Ditto ditto ditto. I still can't get rid of that Dave Navarro stink.

Californication and By The Way are more in tune with how they sound now. BSSM was the apex, and not to say that they are sliding down as they get older, but how can you beat a bad ass album like BSSM. And I'm not just talking about Under the Bridge and Give It Away, there's a whole lot of awesome on that album.

Yeah, it's hard to beat BSSM.

I would contend that Californication has several good spots too though that make it as good as BSSM, (the entire first half of that CD was incredible) but then again, it's all about preference.

Not to say One Hot Minute is bad either. There were some good tracks on there that had some emotional tendencies to them (Tearjerker, My Friends) that made the album worth getting. However, it is easily the worst out of the last five albums.

mother's milk > californication > blood sugar sex magik > by the way

haven't listened to sa yet, will have to do so.

I've listened to this album non-stop since the day it leaked and I now fucking love it. RAWK.

Can't wait to see them in the summer now.

This thread needs more lovin'.

I'll join this thread later, dl-ing this would leave a sour taste in my mouth. Sounds like it's going to rock hard, but I'm not understanding the Californication love here.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' first studio album in four years, Stadium Arcadium, will be released next Tuesday, May 9. Pre-order today and get the album's first single "Dani California" immediately, audio commentary by the band when the album is released, and an entry to win the band's complete catalog and a limited-edition Chili Peppers iPod. Plus, pre-order Stadium Arcadium from iTunes and be eligible to purchase up to four concert tickets from Ticketmaster.com four days before they go on sale to the general public.
got this in my email today. Isn't the audio commentary on the DVD? and isn't that like the whole reason you'd buy the deluxe set over the regular set? So if I order from iTunes, I get the album plus the commentary (which is really the only reason I'd buy the deluxe set) for free. Seems like a no brainer, but am I missing something? (other than the audiophilistines telling me I shouldn't download anything from iTunes and something about a lossy compression codec.)

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is their apex, as Wasabi said. It's just pure fucking awesomeness from beginning to end. Californication falls apart halfway through, even though the first half is all amazing songs. By The Way, is a damn good album all the way through, but it doesn't kick as much ass as BSSM. Stadium Arcadium is really awesome though.

I haven't listened to Mother's Milk and One Hot Minute enough to give a decent opinion on them.

knock on wood we all stay good cause we all live in Hollywood
with Dracula and Darla Hood unspoken words were understood

:D

Not from their new one, but damn is that a great song. Even if it talks about fingering a girl while she's having her period. :lol

...please stop bumping this thread complaining about a lack of fans for the album. It's trite and, honestly, it's not necessary and we all know it.

I agree with the general purpose of bumping the thread: I want people to know about this fantastic album just as much as the next guy. However, at the same time, I think this can be best served by...not doing what you're doing, but rather something less annoying.

The album really is fantastic...I won't attempt to claim I like every song, and I honestly have some serious issues with Dani California being the first single, but this album does what it does extremely well. It is hard to fault Flea for his heartfelt plea when you consider the nature of the album. It is ambitious in its scale, and its scope, and one can only marvel at how different songs stick with you out of 28.

Favourites: Snow, Torture Me, Animal Bar, Stadium Arcadium, Desecration Smile, Made You Feel Better

I'm not listening to preview releases, I can wait. Also, don't worry about how many are posting, that's so TRL... I think I should code in a scroll for NeoGAF.

BSSM had some awesome awesome hits on it, and I can play it through. And I always play Sirpsychosexy too much cause of the awesome porno bass riff. That song always puts me in a good mood, and a hilarious song... BTW, get the DVD covering the making of the album. Pretty damn awesome, and you learn the super awesomeness of Rick Rubin. If you don't know much about RHCP, but want to, this is the DVD to watch first.

As for Californication, I'm on the other side (lol). I don't get how most of the old hardcore fans dislike the album. I can easily play it through, but 1-6 are the best tracks, Other Side (#4) being my favorite. I've driven down to Vegas to that album (and only once should anyone drive 8 hours to Vegas) and Road Trippin' was so so proper.

Also, Californication and By the Way are albums that really feature Frusciante's talent. We all know it's about Flea, but he takes a back seat on both albums, EXCEPT for Parallel Universe. I don't play bass, my best friend does, and he told me how much of a physical achievement that song was.

I haven't heard it enough, but I'm not a huge fan of Dani California. Can't say I dislike it, can't say I like it. So I'm hoping the rest rocks as hard as you guys say it does.

I read an article about RHCP in a magazine with a small interview from John Frusciante and Flea. Flea said around the time they were working on By The Way him and John weren't really seeing eye-to-eye on things and that there was a lot of tension between them. He said he was almost about to quit, however, after the album was released they had a lot of talks and got the air cleaned up and he said he had a lot more fun making Stadium Arcadium.

Just a little conversation piece.

Im obsessed with dani california. Man this song rocks. Its actually the first ever song where the video has made me like the song more. Its quite ironic because I usually cant stand RHCP video's they're just too wierd and when a video is wierd the song is degraded for me, but I love the dani caifornia video, its so fucking cool.

"i gues the tension between flea and john made them create an amazing album that is By the Way"

Ehhhhh, I'd say the tension helped them create the completely sterile album that is By The Way.

Overall great album, listening to it non-stop.

Ah, the irony.

I agree.

I really don't know why RHCP made it the single. It really is one of the weakest songs on the album. Don't worry, it rocks. Not as good as BSSM, but the fact that they came up with 28 good songs, of which most are great, makes it a fucking amazing achievement. And a damn good two hours of music. I'm as cheap and douchebag-ish as it comes when it gets down to actually paying for music, but I'm getting this album on Tuesday.

I love "Snow" (track 2) it's really catchy imo. Guitar solo at the end of Wet Sand is pretty awesome too.

Album arrived earlier today. It's great to finally hear it in full quality. I think it's my favourite Peppers album now. I've been listening to it nonstop since last week and it's great to finally have the CD's in my hands now.
BTW, the photos in the booklet were taken by Gus Van Sant which is pretty cool.

Bud: Flea said they didn't want people to think you had to listen to the discs in order a la Disc 1, Disc 2 or that one was more important than the other. He said they wanted people to listen to each disc as its own "body of music" (or something like that).

"so how can you like californication and not like by the way hmm:?"

Easy. They're (almost) similar in style, but the songs are not the same. I like the songs on Californication and don't care for the songs on By The Way.

"I said that because you laughed or smirked or whatever at his/her opinion. What was the point? You have yours, he/she has theirs."

"ehhh" is laugh or a smirk?
