Reggie Teases, "Big Holiday Game to be revealed at E3"

The Factor 5 game is going to be interesting. All i got to say is that you can't teach an old dog new tricks =P

But sometimes you can add casual spices to his dog food O_o

oh really, Reggie? a big GAME? Wow.

I was hoping there'd be a plural in there somewhere, but good to see Nintendo hamming it up like N64 days.

Oh so Nintendo should provide all the big games for the Wii right? Good to see you think it's still the N64 days...wakeup call, there's this little big thing called THIRD PARTIES

I meant that Nintendo itself should have more than 1 major title to announce at E3, and we shouldn't have to wait until the holidays to play it.

I'm pretty sure they do. Look at the whole interview and it seems pretty clear t o me there is more than 1 game being announced.

I'd really like to see Nintendo take a stab at a franchise designed exclusively around the Wiimote that caters to core gamers.

They've made a lot of money in the last two years so I think it's reasonable for them to take a risk or two now. I realise the whole idea behind the Wii runs counter to this, but Nintendo does have a significant fanbase they would be wise to cater to. And my question is why not attempt to add to this fanbase when spare capital is available?

I wonder why some people doubt Nintendo when they have been very consistent with high quality releases since the DS launch. The first half of 08 is packed with high quality Nintendo titles and some good third party titles, why should we doubt that the secons half is not at least equal or better. The holiday has always been a magnet for high profile big budget games and if last year its anything to go by I think we will have a great second half of 2008.

Even if they do have a Kid Icarus title to announce, which I hope they do, I doubt that's the game Reggie's referring to (surely not an 'expanded audience' title). If that's announced, it'll likely be announced alongside whatever title he's specifically talking about...as will a lot of titles, considering they plan on covering the rest of '08.

Right because that's the only game they're releasing from now until the holidays. ~_~

I would assume safely that Icarus is coming, but I think Wii Sports 2 is my guess as to what will hit first and be announced first.
Wii Sports 2 is not going to happen any time soon.

We need a new Pikmin dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right. We won't get Wii Sports 2 until Nintendo works out online chat. This game will come with a headset. And will start a revolution.

Talks the guy who says meh to a mad max game.......to you i say MEH....:P

I like Mad Max.

The idea of a Mad Max videogame? That is meh, sir. I state historic precedent on this being the case.

Prosecution rests.

I want a new, made for Wii hardcore property. No more of this fan favorites to stave off the frothing manbabies bullshit.

Project Hammer? Disaster?

Disaster doesnt look terrible, but I think they have the wrong idea of what the "hardcore"/"core" audience wants if they think in the lines of those (and Geist to bring up an example from the gamecube) types of games. I would take a new IP if Nintendo can put something out Pikman quality this gen, but I dont think that was made or the hardcore and I hope their mindset isnt appealing to the hardcore with whatever they have in mind. Leave the "hardcore" games to third parties like Suda.

The idea that Fallout 3 would also be comming out around the same time as Mad Max also doesnt really make me that excited.

Care to elaborate? ;)
If you're talking about the movie to game crappiness obviously you are right, but thank god there are exceptions, one being Goldeneye for example, and apparentely barlog will have even better acess to mad max creative minds so i dont know why the pessimism....

The game is probably an action type of game with multiplayer mode, it will have nothing to do with fallout 3 except the likeness of the story maybe......

Because the (quite impressive for a long period) flow of quality DS titles coming out of Nintendo's first party apparatus is drying up, but there hasn't been an accompanying flood of Wii games to make up for it?

Alternate answer: because since E3'06 Nintendo has announced literally zero core game titles that aren't just an update of a game that appeared on the GameCube?

Anyone believing Reggie by this point when he hypes something up deserves the crashing disappointment. The guy's all talk, no walk.

You speak with an experienced tone, mon amie.

Though, more original content would be a pleasant surprise, some geared toward the new generation of Wii owners, and some for the older, long-time gamers.

In the end, I'm greatly anticipating 2nd and 3rd generation titles that have refined the Wii experience, aka Wiimote/waggle/pointer functionality.

Pikmin 3 please. PLEASE.

Or Excite Truck 2.

I'd be pleased with both.

My crazy dream, though, would be Pilotwiings. :D

Or Battalion Wars Wii 2, with same tech but much more content AND a level editor. Although I reckon this will not happen.

They don't have to announce anything until E3 so they're keeping things close to the vest.

They're sitting in the catbird's seat right now with Smash just out and Mario Kart/Wii Fit coming in Q2. That's two of their biggest guns.

The idea that quality games aren't going to come out is pretty absurd. If they didn't have anything for the second half of the year Mario Kart would have been bumped back.

Factor 5 is doing the new Star Fox, aren't they?

Mario PAINTBALL.( mario spinoff that could actually be awesome if done right)

Hopefully Kid Icarus

Probably Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Pikmin, Star Fox, or Donkey Kong.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Retro. They have been quiet, so I expect their game/s to be revealed or announced at E3, though I don't expect them to come out in 2008. As far as I know, NST has been very quiet too, maybe 1080 Snowboarding from them.

Factor 5 should be forced at gunpoint to make a new Pilotwings. Removing any possibility of them making a shooter might force them to innovate a little bit.

Factor 5 working on Duck Hunt?

It's gotta be either Star Fox or Kid Icarus. Right? Tell us.

They had a huge game come out last August. I don't think they are big enough to get a new product out less than a year later. Plus, I assume the game in questions will have widespread appeal (Metroid Prime was a pretty hardcore franchise) and worldwide success (do people outside of America care about Prime?).

We have:

- Probably Animal Crossing (EAD group 2)
- Another EAD Team project (from EAD group 4?)
- Wii Music
- Kirby game of development hell from HAL Labs
- 2009 Twilight Princess Team game (EAD group 3)
- 2009 Retro Studios game?
- New Intelligent Systems game (the 3 IS games for Wii all came out in Japan by Feb 2007)?
- Mario Stadium Baseball (from Namco)
- Disaster: Day of Crisis
- Second Monolith Soft game?
- Fatal Frame IV (Tecmo/Grasshopper Manufacture; Nintendo published)
- NST game
- Anything else they farm out to random devs like Monster Games

That's just the first party stuff. The 2 N-Space games plus the Factor 5 one might be 1st party published too.

Before to speculate like that, maybe we should consider the preconditions: which developers (First or Second Party of Nintendo) have had enough time to present and bring to the market a "big" "hardcore" game for this fall?

a sequel to Pro Wrestling starring STAR MAN

smh @ everyone forgetting Pro Wrestling was a hit on NES

The n-Space games might be cancelled or they've got a new publisher, at least Surfer Girl says so. But you can add the two KUJU London games and what about Fuse Games? Is their Kirby game for DS?

HAL is already working on Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe for the DS as well as the Wii port of SimCity Societies. I don't think they are big enough to also get the untitled Wii Kirby game done by the end of the year.

Personally, I doubt that this Kirby Wii will ever come out someday.

Well, Hideki Konno's teams worked on Wi Fit and Mario Kart so I doubt we will see anything from his group.

Katsuya Eguchi's teams are working on Wii Music and Animal Crossing so we should see those.

Eiji Aonuma's teams have made Zelda TP (2006) and Zelda: PH (2007). Its probably too early to see anything from his groups.

Hiroyuki Kimura's DS team has had enough time to make a new game. Maybe New Super Mario Bros 2? His team did make the first. His Wii team made BBA: Wii Degree. On that team was Shigefumi Hino, director of Pikmin 1 and 2. Since BBA probably didn't take too many resources to make, maybe Kimura's team is working on Pikmin.

Then there is EAD Tokyo with Takeo Shimuzu and Yoshiaki Koizumi. They released Mario Galaxy last year and after the game was released, Koizumi said the team was still deciding what to produce next. Therefore its probably too early to see anything from them.

I'm not too sure about Retro since I'm not positive about their development structure. I think they have about 80 developers but I don't know if they are divided into 2 teams or just 1 big team. If its 1 big team, its probably too early to see anything from them. If they are broken up into a couple teams, maybe 1 team is working on a smaller scale game that could be released towards the end of the year with a larger game from the 2nd team coming next year.

Monolithsoft I believe has 3 teams. 1 team is working on Disaster, the other worked on Soma Bringer, and then there is the 3rd. We could see that the 3rd team has been working on at E3 and it could possibly be released for the 2008 holidays, probably an RPG.

Hal is working on Kirby DS and Kirby Wii. We will probably see those at E3.

NST said HAMMER was put on hold for more mainstream stuff. I think we can see 2 titles from them. Possible a DK WiiWare title (similar to DK 94 on GB), and maybe a snowboarding game that uses the Balance Board.

Genius Sonority worked on Pokemon Battle for Wii and Dragon Quest Swords (also Wii). Those were 2007 games (in Japan). Maybe they are working on a Dragon Quest Swords style game using the Pokemon franchise? Go on an on-rails quest to travel to different towns and arenas to collect, train, and use your Pokemon in combat.

Game Freak- probably working on a new Pokemon game to supplement Pearl/Diamond

Brownie Brown- last release was Heroes of Mana (2007). Maybe we can finally see that GC game of theirs, Gofukku but for the Wii.

Alpha Dream released Mario & Luigi several years ago. We could see something from them, most likely for DS.

IS is releasing Fire Emblem and Advance Wars for DS this year, but that still leaves the Paper Mario team. Maybe we can see something from them. Hopefully a new IP.

Yoshio Sakamoto's SPD team made Card Hero for DS. He could be working on a WiiWare game, hopefully Metroid.

Hitoshi Yamagami's SPD team is making Dr. Mario for WiiWare

Kensuke Tenabe is most likely working with Namco on Mario Baseball and with any 3rd party collaborations involving Nintendo IPs.

Are you sure that they are doing that port? I've never heard of that. Nevertheless, who else should do a big Kirby game that is announced for this year?

Brownie Brown is working on Blue Dragon.

I thought there Wii lineup was pretty strong even though I understand that not everybody would agree with me because of the casual titles. But hasn't Nintendo always been the same in that regard? I can't remember them being very hardcore with any of there games. What also comes to mind is that Nintendo's resources are limited and that if they want to maintain Wii momentum (or increase even further) they will have to take away from the DS. I'm sure they can hire new employees to keep the same level of support for the DS as well but I don't think thats as easy as it seems, talent doesn't come very easily. I think they left it to third parties to carry the system further while they concentrate on selling the Wii. Even then I can't imagine them totally cutting DS support and let it die so early.
