Reggie Keynote @ Dice Summit (Today)

Really? I find that anything Wright can do Nintendo can do better. Animal Crossing is more fun than The Sims and Spore looks about as fun as watching mold cultures grow.
I enjoy Animal Crossing more than the Sims, but the games really aren't the same. As for Spore, being able to evolve any life form (and have your world populated with other people's creations) sounds great to me, I'm sorry you don't find it interesting.

Animal crossing and the sims are different games, although both so called non-games and certainly in the same genre. I'd branch them under a different subgenre though, since a big part of the appeal in animal crossing comes from your influence on the neighborhood and the variety of things/tasks you can find/do. The sims is more building/creating (ala simcity) and micromanaging a family towards different (non final) goals like building a career or a family.

Will Wright is a creative genius imo, too bad EA has his tail now (sims2 for example was seriously lacking in functions, just because it was made with expansions in mind)

Maybe, probably also the only guy in this thread who's actually been to DICE.

I could be wrong, but I'm just saying DICE is for industry meetings and speeches and socialising and it's a tiny, tiny event with just a couple hundred people and hardly any media, so it's a pretty weird venue to show a new Zelda game trailer. Don't get your hopes up.

am i the only one who is against zelda: twilight princess being positioned as a rev title instead of a gamecube release? i understand the business logic behind it, but tacking on some rev remote functionality to a game that was designed with a standard remote in mind seems... lame.

for the revolution to be a success, they need games from the jump that demonstrate this supposed "revolution". i won't begin to speculate as to what rev remote functionality they have/will build into twilight princess, but if it's a fishing mini-game or the ability to swing the remote in order to swing your sword then i don't see the point. why not wait for the next zelda that can be designed from the ground up to utilize the rev remote?

you've already screwed up one zelda this generation, DO NOT CHEAPEN WHAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE THE GREATEST ZELDA EVER NINTENDO!!!

I get where you're coming from, but I'm going to be playing it on GC, so I don't really care what they do to the Revolution half of the disk (assuming that particular rumor is true).

Not to derail the thread, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I've been working on a new avatar for the past two months and it probably won't be done for another 6 to 8 months. Just know that when you see it, you will say "WOW".

I think Nintendo will use TP to test reactions and posibilities for the next Zelda game. TP will be a regular game, the added Rev functionality can do it worse, since if you don´t like what they added, simply don´t use the aditions. However, if the new aditions aren´t worth, then we will have to wonder whether it was a good the dicison to postpone it from Christmass to whenever they launch it :-/

You know what I think Nintendo just held on to the finished Zelda TP just in case Sony launched the PS3 earlier than anticipated :D

don't believe the need more time BS

Let me save you all some time reading the inevitable transcript that will show up:

1) DS success
2) Blue Ocean
3) New Markets

THE END

Looking at The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Nintendo was clearly in need of extra development time. Twilight Princess should be about ready by now, but they certainly needed all their development time.

Not long now. Anyone with press access you should keep an eye on press.nintendo.com If anything at all interesting is shown it will be put up there ASAP.

i excpect it to hit the main site fairly quickly if it is to.
They said to watch the site at the time of his speech

I believe that all have reason in some form.

Nintendo will release Zelda Twilight Princess for GCN this semester in Japan and US and it is going to be bundled inside the Revolution console pack.

In other words, buy a Revolution at the end of 2006 and you will have Zelda TP adapted to the FreeStyle inside the console pack.

Holy shit Will Wright? I am sorry but screw Reggie...

...
...Aw damn I am in trouble now.

REGGIE WILL EAT YOUR FIRST BORN.

Anyway, this sounds interesting. Any updates? I couldn't care less about Jaffe, he's overrated, but I want to hear Wright. Reggie always has something "neat" to say as well.

Nintendo announced new wireless features for its DS portable video game player Thursday, including a free service that will let consumers beam game demos and other content directly to the device.

Beginning in late March, the company plans to deploy electronic kiosks at thousands of U.S. retailers including Best Buy and GameStop.

Owners of the dual-screen DS who go near the kiosks will automatically receive a notice on their devices offering game demos, movie trailers and other content for temporary download. The information will be erased from the DS once it's turned off.

Nintendo also said it was adding voice chat to the sci-fi action game Metroid Prime: Hunters, available March 20. Players who join up for multiplayer battles over Nintendo's wireless Internet service will be able to talk to each other through the system's built-in microphone before and after games, but not during, said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America Inc.'s executive vice president of sales and marketing.

I'm guessing that the DS CPU simply isn't powerful enough to compress out the audio and render 3d at the same time. Which is too bad.

How bout the ds cant handle voice chat while a game is going on. I hope they release new official DS photos, maybe the other colors.

I suppose that could be the case too. It just seems to me that Nintendo has to cater to the lowest common denominator and treat us "mature" gamers with kids' gloves.

If that was the case, I doubt they would've included voice-chat at all. Real-time audio compression can be pretty CPU intensive, so that just seems more likely to me. It does show that Nintendo isn't totally averse to voice-chat for their online service though, so that bodes well for the Rev.

well, at least there is some DS news. It should be over by now so I guess there won't be any screenshots or anything :|

Yeah but how many times have you been frustrated when teenagers keeps shouting swearwords in your face for the fortieth time in the last 20 seconds.

Its a strange design choice but how is it 'kiddy'?

It was my assumption that Nintendo purposely left it out of in-game portions so the poor little children would be spared from all the naughty words and trash talk their opponents threw at them.

Nintendo is walking the right path. The WiFi-Connection is a great success and it was just a matter of time, untill these features would be boosted up with more bonus for the gamers. I hope they can make the download of demos and other features even more easy. Maybe directly via up-to-date games, etc.

But let's see what the future brings.

concerning the kid-safety in rev games, it would be possible for nintendo to include voice chat only in mature-themed online games like metroid etc. It does bode well for a better lobby area then mariokart's.
