Resident Evil 1 or REmake for a newcomer? Or just skip straight to 4 HD?

Finished Chris's story last night, got a special key. Probably for
costume closet
?

Should I play Jill or should I just move onto RE2?

Spoilers for a question: Also, I seem to remember something from REmake (or was it RE0?) where you wandered into the forest
into a cabin where a character Lisa (?) was and she mutated into a monster... but this wasn't in RE1 when I finished it this week. What game is this section in? Am I imagining things?

That's REmake only, man.

that's rebirth, but I dont know where you saw the mutation.
She is already mutated.

Sorry,
she was mutated already
, yeah.

Dang. So I'm not crazy! When does that happen in REmake, exactly? Do you go into the
forest after you make it to the Guardhouse area with the dorms?

Man... I so wish I had REmake still. Playing RE: DC really made me miss crimson heads. Although, in RE: DC, in the
lab I'm pretty sure the naked zombies don't go away unless you score a headshot/decapitation. So they're kind of like crimson heads... except way less aggro!

no you go there before going in the guarhouse. You get the crank in the cabin

Just play it on dolphin if you dont have a gamecube anymore. Game runs just fine.

Might grab a used copy online and go for it. I really want to own and eventually play REmake again.

Right now I'm itching to start RE2. I started playing RE1 with the goal of getting to RE2 because of that "Why is RE2 so good" thread last week. I'm actually pretty pleased with how quick RE1 was to finish up! I ended up finishing it in 9 hours but playing on Beginner so I could speed through and get a hang of classic fixed camera + tank controls RE. I think I'm going to play RE2 on Normal though. I ended up with wayyyyyyyy too much ammo and healing items playing RE1 on Beginner.

REmake is the best survival horror ever, you HAVE to play it

REmake was my introduction to the series, and having played RE1 later on, I'm grateful for that.

RE1 has aged badly, but luckily Capcom learned fast, as RE2 and RE3 were much better, and are still awesome.

It doesn't matter if you play RE4 before, after, or even alongside REmake. They're such wildly different games, that they honestly might as well be from separate franchises. RE4 is a survival horror, and RE4 is an action game. There are VERY little storyline connections. RE4 doesn't even have any zombies.
