Rectify Season 2 |OT| The Acclaimed Drama Returns - Thursdays 9/8c

I felt that way for the earlier episodes this season. Some scenes had this suspenseful, uneasy atmosphere that felt totally out of place.

The episode where Daniel tears apart the kitchen has out of place music all over the episode. I wish they could go back and replace it so it doesn't ruin the episode while I'm rewatching it.

New episode today:
Season 2: episode 9 "Until You're Blue"

Recent events frustrate Ted Jr., while Ted Sr. attempts to protect the family. Also, Daniel is faced with a tough decision; and Amantha tries to sort some things out and lets off some steam.

Pretty good episode, though I agree with the AV Club review in that the fight scene between Tawney and Ted Jr. felt a little too tawdry and melodramatic for something like Rectify.

I really liked the scene between Amantha and Janet near the beginning of the episode. The way Amantha presented her frustration to her mom was really eloquent.

Probably the least good episode so far (which is not to say bad).

The scene between Tawney and Ted Jr. felt rushed through the goal, with its outcome feeling unearned to some extent and overly melodramatic.

The cold open was absolutely ridiculous with that corny horror music of Ted Sr. watching Daniel from the window.

But it did have some good moments, like Janet and Amantha, or even Teddy going a bit nuts with the asshole at the end.

I hope Ted Sr. won't be an hypocrite and confront Daniel and the family about what he (thinks he) knows, before doing anything stupid, since he rebuked the sheriff about doing exactly that.

Also, the plea deal doesn't sound too bad to be quite honest.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to sell the house and auto shop, and start over in another state, given that living in that community would be a very toxic experience anyhow.
and none of them have particularly brilliant careers.

This show destroys me.

Fucking destroys me.

I honestly don't know how you can handle a breakup in an incredibly fucked-up relationship like Ted and Tawney's better than they did in this ep. Devastatingly good performances from both Clemens and Clayne Crawford.

It irritates me when people throw around the term "soapy" the way Erik Adams did in his review. I don't know how that scene comes across as something you'd see in a soap opera.

When i watch Masters of Sex sometimes i feel like calling it a bit soapy. :P

I think that soap operas have become so culturally irrelevant that a lot of us have forgotten how shitty they truly are.

Honestly, I just don't like it when people throw it around casually in criticism because I think they underestimate how damning of a criticism it really is.

I agree with most of this, though I'm not sure if I think it's the worst, though I can't think of what would be offhand. I thought the Ted and Tawney scene was fine personally. Had a huge sense of dread during the whole thing. I really enjoyed the Amantha and Janet scene. That was pretty perfect.

I think the Ted and Tawney scene was fine but the music was really inappropriate. It was like it was scored as if Teddy was about to murder her. lol

other than though, that episode was brutal. Everything is falling apart and it's just heartbreaking.

yeah the score on this show can sometimes lay the melodrama on a bit thick

still great tho

Agreed completely. The scene in the hotel with Tawney and Daniel felt rushed and unearned and the scenes leading up to it felt too over the top for this show. I don't know.

The cold open was absolutely ridiculous with that corny horror music of Ted Sr. watching Daniel from the window.

That was so weird.

I thought the music was just an analogue for the viewer about how something as simple as that can change your perception of a scene, just like hearing an awful thing about Daniel can change Ted's perception.

I do agree that the Tawney/Ted fight seemed rushed to a conclusion, but that the scene itself was wonderfully acted.

I also lost it at the Amantha letter.

They've turned Teddy Jr into a sympathetic character incredibly well. They haven't swung the needle in the opposite direction - he's still an ass - but he's changed from a controlling character into a victim of circumstance. He certainly made it harder on himself and Tawney with his headstrong attitude but everything he said to her in the bedroom was true - he's powerless when she feels that way about Daniel.

It's going to be interesting to see what Teddy does now that his marriage with Tawney is basically done.

His masculinity issues might still prevent him from pressing charges against Daniel, but with his personal life spiraling out of control, he might not be as worried about bringing down the entire family anymore.

RENEWED!!!!!!!!! LIFE IS WORTH LIVING

I think they could even close it on a third season, 4th tops.
I wouldn't mind a compact TVShow for once.

Aww yissssss.

- Deadline: SundanceTV Renews ‘Rectify’ For Third Season
Like Mad Men for AMC, the first home-grown drama series for sibling SundanceTV is proving to be a keeper. The cable network has renewed its first wholly owned original scripted series Rectify for a third season to air in 2015. I hear the order likely will be for 6 episodes, matching the size of the series’ first season. Rectify‘s second season wraps its 10-episode run on Thursday. “Rectify has evolved into a show much loved by critics and fans,” SundanceTV President Sarah Barnett said. “As SundanceTV’s first scripted series, it’s gratifying to see such distinctive and unusual storytelling embraced with such passion.”
Huh, 6 episodes.

I agree. Obviously, I have no idea where they're going with this, but I think a 3 (4, maybe, if it was also only 6 episodes) season run would be perfect for this show.

Aww only 6 episodes?

The show doesn't need a whole lot of episodes to fill, but I still want more. Guess it's always better to leave you wanting more though.

lol

smh.

But then again, some people hated Breaking Bad's FLY, just beacuse "the plot isn't moving!!!"

Anyway, i was thinking that they have that lady from the art gallery to bring back, and with the possibility of Daniel having to leave Georgia, could the series expand beyond the Hanna mystery?

It was hard to watch when Daniel couldn't muster the courage to tell Janet about his banishment dilemma.

That was nothing compared to the fight between Tawney and Ted Jr.. I know times are tough for him, but man, that was absolutely devastating.

Glad it's been renewed for a third season! I can see it ending on the next one. But if they think they have more material for a fourth one, then by all means, please proceed!

Season finale today:
Season 2: episode 10 "Unhinged"

Daniel has a problem accepting Jon Stern's advice, while Tawney rethinks her options. Also, Ted, Jr. seeks a favor; and Amantha comes clean to Jon Stern.
