Sanjuro all about that Black Friday!

Absolutely! I've been on both sides. Worst example are customers displaying their disdain for employees working those days.

I remember working one year on Thanksgiving. Woman came in an felt terrible that they had us working. Unfortunately, I couldn't sell her a Wii on that date. So she called corporate because I was eating Turkey dinner someone brought me on shift.

I am so glad I work somewhere where the place closes pretty early (4 pm) so i can spend the evening with the family and friends. Good on that employer, it's really awful how many people get stuck working terrible hours. I had to do it and don't wish it on anyone (though i admit some people actually do like working it for the extra pay, and that's fine).

I will do all my Black Friday shopping online i think. I got enough line-related disgust snagging my :Lucina/Robin Amiibos earlier this year.

I keep hearing how bad these holidays are to work and last year I worked thanksgiving and black friday at best buy. Not the shit show I thought it would be. People got the stuff they wanted and paid and left. No fights no fun interactions just people trying to get a deal. That said I do almost all my shopping in this season online either amazon or pick up in store later in the week to avoid the nutty people.

Ive worked at target and the holidays were the one time of the year to get hours and even overtime. It's not that bad at all for how shit the job already is the rest of the year.

Will Asuka be open? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

If a store is going to be open I have no issue with allowing people to volunteer to work Black Friday.
Ehh, lets not act like that can even be left open to volunteering now, that'd almost always turn into a handful of volunteers and then the volunteered.

Not that I have an answer for this, I do believe that businesses should get to decide when they open and close but also that society and businesses should try to give their workers off. Like you, Friday I don't really care one way or the other if people get it off but I do think people should have Thanksgiving off if at all possible. But I can't really imagine you'd be able to fully staff a retail store on black friday with volunteers alone.

Nice to see a retailer with deep respect for its employees.

Black Friday going to be Black November before long, with 72 straight hours of doorbusters and sales enslaving a minimum-wage workforce in the name of padding those yearly totals.

Makes me wonder what the conditions are like at fulfillment centers for NewEgg/Amazon/other online retailers in the wake of Cyber Monday

I work in one. Long and Hectic.

Yep, I heard REI is a great company to work for, sent in my resume several times with no calls. Would love to work for them or Costco one day.

I would love to support them. Sadly the only thing remotely outdoor I do is run and cycle; for that I can go to one of my small neighborhood bike shops.

Still I was looking for a wall mounted bike rack and some hefty gloves for this upcoming winter!

They've got really nice wool socks and such. Good for winter regardless.

Good for them. My girlfriend works in retail and last year everyone had to work 12 hour shifts on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I have to work because I work at an alarm monitoring company. It starting to feel like holidays are only for rich people, those with office jobs and government employees.

Last 2 years I have made my best deals shopping online in the 7-10 days prior to Black Friday. I basically went out on Friday just to feel the shopping spirit only.

BF has been legitimately expended into Black Week.

they regularly have attic sales

I buy a lot of second hand camping stuff anyway though--you rarely find hobbyist that take care of their goods like outdoorsmen/women

REI is consistently listed as one of the top companies to work for, and they are a great shop for outdoor sports. Customer service is the best in retail.

Things like this just make me love them more.

In the few occasions I had to deal with them, their customer service was abysmal. Right up there with AT&T or Comcast.

I've never shopped during the black friday rush and I feel bad for all the people who have to work ridiculous hours, so this is fine by me. If you ask me, close all the stores and do an online only sale. Make it a week long "cyber monday."

As someone who just started working at REI, I can't wait to go stand in line at Best Buy on Black Friday.

BTW we're closed on Thanksgiving too and we're getting BF as a paid day off!

good stuff. on principle I won't go to stores on thanksgiving or black friday because I don't agree with the employees having to work those days. but then I have friends who actually like working black friday because they get some extra money

this seems like the best of both worlds

Good. I've never been a fan of Black Friday, and I'm especially annoyed by the encroachment of those sales on a holiday that employees should be spending with their families. I doubt that few - if any - other companies will ever follow suit, but at least someone's willing to draw the line and put the well-being of their employees first.

I didn't have a problem with Black Friday until it turned into "Black Thanksgiving Weekend".

Places started opening at midnight on Thursday, which creeped into "Open at 6PM on Thanksgiving" and now Thanksgiving is just an extension of Black Friday rather than a day to spend time with family and eat food.

When I worked retail, I enjoyed black Friday. I offered to work the early shift, got off at 1, and it was so busy the day went by super fast. I don't think black Friday is too terrible.

Places that open on thanksgiving: THAT is shitty.

Ha, I don't even work retail and I don't have Black Friday off. I take it off every year to go shopping. I don't see the point to this, Thanksgiving is the day to give people off. That's the day people spend with their family. Black Friday is just a normal day that was used to promote Christmas shopping. I enjoy shopping for Black Friday and as long as employees are safe, don't really feel bad for employees who work that day. It's more money for them and deals for everyone else. A win-win.

Seems like an over-reaction. Just open the store on a normal business schedule and that is good enough. It's not an actual holiday anyway.
