What have Samsung said about this issue?

Surely a world wide produce recall has to take place.

I'm not saying you're lying, but I've only read about airlines 'investigating' the issue and taking the advice of the FAA to warn passengers not to use or charge the phones.

Even if the attendants on your flights did say "no Note 7s allowed", there's no reasonable way to regulate it. Firstly, Samsung make a huge number of different phones, so someone shouting out the wrong name isn't incredibly helpful to passengers; and secondly, the S6 Edge, S7 Edge and Note 5 look very similar to the Note 7 to the untrained eye. Let's not also forget people who have had their Note 7s replaced, or people who would outright lie about which phone they possess.

Sorry when I say banned I mean banned from use, not from carrying it on

I flew WestJet and United Airlines and both of them made announcements prior to the safety present that any Galaxy 7 phones must be completely shut off and stowed away for the duration of the flight

You'd think except that the phones issued after the recall still fucked up.

I've heard that some newer ones have had issues with overheating batteries, but are there reliable sources that show that newer ones still have issues with exploding batteries?

What's the incident rate on this?

Such a colossal fuck up, it really is incredible. Too bad, as the S7 Edge is probably the best phone I've owned. Thankfully that isn't affected by this whole fiasco, but going forward though I'll likely avoid Samsung phones.

I love my Galaxy S5.

Haven't had a problem with it in over 2 years.

I think Samsung cut too many corners trying to increase battery life over the past couple years and now it's literally burning them.

I thought all the bad ones had a software update pushed that limited the charge to 80% or something? or you could still use them?

what a disaster for Samsung. I like my S7 but I'll go either iPhone or Pixel with my next phone.

Flew to Spain last week, was told upon boarding anyone using a Note 7 during the flight would be arrested on arrival.

What about the Note 7 devices with the firmware update that indicates the battery is good (green battery symbol)?

Safety first, if not sure be safe etc., but very bad situation Samsung has gotten itself into if even safe devices can't be flown with.

I have S7 Edge, it's probably not that easy to tell from a Note 7 at first glance.

Even if the next model ends up having no issue like this after months of release?

Lol, I don't get people. I understand the concern for safety because this is a very serious issue.

I also understand that statistically I have a greater chance of getting injured or killed in an car accident...

Keep in mind that before this incident, they manufactured hundreds of millions of phones - more than any other manufacturer on the globe (including the S7 and S7 Edge, which use the same processor). It's shocking they allowed this to happen, but I have serious doubts that this would be an issue in the future.

This is factually incorrect, lol. There's a good YouTube video I watched a month ago, which is likely a good indication that shows what the actual issue was. I'll have to see if I can locate it and post it here.

My Note 5 is a champ. Glad I didn't wait for the 7.

I love Samsung products, but woof, this is just a commercial disaster of the highest order.

At this point, the Galaxy and Note brands are both poison. They're going to have to re brand their phones entirely.

60%, but that was just stopgap and now they are working with various Canada/US/other agencies on a full recall of affected models.

The problem is that it's much more difficult to train staff to look for the "signs of safety" than to ban the model. Hence the poster in this thread who said that the intercom voice mentioned "iPhone Note 7". At some point this is just straight-up damaging the trust of the Brand because generalization will turn it into "Samsungs explode" and not anything just related to a single model.

FYI there have been 5 cases of Note 7 catching fire in China so far. And Chinese Note 7 all have the new batteries. From what I read the first 2 cases were *probably* frauds but the photo from the later ones look like internal burnings/explosions.

USA Today is saying it's a Note 7, but the owner claims it was new replacement.

If they got a replacement 2 weeks ago my guess would be that att replaced their recalled model with another recalled model. Ive seen exactly that happening on the Reddit threads about getting the replacements.

Samsung is somewhat to blame though as the people selling these phones need to be aware the replacements have a black square on the box and battery indactor is green instead of white once powered on and updated.

If it is confirmed to be a replacement phone then yeah Samsung is fucked. I'll return my note7 immediately if this story ends up being true. Samsung will have to verify their story and issue a statement. I would think the at&t store would have a record of the imei they gave them on the replacement.

The weird thing is, though, if the software on the phone was up to date, they would have gotten a splash screen on bootup saying it was a faulty model that needed to be replaced.

It was a replacement note 7? If so, the note or galaxy brand may need a rebranding because this won't be easy to recover from.

Those new Google Pixel phones are looking mighty nice right now...

Oh no.. It's not Waterproofed, doesn't have an SD slot, dual speakers, S-Pen, too expensive and doesn't explode so it's not good at all. Buy the OP3 instead.

They shouldn't rebrand though. It will alienate their fanbase so sticking to the Galaxy series seems like the best thing to do as of recent trends suggest.

They may not have updated their software I guess? Or they are just full of shit and never replaced it and didn't want to look like idiots. Or it could just be a very rare incident with the new note7s and this is just really bad timing. This will happen to any phone with a lithium battery from time to time.

Or yeah the replacements may have an issue smh.

So i was checking out my flight information and it says that the Galaxy Note 7 is banned (Aerolineas Argentinas) LINK

Even though I have a post launch "safe" model, I don't let me kids use it in fear of there still being a problem with these devices. Hope this wasn't part of the new batch or else Samsung has a bigger mess on their hands than they already have.

I'm sure airlines are briefing flight attendants on what the phones look like. It will only accelerate now and they will tell passengers to turn them off and/or turn the phone into them if they can't follow the rules

I could see they didn't want to look like idiots.

In the article, the owner's wife said,

"He said he had just powered it down, when it made a popping noise and started smoking," Sarah Green said. "He took it out of his pocket and threw it on the ground."

"Just powered it down" sounds like something you'd say if you were playing around with your phone when you know you weren't supposed to.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what they find when they look into it.

I guess the point I'm making that if the issue is fixed, why wouldn't people go back and purchase something they liked in the first place? I mean you would probably have to trust that Samsung's new Note 7's do have the issue fixed.

Because brands can be damaged. The longer this goes on the more Samsung becomes the "that phone that explodes" company.
