Remember light up shoes?

I was just going through a buzzfeed list about bad 90s fads and I remembered this. I remember you were so cool awesome if you had these as a kid, I had one pair but then my parents threw them away and didn't let me get another pair. Something about animals being killed to make them or something.

Who else remembers these?

I remember in high school some geeky white kid still had light up shoes. We were all sitting up in the bleachers for the game and we saw this dude. We peer pressure'd the fuck out of him to let us see it for a minute, and we stood up and smacked the bottom like "GOD SAID LET THERE BE LIGHT!"

A majority of toddler shoes still have that. My 5 year olds freaking winter boots light up when he walks

I had some... but always wondered why the lights were red instead of purple, or blue.

I really wanted purple and blue lights.

Tennis shoe companies popularized these to make it easier to hunt children from their limousines. Most of them used nonlethal net cannons and let them go after they weighed them, but a lot of kids are still unaccounted for.

Scary.

Be safe, GAF.

In the 90's, kids walked to school in their new pair of L.A. Lights and walked home in their socks after getting jacked.

I remember the light-up feature not lasting very long on all the pairs I had. I think I went through 2 or 3 pairs before my mom just decided to get regular shoes.

Just a couple years ago Sketcher's Twinkle Toes line was a big hoopla. They're like mini strobe lights and were considered distracting in the classroom. And the far fetched scams of some students having seizures caused by them.
