There you have it folks. He confirms in that video that what you see if final WiiU design. "This is WiiU". He could have said "This is HDDVD drive that you forgot you had". Another underpowered console from Nintendo. Maybe that gimmicky controller will make it fun to play, but definitely not for me.

He never said anything about the power.

Joke post?
He said nothing about the power of the system, yet you conclude that it's underpowered.

Based on the size we're assuming its not going to be that powerful. Of course just an assumption, but I would be shocked if they could cram anything more powerful than 360 level hardware into something that size (at a reasonable price point).

Could be another GameCube.

Well, you're probably gonna be shocked then.
Since it's already known that it's more powerful than the 360.

It most certainly is quite a bit more powerful, actually. Also, considering we haven't seen either Microsoft's nor Sony's next generation hardware, the point is moot, anyway. Their systems could be the size of matchboxes and as powerful as two iPads duct taped together for all we know.

Yup. The thing is about the size of a C=64 by the looks of it so 1MHz, 6510, with 64K confirmed. Seriously though, tech has moved on and things get smaller. The power source will likely be an external brick and it doesn't have an HDD inside.

Well, what does that mean? If it has like twice the RAM, that's nice, but it won't really matter that much. The Wii is more powerful than the GameCube, yet you'd be hard pressed to point out differences based on the games graphics - if anything the GameCube had more visual stunners than the Wii.

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet to assume that it has about the same power that a PS3 / X360 has, maybe slightly more powerful. If it can run the latest Call of Duty in 1080p@60fps instead of sub-720p@60fps it'd already be a pretty nice system, especially for the games Nintendo likes to make.

Yeah, you shouldn't do that.

Must....resist....repeating....myself for the 20th time.

I wish all the men, women, and children across the world would wake up tomorrow and understand that modern hardware capabilities aren't linearly tied to simple additions, multiples, and fractions of technology from the past.

I haven't even clicked the link yet, (honestly), but I'd put 5 bucks on Reggie saying the word "candidly" in this interview.

Thank you. It's tied to height, width, and length of the physical console itself.

It's really weird.. all that...
The first unleashing was kinda meh in many regards, and here, 8 month later, they act like nothing changed and they did nothing...

It's like "oh remember we unveiled the most random and forgettable design for a console ever. People didn't even understood if it was just a Wii or something else, well.. here it is, it's the same, there is nothing more to show, be excited now cause the thing is releasing in less than a year!"

This is why I said Nintendo needs to show something that really shows off what it's capable of.
E3 is too damn far away.

There's no point. Nintendo could have shown Kung Fu Panda 2 running in real time with crazy AA at 1080p and 60fps, and these same people would be saying it's not much more powerful than a 360.

This is what's concerning me. I really think Nintendo honestly believes that they're creating buzz by being this secretive.

If anything, after that horrible E3 showing, this silence is making more and more people write them off. And this thing could be as close as 6 months away. The news trickle needs to start...

Nah, they'd try to claim it was actually CGI and would desperately try to prove it no matter how many times they get laughed at.

With the time, the hardware is more powerful and smaller than before, so the size of Wii U doesn't have so much relation of how powerful will be.

No one will care about the design when they actually have 2 or more first party killer apps at launch.

The design is fine, people praised the Wii design and that's not much fancier.

If at all...

Haven't seen it, so how many times did reggie lie this time? Should we write it down for future reference?

It was obvious from the start that Reggie had no intention of revealing any new information and quite frankly, anyone in his shoes would do the same unless they want to risk being penalized or fired by the company. We'll have to wait and see what little news nintendo shares with us in the near future but the interview was just full of typical PR statements.

I disagree. I think the Wii was sleek, minimalist, and an inspired design. The Wii U design is clearly trying to piggyback as cheaply as possible.

And branding is a huge deal in product marketing. This is a lesson Nintendo learned with the Gamecube and original DS.

It's a glossy rectangle.

With sexy sharp curves and a gloss that emphasized the futuristic Tron-like cd slot light. Ugh - STILL love the Wii's design. Perfect example of simple is better.

Better than this long, flat-yet-rounded, plaster of paris looking blob...thing...

Are people really debating WiiU power? It's Nintendo. Expect it to be not quite what you want it to be.

Despite the fact that only the Wii sets a precedent for this...

Holy f**k. Not this again. Wii is an outlier in terms of the power of Nintendo's consoles. Sure, Wii U might not be as powerful as the Nextbox (assuming Microsoft takes the video game industry seriously) or the PS4, but the gap will not be as great as it has been this current gen. Wii U will, however, be the most powerful console for the next couple of years.

Also, it's important to note that the next generation of consoles, in general, will not be as powerful as many would hope for it to be. The jump just will not be as big.

Because of unrealistic expectations and prioritizations.

The thing will be hella-powerful, people just think Nintendo cares(or these people care) how powerful it is relative to the other consoles.

They don't and shouldn't as it will be powerful enough.

If third party developers don't want to make games for the most powerful system Nintendo has ever created, then that's mostly on them.

These developers are running out of excuses not to give Nitnendo another shot.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the design though I don't care much at all about what a system looks like.

The Gamecube was my favorite console design and it's a cube or square.

The size of it was brilliant.

Depends on who you are catering the system to, as always.

Nintendo's all about doing something that differentiates themselves from the "competition" and only this controller and the last one did.

If it was up to them, they probably wouldn't make an HD machine but time dictated that moreso than what they saw as important.
