Hollywood trade magazine Variety reports that Xbox Entertainment Studios, the arm of the company which was developing programs based on its game lineup and original shows featuring TV stars, is no more.

According to Variety, former CBS exec Nancy Tellem and the rest of her team have been let go, despite an expectation that they'd have the rest of the year to finalize the fate of the studio's projects.

TV, TV, TV is no more.

Entertain me if old.

Must not have had confidence in their output.

It's certainly something they could have tried their hand at considering a lot of good TV is coming out of Netflix etc.

Weren't they developing portions of Quantum Break? The live action portions, right?

Weren't they also supposed to be making the Halo movie or whatever?

So they are just confirming, right? Because I could swear that I read on GAF something like this, and I remember people freaking out about Quantum Break

It was confirmed back then too. But the transition takes time.

Yeah. We also already know that Quantum Break and Halo: Nightfall didn't have anything to do with Xbox entertainment, so they're save.

It's effective today.

Which by the way is a few months earlier than expected. The team was supposed to have until the end of the year to figure out if anything worked.

Those things were already confirmed to be unaffected as well as a couple of the shows that were well into development.

Sucks for those who lost their jobs especially as it looks like it happened earlier than originally indicated

Seems like the 200 hundred rank and file employees apparently have been gone for months. What was left was...

Tellem and her top lieutenant Jordan Levin had been trying to salvage some of the projects that they’d been developing under the Xbox Studios banner by bringing them to a new studio. But the pair had initially expected to stay through year’s end at Microsoft, which would have given them more time to sort through the thicket of rights issues involved in relocating the scripted and nonscripted projects.

Sooo what's gonna happen with the ET documentary?

Sad when people lose their jobs, but I think the Xbox brand and focus will be better with out this studio.

As do I. Refocusing Xbox on games will help in the long run. I'm sure those involved will find great new jobs, anyhow- TV has been exploding recently.

I'm fairly certain they screened it (Pat the NES Punk and the AVGN, among others talked about watching and laughed about the fact the AVGN movie was premiered in the same location the day before or after) so it is all finished and done so hopefully will see a general release.

They could still do a talkshow with Major Nelson.

He could sit down and interview major figures from the gaming world and then smile through gritted teeth - like that wonderful GIF that turned up around this time last year.

His first guest could be Angry Joe.

It added a lot of insecurity about games as a medium when they thought they had to make movies and TV shows to promote the games. The new leadership seems to have more faith in the games, so this is a step in the right direction.

Is Nancy the lady who made the "water cooler" comment at the Xbox One reveal ?

Yes, oh god, I cringed so hard.

Come to think of it, I cringed through the entire conference.

I literally could predict the course of the whole console generation from the first half hour.

can someone at MS please talk to Netflix so that the Halo Nightfall series can be a real on going TV show? that would be great. and while there at it, maybe do a Fusion Frenzy Game Show or something on ABC or a channel like it.

ah ok then. Still sucks for them but I guess it didn't affect the majority of the work force there as they had already been let go :\
