I believe it depends on what alleles you inherit from your parents. For instance Iam half white, half Indian, but I look more European than my brother who looks more Indian.

Eh, that's kinda the attitude people had around here when I was really young.

Nobody seemed to have issues with whites marrying hispanics or asians, and nobody really had an issue with hispanics (and probably asians) marrying blacks, but going from white to black was pretty frowned upon.

Dunno about Arabians and Indians.

Good news, however I'm still surprised that there's a 14% in this day and age that don't approve. I expected it to be down to 3% or 4% by now.....

I'd bet that 20-30 years from now that number would be almost unanimous, if not outright 100 percent.

And how many of these people approve of random other people doing it, but would gasp if their son/daughter wanted to?

The old farts get a pass, they're not long for this world anyhow. To be honest, I find it disturbing that almost 1 in 10 college grads have a problem with it. I mean you're obviously not totally stupid, yet you either can't think for yourself or come with some very dumb conclusion.

Given the demographics of this country and the numbers above, it looks like Hispanics are the greatest contributor to interracial relationships by far.
 
I am doing my part for the white stats of dudes marrying outside race.

Mainly cause I want a kid with a tan.
 
Interesting subject. Black men and Asian women are always shown to be the two groups most likely to date interracially.

No kidding. Some people are proud of being ignorant though and unfortunately they are often the most opinionated on such subjects.

But that isn't due to racism is it? I thought Koreans and Japanese looked down upon that simply because of growing age gaps in their respective countries.

I don't care about race or anything like that. All women are beautiful and I my preferences are pretty wide ranging.

I was actually dating a Chinese girl for a bit, and her parents got so offended that she was dating a white guy. In front of my face they would tell her to find another Asian. Her dad was like stalkingly watching my every move. It was too much. At first I tried not to let it get to me, but eventually I just let them win cause I didn't need that crap in my life.

Knew a white kid in college. He was dating an East Indian girl. They kept their relationship a secret for 5 years before finally revealing it to her family when they got engaged. Her father disowned her anyway, and she now has no contact with any of them except her brother and sister.
 
I would like to have an interracial marriage. Actually, I would just like to get married in general, but that's another matter. foreveralone.jpg

I have almost exclusively dated South Asian women in the last 6 years, and only once had a parent problem. Even then I think it was more the girl and her fear of her parents then her actual parents. I also know quite a few other Desi's in interracial relationships and none of them have ever had significant problems either. There seems to be a stereotype that there's a huge problem with interracial relationships South Asians, but I think in practice it's blown way out of proportion.

I would believe this on an individual level since I tend to believe that people are attracted to their own race normally.

However, extending it out to family & I'm almost certain it becomes a class thing.

On the census they want you to put down whatever group you associate yourself with. The listed categories are merely the more common ones they expect to see.

<3 that stat. Another 30 or so years for the top end to trickle into their graves and these numbers will be much better.
 
Factoid: The USA public rejected interracial marriage at a higher percentage back when then bans were ruled unconstitutional than the percentage that reject gay marriage today.

I was floored that it only reached majority support in 1997. Within my lifetime, a majority of Americans opposed interracial marriage.

Crazy to think that it sped up so much, too. Looks like half of the movement on the issue from the sixties until today took place in the last decade. Hopefully the accerlerative trend continues.
 
That's kind of interesting that less Asians are marrying outside of their race, from that infograph above.

Come to think of it, that trend should've been very obvious since there were a lot of asian-other ethnic couples during the 70s and 80s, but not so much anymore. I wonder why?

I got confused by this since 1983 was mentioned as well. I can't see the graphs, so were there that many that was neutral to it?
