Resident evil 1 remake was made with effort

But Capcom is Broke.

It'll no longer be my most anticipated game if it is not pre-rendered.

All the more reason to make it what people actually want! I don't care if the backgrounds aren't pre-rendered, and I wouldn't really expect them to be anyway, but I'm gonna be gutted if it's not in the classic style. Fans have been asking for this remake for over a decade specifically because they want the REmake treatment. Like they have two amazing blueprints to work from to make things easier: RE2, and REmake.

just to put it in raw numbers:

PSX, original shipping console: 2MB of RAM, 360,000 polygons on a good day
GCN for REMake: 40MB of RAM, 12 million polygons on a good day

Rebel Strike topped out in between 16-21million and did it above 30fps at times with light scattering and it had multiplayer split screen too.

Give your Gamecube Daddy credit. Next to PS4 and DC never has a finer 3d console existed sorry MS your shit just don't cut it outside of OG XBX for lyfe.

This post fills me with dread. In my eyes there's no reason they can't make it in the REmake style, that's what everyone wants!

I really wouldn't like that. It would be bloated and messy in terms of length and pacing jumping around between characters and locations and getting rid of the tight pacing of each individual game. As Code Veronica has shown me, a longer game doesn't really mks more sense for this style of survival horror. Not to mention RE3 has its own unique identity and mechanics that I'd rather see reflected in a seperate remake of its own.
I agree that Dusk's post is unnerving. I've made my own views known in the past; REmake 2 should be made in the Classic style, with fixed/dynamic camera angles. Anything else wouldn't be RE2, and if it's not RE2, why even bother? Why not just make a new game in first/third-person, and avoid angering your fanbase? Also, I agree that combining RE2 and 3 is a bad idea. Separate REmakes, pls.

Either pre-rendered or real-time backgrounds would be fine by me. I'd prefer real-time even, as it would allow for more interactive environments and dynamic camera angles that could pan to follow the player (thus making the likely inclusion of REmake HD style alt controls work better due to not having constant transitions). The most important thing for them to nail, for me personally, is a cinematic camera perspective that the player does not have direct control over. If they decided to, say, make an over the shoulder RE4 clone set in Raccoon City just to chase mainstream gamers (which I believe the game could be popular/successful with, regardles of perspective) I would feel similarly to you. I would be utterly hearbroken. Perhaps it's silly to care so much about a game/franchise, but I can't help it. :/

Also, to OP, I agree. REmake is by far the greatest video game remake of all time, and nothing else comes close to what it achieved in terms of both improving upon the original, and also being faithful to it. REmake 2 should follow it's example, although I strongly fear that it won't. :(

It is the remakes of remakes to be fair. I can't think of one that had more effort put into it and came out not only slavishly faithful and affectionate towards the original, but also wonderfully it's own thing.
Totally agree.

Now, Capcom, just gimme my RE2&3 remakes with my sweet, sweet fixed camera.

Don't know if I would say always. Problem with pre-rendered is that they're stuck at whatever resolution they were rendered at back then. The HD ports upscaled many of them from SD and they don't look as good as they could have if they just had kept hi-res renders around.

Really short sighted of Capcom to render those in 480p and throw away the assets.

Also, I believe we have far surpassed REmake backgrounds quality for real-time graphics.

But yeah, that's how you remake a game. Put a similar effort in your remakes and you can sell me old games for several more years to come.

This industry really has ruined the meaning of the word "remake."

REmake was an actual remake -- almost a whole new game with the original title. What we're getting today are mostly ports from one console generation to another console generation that usually just toss in a higher resolution and the original PC assets. A few are remaking the assets entirely though (like Halo Anniversary or Modern Warfare Remastered).

The ironic thing is that the release of the game you're playing doesn't add anything except DLC costumes, and isn't even using HD assets, but upressed filters.

Actual sraight remakes of games are fairly uncommon, sounds like you're talking more about rush job ports or technically inept remasters.

I can't think of a whole lot of truly bad remakes. None at all come to mind really.

But back on topic, REmake is the gold standard. Phenomenally done.

Turtles in Time Reshelled.

To be honest who really kept old assets around in those days especially Japanese devs?? Remasters and remakes really weren't a thing like they are now and no one has a crystal ball for this type of stuff. I loved the PS1 Final Fantasy games, but you couldn't pay me to play them again today. The low res pre-rendered assets on my 1080p tv are unbearable for me to look at now. Those games are only going to age worse as time goes on.
