Remember Another World? It's back and supports higher resolutions (dl link on pg 8)

I should point out that if you look at the interview Twightlight mentioned in Official Nintendo Magazine #2, the one with Gouichi Suda of Grasshopper, there are some other points that connect the dots. Another choice quote:
ONM: killer7 was one of our favourite games of 2005. Can we expect something similar from your Revolution game, or will it be a completely different experience?

GS: Thank you very much! killer7 is the first of my games that has been published overseas. I'm absolutely overjoyed that many people could enjoy my world-debut game! I'm developing the Revolution game with a similar ideology to killer7. I always aim to develop unique, incomparible games that no one has played before.

How does that relate to Chahi or Another World? Not saying it doesn't, I just don't see the connection.

ONMUK: Are there any people in the videogames industry you'd like to work with?
SUDA51: If I had the opportunity I would work with Eric Chahi.

ONMUK: What's your favourite and most inspirational videogame?
SUDA51: Another World.

(from ONM#02)

Thought I might add those choice quotes… ;)
Oh I'm sure someone who works on ONM just strolled in here, dropped that huge hint, and winked for no reason whatsoever...

Oh yeah I saw that, that's definitely awesome. I just meant in terms of his Revolution comments, he was already known to have been working on a Rev title.

a game that was made late in amiga life, on CD and requiring more ram than most amiga did have in standard. It was made as a tribute to Flasback

When Another World was released on pirate BBS my friend who had an Amiga downloaded it and braged about how it took the programmer 3 years to code it and only 3 minutes for him to copy it to a floppy, I wanted to punch his face when he said that.

Jeez... and is it good? You played it?
Sad nobody did port that stuff elsewhere.

On escapee is not great, it's good.

About the best Another world, they were quite all good. The 3DO one seemed to be the one with the most added detail, but i'm still not sure if i prefer it to the amiga one.

did everyone get to check out the GBA version? the homebrew one?
:O

This is exciting news, i loved AW, Flashback, and Fade to Black...

i'm assuming (without reading the thread) that this will be the next in this series??

Didn't know that the game had so many fans. I loved the hell out of 'Out of this World' and 'Heart of the Alien'. The sequle had me stumped in some parts, and I remember the ending left me wanting more. I think I may fire up my one of my SegaCDs and play both of these later this week (the SegaCD has both game on it, if I remember correctly).

FLashback was another awesome game by Delpbine, but they screwed up the sequel, 'Fade to Black' royally.

BlimBlim...why did you come in here and drop a bomb like this. You've got my nostalgic blood boiling!! Can't wait for the upcoming announcement. :D

You ever play the sequel to Flashback?
fade to black? nope. the tepid reviews combined w/ the fact that i didnt have a powerful enough PC at that time turned me away from that game. however OoTW and flashback remain two of my fav games of all time, to this day.

Teasing is good. It has nothing to do with my usual sites btw. I'm just a big fan of the game who happened to have heard a very nice thing :)

God I loved this game. It just swept me away in it's atmosphere. Not many games can accomplish that these days. So unique and magical.

I would kill for a remake or sequel. :)

Another World on Amiga. Good times. That and Warhead were, and still are, two of my favorite games ever made. Can't wait to see what this news is about.

I played the GBA fan-made port and, it was hard, but I got through the game. Too bad its kinda short, but must've been huge for its time.

A better experience than game (too much trial and error, IMO)...still one of my favorites from a long time back. The gun battles rocked hard!

Today Chahi is working on a version of Another World with vector animation rendered at a higher resolution and more detailed background graphics. Despite criticizing the games industry for no longer supporting much creativity, he says he is "still very excited" to start working on an entirely new game.

Out of this World was on cartdrige. Heart of the Alien on was CD.

Actually...the Sega CD port included both OOTW/AW and Heart of the Alien on one CD.

edit: oops someone already answered that. :P

Anyways, if you want to get technical the original Another World was on diskette. :P

What platform had the best Another World/Out of this World?

From what I've played(and I've played nearly them all), the PC version is the best. I believe it has a few extra areas over the original Amiga release, and it has better graphics(smoother animation, better framerate and slightly higher res) than the console ports.

Dunno about the 3DO port, though...

I'm a fan of Out of this World, but an even bigger fan of Flashback. I own it four times (SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, and 3DO).

This awesome game and its incredible rotoscoped graphics made me go WOW

It's the first game I saw with good polygons. Total hotness.

Out of this World 2 sucked so much balls. AFAIK it wasn't even the original team!

This game was a huge influence on Fumito Ueda, too. ICO played a lot like Another World/Flashback/Prince of Persia 1+2/Oddworld, but in 3D. There's even that colossus in SotC that's obviously a riff on the black lions from Another World.

I'll say the 3DO version. It plays in hi-resolution, compared to the PC 320x200. They redid ALL the backgrounds, and many of the sprites, making them textured, instead of flat shaded. The first couple screens, when you're dodging the monster and those damn worm-things look great. There's hidden mini games that are included in the 3DO version that weren't included in the PC version, or Sega CD version (to my knowledge. I have the Sega CD version, but never tried the code on it...). The game was a bit more responsive (to me, at least) on the Sega CD version than it was on the 3DO version. Then again, I've always disliked the 3DO controller, so I'm sorta biased.

Edit: Aha! Pics for comparison...

I was watching my friend play ico a few months back, and it was the first time i had seen the game in action (i've never played it before)... my first reaction was "damn this reminds me of out of this world".. It's similair in atmosphere and puzzle design. I guess i need to buy ico (although i'm usually disapointed with super short games).

exactly my thoughts when I first tried Ico: "This is like Another world in 3d"

AW was really groundbreaking for its time
