Edition on the PSN Store is probably the best MP shooter on PS4 right now. Ever since the last of the five DLC map packs of Premium came out, they have been adding free DLC to the game, including the Night Operations map and a new community-created map, as well as new weapons for you to unlock and use.

With all of its DLC, the game has a ridiculous number of maps, and you won't be locked out of any servers since you'll own all of it. The game still has a massive playerbase considering its age (still about 40,000 people playing it at the time of me posting this) and it looks like Battlefield 5 won't be releasing for some time yet so you can buy the game with the knowledge that it won't be dead soon, something you can't say for CoD games which almost always have 1-year lifespans.

Dont see fascination with TLOU mp though, sp was ace though.
Very team centered third person shooter with Counterstrike influence with a good skill ceiling.

(In addition to incorporating the themes of the SP well, with the scarcity of gear and lethality of weapons.)

R6: seige is your answer.

BF4 is real good too, lots of content with premium.

Battlefront for casual arcade play, looks and performs beautifully.

Destiny has great gameplay/gunplay. Mostly everything else around it leaves a bad taste in my mouth though.

If you like tactical round-based, no-respawn shooters TLoU MP and, more recently, Rainbow Six Siege are great choices. I've enjoyed TLoU for a long time, but I found the game to get stale after playing religiously for a year. Rainbow Six is my new go-to MP shooter from now on. A balanced game (even with all diferent classes/skills) with great depth and team play and no respawns. It requires live communication between team mates and working together to get the ovjective done. It's especially great when you're in games where both teams know what they're doing, it becomes a very cat/mouse-y game with great and memorable scenarios that can take place. It really reminds me of SOCOM. Which is one of the reasons I really like it. The match making performance is currently hit or miss though, but Ubi's aware of it and are working on a fix.

I really enjoyed Killzone Shadowfall as well, but the community is on life support and it was only fun for so long for me personally. I've been planning to get back to it just to get a few games in, but it never really came down to me actually starting the game after putting it down when TLoU came out.

I've played Killzone, Battlefront, Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare, Battlefield 4 and TLOU. Battlefield 4 is the best imo.

Shadow fall is okay, gunplay is nice but the slow movement doesn't really work with the map design and the community is dead. For some reason the way the mp is displayed also gave me headaches.

Dude. If you want slow, tactical, and team oriented gameplay where teamwork actually happens, you HAVE TO get Last of Us.

Totally unique experience, and by far some of my most FAVOURITE gunplay. It's absolutely awesome how you have to aim each shot slowly, and how you run out of ammo often and have to manage that aspect. I love the teamwork in that game, it happens very naturally, barring some instances of dumb teammates.

I intend to buy Rainbow Six Siege too, for similar reasons (team oriented, slow, tactical, tense).

I would avoid Killzone and Destiny. Killzone has such few players that you wont find variety to the playlist, and Destiny is an unbalanced mess. Coming off of Halo's excellent MP balance, Destiny really annoys me.

Black OPs III is the best CoD in years and worth checking out. Some reviewers seemed to be biased based on it being part of a franchise getting updated annually. Imho though it's a polished game that made use of its longer development cycle and is packed with content.
