Seriously, this would have a huge impact on carbon emissions given we're talking about hundreds of millions of game consoles and pcs. Turn that shit off if you aren't using it.
Convenience is less important than complete melt of the northern ice cap within 20-30 years. Yes I know we're probably past the tipping point but that doesn't mean fuck it and let's burn it all down.
Yes there are other more impactful things you can do but this is a video game forum.
Edit: those off the grid with their own solar and geothermal can obviously largely ignore this thread. Or those of you in countries with majority nuclear and renewable grids. However, less demand for energy is always a good thing, as building turbines and solar panels aren't exactly carbon neutral.
Ps4 uses 10 watts standby and Xbox one 12.9

Pcs will be much worse idling, especially gaming rigs. Beyond that people just leave their consoles running and not even rest mode all the time as evidenced thread.
100s of millions of consoles and pcs we are talking gigawatts here.

Coal is 33% and natural gas is also 33% (natural gas also pretty bad) in the US. China also burns a shot ton of coal. Even hydro emits a ton of methane from the backed up lakes algae. It takes a lot of carbon to build turbines, solar panels, and nuke plants as well. In general, globally, energy produces carbon emissions.
