Why are remakes on this? These are games that held up as standouts in the past. It kind of sends a message that truly new games suck so bad that reruns of old classics are better.

I never really got the RE games so I guess I am biased. The shit control of the original on PS1 turned me off on the series.

Another one for Nier. Came in for the gameplay, stayed for the FEELs.

What a close poll.

But RE2 was no common remake. that was remake-perfected.

I'm pretty sure any of the Yorha could pass the Turing test. Even so, it's not about that. How many genres of games does Nier represent. It's starts as a shmup, into a action adventure, to a 2d scroller with platforming, to twin stick shooter I mean come on. With 20 something "Endings". Insanely good combat, unique and inventive enemies and bosses, distinct landscapes, a great story, dope weapons and the music....dude the musiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic.

RE2 remake is a great game too...but it just doesn't edge out Nier. I'm sorry.

Have you played Resident Evil 2 and RE2 Remake? That are NOT the same game.

LMAO how it feels watching this poll go back and forth:

Yeah, I kept seeing that same argument against it during GOTY noms too. RE2 is NOT a remake. It's a reimagining. Completely different game from the OG version.

Re2 remake for me. I tried to get into nier several times but the difficulty settings threw me off. Medium too easy, hard too difficult. Maybe if the damn tutorial didn't restart without any checkpoints I would've continued playing it..

Both games are in my Top 5 for the generation. So yeah, this is the most difficult choice so far for me.

It's pretty much GOTY 2017 vs. GOTY 2019.

Nier wins for me... by a thread.

What kind of match up is this? Nier Automata is actually a unique game with a lot of content while RE2 is hardly a one for one remake.

I'd pick Automata only if 9s wasn't forced to be played for as long as he was, it absolutely nullifies any interest of ever replaying it because of how shitty his gameplay loop is

RE 2 was aggressively ok and nothing more. never played the original one back then and I don't understand whats so stellar about it. Can't pick one over the other

Man I really hope Automata wins, it's a much more important game than RE2 Remake. Even as a very competent zombie game, it's all it is, while Nier has that craziness and depth that is rare to find in a videogame. 50/50 though, this is very close between sheer polish and pure creativity.

This is going to be a 51-49 situation I can feel it.
It already is.

For me it's gonna be Resident Evil 2 Remake. Nier Automata looks like a great game from the demo I've played but fuck that "sacrifice your save data in order to see an ending" b.s.

Live and let die.

You don't actually have to sacrifice your save data in order to see an ending at all. Are you referring to Ending E?
