Same here. I thought the scanning added more to the game than cutscenes could ever do. Instead of sitting throught five minute cutscenes, the game told its story through lore, the creatures, and the space pirate logs which I though was brilliant. Sadly, Echoes regressed in that regard so hopefully MP3 will go back to what made Prime so great in the first place.Ark-AMN said:One thing I enjoyed that a lot of people didn't was the scanning. I dunno, but I always enjoy reading about items or details within the game that most other games don't even give a hoot about (like, why is there a geo-thermal base in Magmoor Caverns? Its because the Space Pirates' main Dynamo was becoming unstable, or all the information in the Frigate about the Parasite Queen's escape and the events that led to the ship's evacuation pre-Samus' arrival).
I sure hope they continue this in MP3, even if for some reason, people don't care for it.
Matlock said:Man can only navigate extremely similar 2D environs with almost identical gameplay elements and no developments for so long before he gets tired of it--Metroid Fusion was one of the two forks in the road for the Metroid franchise, adding so much to the formula. The other fork, of course, was Prime.
The Prime series is still getting support, and has performed admireably.
Fusion had "Dread" as a sequel, which vanished.
Hopefully the latter comes back into production.

Um, there were years without a Metroid game between Super Metroid and Prime/Fusion. So how were you "tired" of it after Super Metroid and the Fusion, which was actually a BACKSTEP for the 2D series (in terms of being incredibly linear, the settings looking too much alike, and even music). Fusion in no way "added so much" to the formula.
Sir, I don't understand how you write for a gaming site.

That one looks like a really bad toy set or something.
ToxicAdam said:I have picked it up 3 times and just can't get into it. Maybe it's because my whole life has been a steady diet of FAST FPS games like Quake, DOD, UT, etc. That MP feels like a sluggish, slow, unresponsive game to me.
The graphics are beautiful, the boss fights are fun and the HUD and mapping is very nice. But it's hard to want to keep playing a game where I feel like I am walking in molasses.
Matlock said:As an aside, I feel the trappings of the FPS genre both do and don't work in Prime's favor. It enhances the experience, but the gameplay that is essentially the Zelda engine with a camera INSIDE YOUR EYES (oooOooOOoo) makes some cognitive dissonance that's hard to get over.

Really, you're playing wrong. The point isn't the action. The point is the adventuring, the environments, exploring, and it's something that you just don't get in your run of the mill FPS.
ToxicAdam said:That's my problem, I don't want that in an FPS. I would've enjoyed this game 100% more if it was third person .. or at least offer that camera angle when I chose it (expecially when traversing large expanses).

Seriously, I'm confused at you people more than usual tonight.
Oops. Sorry about that.Matlock said:What are you talking about? I gave examples of how I thought Metroid Prime was great...
Too true, I used to just leave the main menu screens for both games on simply because I loved the music (and the graphic design even).GaimeGuy said:The Metroid Prime Main Menu theme doesn't get enough love (remix of the classic metroid title theme).
Neither does the Prime 2 title theme or the Prime 1 title theme.

Both. It's hard to understand, and it warrants a NO. As in absolutely no validity to that statement, regardless of the fact that it is an opinion. A retarded one.Matlock said:You went from "that post is hard to understand" to a nondescript statement of disagreement. So which is it?

It's funny how people can find all these abstract ways to criticize a game, no matter how good it is. It's one of the most innovative games of this Gen, let alone ever. But no, to you it's too much like Zelda [of all games, what is it, the Z-targeting? makes no sense, but I really don't care for you to explain].
I would love to further my opinion and overall love for this game, but I have to go salt the sidewalk cause the blizzard is crazy out here.

These are the lovely songs I have spoken of. The first song is from Echoes, while the second two are from Prime. EVERYONE SHOULD LISTEN TO THEM. Thank you.
Matlock said:What you're seeing as retarded, foul criticism of Metroid Prime is me trying to rationalize the problem many have with the way the game performs. Using what is essentialy the Zelda engine as modified for a first person game can prove to be difficult for some to figure out--it's not really the first thing you think of using.
As for why it seems like the Zelda engine, everything--from movement, to the targeting, to combat in general feel much akin to the Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time games. It's hard NOT to draw the connection between the two, when having experience with them both.
That is not to say that I dislike it, which you'd note if you looked up a few posts.
But hey, throw insults my way, I enjoy your irrational hatred.
huh? It's fine for me.Error2k4 said:gaimeguy the song of MP title screen you posted stops at 20 seconds or something like that.
