I've put together a very simple, "blind" taste test so to speak. It's obviously not perfect since it's not in motion, but I think it will still get the point across.

As far I am concerned the only aspect of the Wii U that is remotely next-gen is the ability to play most
games entirely on the gamepad.
Everything else about it just screams current-gen to me.

Having said that I am enjoying the system greatly - played it daily since I picked it up
on release day.

Yeah. Generation indicating a period of time has been the accepted convention in the game industry for decades. I don't know why people have such a hard time grasping that.

Just because someone says that the Wii or Wii U are in the same generation as the 360/PS3 or 720/PS4 respectively, doesn't mean they're somehow also saying that all three of those systems are in the same ballpark regarding power.

If you try to argue that a generation is a horsepower jump or "innovation" then you would create a massive clusterfuck. Xbox 360 would be its own generation, then the PS3's Blu-Ray capabilities would be another generation, the Wii's control setup would be another generation, and then the 360's dashboards updates could sometimes even warrant a new "generation".

It's stupid.

I swear I poped in Black Ops 2 and I was really excited because I was expecting it to look the same as if it was maxed out on PC and the first level starts and the first thing that pops into my head is "wtf is this" muddy textures, pixelation, fuzzyness looked like a gamecube game.

The n64 capabilities were close to the Ps1 though just like how the GC-Wii-PS2-Xbox all have very similar specs and capabilities. The Wii U-Xbox 360-Ps3 are a generation in the same way.

NO. When the game started in that first level in Africa I couldn't even tell who the fuck I was supposed to shoot at the graphics looked like shit. It could just be that I had just beaten Halo 4 the day before and had high expectations for good clean graphics and instead I see a mess.

People who say "feigned outrage" are being unfair. The outrage, such as it is, is not "feigned." People on both sides, including those you disagree with, are giving their honest opinion. Frankly, to me it seems like a lot of people in this thread are angry simply because they want something to be angry about or to rile each other up, hence the feigned outrage. There are legitsimate things about the Wii U I think it's fair to be angry and disappointed about (ancient hardware, shitty PS360 ports, undercooked OS, shitty gamepad battery life, hard locks etc.), but Reggie doing what he is paid to do is not one of them IMO.

I'm inclined to agree with Amir0x and his "cold sun" analogy. Unless I'm completely missing something, these screens look identical with the exception of some slight shadow and color differences. I'm interested to see what other people think, but particularly those who are defending Reggie's statements. I've written down the "answers" so have at it. uh yes I did considering Black Ops 2 is using an older engine that was more then likely designed for xbox 360 and the Wii U is new and was supposed to be significantly more powerful than a 360.

When COD 2 came out at xbox 360 launch it was very comparable to a maxed out PC version of the game.

Having played CoD2 on both the 360 and PC, that's not really the case. The 360 version had nice effects, but the image quality and texture filtering was nowhere near the PC version.

That said, it was still pretty close. But that's because the 360 was already powerful relative to PCs at the time.

It had some good games, but I had lots of problems with this era altogether, including PSOne. poor framerates, grotesque visuals, unrefined controls. On N64, there was like no third party games at all and releases were few and far between... and so many of them were just like poor copycats of the few great original Nintendo games.

At least on PS1, though, there was a decent amount of 2D games still, and I could get by on that...

The average framerate is an almost useless statistic, as far as I'm concerned. A wildly unstable framerate can still produce a good looking average.

The problem with CoD on the Wii is that is does indeed suffer from a wildly unstable framerate. Battles constantly bounce back and forth between 60 fps and 30 fps depending on where you're looking and what's happening on screen. The framerate is all over the place and gives the impression of an un-optimized game.

You're missing my point. "Feigned" means "pretend." It means "fake." It does not mean "overreaction." If you think their outrage is real but overstated, then say that, but "feigned" means you think they're lying just to provoke a reaction.

No. If a company does something stupid - or constantly does stupid things - they get called out (Sony with the entire PS3 launch, MS with RROD and "things break", etc). It just so happens that all three companies aren't on the same level of stupid at the same time, so it always focuses more on one than the others usually.
