Red Fly Wii prototypes (Star Wars, Batman: AA, DMC, Dig Dug)

Haha...why is anyone saying Batman looks "good". That looks just awful...like a joke version of the game.

I'd have tried the Star Wars game though.

I havent played it in a few years and I remember a few sections where the camera felt a little wonky, but its one of my favorite platformers from that gen. Really fun Rayman 2 style platforming mixed with cool telekinetic powers and it has an amazing sense of atmosphere and scale. The soundtrack is really good too, no other game sounds quite like it.

Rayman 2 you say? I'll look into this game now

All of the combat stuff is copy pasted from DMC4, outside of the enemies which are based on ones from DMC1. I doubt there's anything there outside of maybe code and some pipeline stuff they could have reused for FU2. Unless that's what you meant.

Yes. I'm referring to backend development tools that they developed for an action game.

Gotcha. I appreciate the clarification. I've never worked professionally with tech or in the entertainment industries and is just a very basic, amateur developer, so there's a lot I don't know still.

Woah, Dig Dug looks awesome!
I would have loved to play that game - looks like the spiritual successor to an N64 game that realized that 2.5D can work. A bit janky, sure - but as a proof of concept it seems to work pretty well..

That prototype is running on a Wii, so we should expect GameCube level graphics. It does look good for what it is.

Well all these protos look good for stuff that was pulled in weeks. That's mighty quick and probably nowhere near as optimized as what an end result might have looked like

Kudos for giving the ol' college try but

Funny that some devs were willing to make games like this but the publishers for these titles simply weren't interested in supporting the effort.

Wii owners would accept their games not looking as good just like they did with Resident Evil and Call of Duty.

I'd be all over that Dig Dug game. Pooka and Fygar look fantastic in this Wii version of America's #1 underground pumping-up game.

A shame it never saw the light of day.

The star wars game looks far worse than the rogue squadron GC games... but more emptier also... DMC looks slow and dante's face reminds me of xenoblade's faces... DigDug seems boring but not that bad and Batman I kinda like it... looks like a more classic Batman with that little texture detail.

I have heard some interesting/hilarious things about these demos. sounds like Red Fly was kind of a mess--and anybody who knew the studio intimately could tell you exactly why, probably in a one-sentence answer.

one thing I heard that was interesting is that this version of Dig Dug was originally going to be a 2D game in which the wire attachment could shoot different kinds of air at enemies, which would make them react in different ways (fire, ice, etc)--and you'd use those to solve environmental puzzles accordingly. might've been a really slick puzzle platformer, but I guess we'll never know.

Yea no shit a quickly thrown together "hey let us make this" prototype looks worse than a finished game made by absolute Nintendo hardware magicians.

It's like people don't read what these videos are or don't think about the fact that these are prototypes...
