Man, rewatching that RDR trailer brings back memories. It really had a completely different tone and atmosphere than any Rockstar game before. That music, those landscapes, the narration

And wasn't it the first of their trailers where they had a narrator talking about the game's features? I don't recall them doing it before that.

RDRedemption is literally the only open world rockstar game that I've played to the end credits. I've bought and played all the GTA games but I always lose interest somewhere along the way.

Can't wait!

I've always hated that when you kill another player, even in self defense they immediately just spawn nearby again. Just and endless deatmatch in open world. I always wanted more of the ability to hold a location or have a defined Victor when you clashed with other people or group. Like I don't want them to just spawn randomly around me somewhere in a circle so we just keep pot shooting eachother. If I kill you you should spawn a solid few minutes away. Unless you're in some kind of death match.

This is indeed kinda annoying. I guess you will be able to turn on passive mode (i honestly dont even remember if that was in the first RDR) like in GTA, but then you wont be able to shoot which kinda sucks.
I'm sure the devs will find a way to fix this. Shouldn't be that hard.

You guys are crazy if you think this is releasing with Scorpio in Fall 2017, maybe Fall 18 for a double dip, but no way in hell they are going to spend resources on a new machine... A la PS4 GTAV A year later... PC wI think Scorpio Fall 18, to maximize sales...

PS4/Xone Fall 17
PC, Scorpio Fall 18

If Microsoft could get exclusive marketing rights, good lord it would do wonders for advertising the Scorpio...

But judging from Playstation's twitter banner, I doubt this!

Aren't all games releasing after November or whatever forced to support PS4 Pro as a mandatory requirement? Or was that bogus?

Edit: realized you didn't even mention PS4 Pro :lol

I just want to see how good Rockstar made this game look on current gen.

Thursday hype

If you played GTAV than in sure you know what to expect. I really doubt they've managed to push the console hardware much beyond that.

It's just different presets. PS4 games will still work on the Pro. It just might not look any better than the standard PS4 RD game.

The more I look at the newest teaser image the more I see Dutch's gang.

Man if they go that route I just hope they somehow get Marston's VA to come back.

Please, please, please don't be a prequel

RDR was set primarily at the end of the Wild West with World War 1 on the loom by the time [RDR SPOILERS]
you play as Jack
, as confirmed by RDR's Wikipedia article:

The game takes place primarily in the year 1911, featuring the final decade of the American Frontier and the cowboy and outlaw archetypes that shaped it. The landscape of the Wild West is beginning to fade and modern technologies like automobiles, machine guns, and oil drilling projects are beginning to appear.

So a sequel would pretty much not be a Western seeing as anything set after RDR would be at the end of the Wild West. A prequel makes the most sense.

Yeah, consumers are stupid, aren't they. I wonder how they even bought so many Red Dead Redemption copies considering that the game wasn't called Red Dead Revolver 2. Can't take such HUGE risk again.

Red Dead Revolver wasn't a hugely successful and popular game frequently cited as one of the best games of all time. Red Dead Redemption was. Red Dead Redemption was effectively the start of a new franchise, though at the time none of us knew it. Now that's clear.

The #1 reason I think this is Marston, other than the fact it looks like him, is that he's facing a different direction. The rest of the gang is looking forward, but John is looking away.

Thematically, this is in line with John's character, who was the first to leave the gang when he set his sights on something else and is heart wasn't in it anymore.

I'm finally catching up on all the hype, and I'll buy that. This actually makes a prequel sound really interesting given Rockstar's depiction of the wild frontier in RDRedemption. All in all, at this particular moment I'm wondering what lessons they've learned about having multiple protagonists. Can't wait for Thursday!

It's got to be a prequel! We got to go earlier, before the Western tales started dying and modernity took over!

That car in Blackwater always felt like a looming end of an era...

That's not how Scorpio works. There'll be no "second version". Rockstar will be building one version that will work across Xbox One and Scorpio. Same as PS4/Pro.

You actually think Redemption became as huge due to Revolver? :D

Speaking for myself (though I assume many people share this opinion)...we know how that story ends. I love Marston as much as the next guy, but there are so many other cool stories you could tell in an old west setting that don't have to revolve around Marston and company. Going back to that well feels like squandered potential and the safest, most boring direction the series could go (especially considering how different and often risky every GTA game has been).

Now I need the remaster, please Rockstar, make it happen!
I really love the idea of a prequel, I need and I want more John Marston, he is one of the best characters ever.
Oh guys, I can't wait for the trailer, a leak, or something daaaaaaamn!!!!

I too do not want a prequel. I don't want any relation to any characters from the first game. Ideally the game will be set at a time decades before the events of the first game and thus be a completely separate story with basically no returning characters. Maybe the odd reference here and there but that's it.

We know how most of the gang's story ends, but going off of that one image floating around we have two unknowns with stories of their own.

Scorpio isn't a new generation. It is just an advanced Xbox One. So in essence Scorpio will be the High/Ultra settings of the Xbox One/PS4 base version. Would be sheer stupidity for Rockstar to avoid a new console launch in the era of front loaded sales and word of mouth.

Think about it. If you're getting a Scorpio for Christmas or at launch and can only afford one game, you would pick RDR2 over pretty much anything else. If they have a PS4/Xbox One and PS4 Pro version being developed, expect a Scorpio one as well.

I don't think Scorpio games will be separate purchases. It will literally just render the same XBOX ONE game at 4x the resolution

If there's no word of a remaster with the trailer on Thursday I think we can close the books on it forever. It'll never happen if not now as some kind of pack-in with RDR2.

Ok but how many of them bought it thinking it was a new IP and not a sequel to revolver? I'm willing to bet the vast majority.

That's what they don't want to risk calling it something other than Redemption 2. When your game sells 20+ million you don't want people to think the sequel is a new IP like they did with Redemption 1 because then you potentially lose a good chunk of the 20M user base you just sold Redemption 1 to.

Again, there is no separate version.

RDR2 will be developed to take advantage of Pro and Scorpio and most likely downscale for OG PS4/Xbox One.

But they'll inevitably still be tied into all the baggage and machinations that lead up to the beginning of Redemption 1 (and based on where Redemption 1 sits, they probably can't have been all that interesting, important or alive or John would have mentioned them/been tasked to kill them). The ur-story is in place. The ur-story has an ending already. For me, those potential deviations and unknown offshoots aren't enough to make up for the majority of the cast having their fates set in stone.
