Resident Evil 4 HD Project - Progress Thread

This is some outstanding work.

Truly sensation results for just one person. You deserve some serious kudos.

However, I agree with the sentiment expressed by others that you seriously need a team for this.

you actually finish this, I'm definitely gonna buy RE4 on Steam and play through it again. Haven't touched it since the GC version. Awesome work so far!

Same, waiting for the project to complete. When it's completed, Ima buy RE4 on Steam.
 
This is better than anything Capcom would ever do with the RE series in this day and age. So glad I donated and I may even donate again to make sure you guys get to finish this amazing project.

Incredible work. Wish I wasn't so broke at the moment so I could donate to this! Best of luck with finishing it, the end product will look fantastic no doubt.

Huh, is Leon's jacket texture updated in these examples? Seems like the original texture.

Only environmental textures are done with the Christmas release. And given the "controversy over any modification of Leon's jacket, it'll likely be the very last texture we tackle. :)

will the other costumes be retextured? Will this mod extend to Mercenaries? They use a lot of the same environments and enemies, but what about Wesker? I know showing off the environments is key and easy to do, but I'm kinda wondering how the texture upgrade on the character/weapon models is going.

Everything will be enhanced in the end. This part of the FAQ from the site (re4hd.com) may help answer your question:

How much of the game is going to be retextured?

Just about every texture, including those for Separate Ways, Mercenaries, etc.

How much has been completed?

We are working through the game in the following order:
– Environmental Textures
– Items and Weapons
– Enemies, NPCs, Playable Characters, Misc.
– Mercenaries, Separate Ways, and anything not covered above
As of Oct 25, 2014, we are approximately 30% through the environmental textures. I will update this periodically (every 2 months or so) as we progress.

I did not believe in this project when it started. Very happy to be wrong, outstanding work.
 
Simplay amazing job. After seeing the work the team has done I feel the rest of the game is just incomplete and don't even want to play past the village until the rest is done.
 
Now THIS should be called the ULTIMATE HD EDITION! I've been using the new textures for a few days now and it looks absolutely amazing. The only problem I had was running it at 3840x1620 downsampled to 2560x1080. It would occasionally crash when loading a new area. It might be related to VRAM since my card only has 2GB. Using DSR in the NVIDIA Control Panel I lowered my resolution from 3840x1620 to 3620x1527 and it's run rock solid ever since. Now my only problem is once you get to the Castle section it's like getting hit in the face with an ugly stick because those are still the old textures. Can't wait for all of the textures to be finished. I've already donated but plan on donating again once it's complete.
 
Good news is that based on feedback from those who donated and downloaded early, we've been able to optimize the rooms that were causing issues. :) Folks who downloaded early will get a separate link with just those optimized packs so they don't need to redownload the whole thing. :)
 
So uhm... you guys thought about doing a torrent release or something? Chrome download is insanely slow. there's 16 hours left until this is done for me :(
 
OH MY GOD, this kind of commitment is incredible. This release is going to bump up sales but I'll wait till the entire thing is complete. Once I start Bio4, there's no stopping!
 
Daaamn this looks just amazing. Really great job you guys have done so far. I was honestly expecting this to be abandoned. There's so many "HD projects" for tons of games that people abandona after just a few textures. But you guys have been at it like crazy.

Really looking forward to finished project, I will get the 60fps version and replay the game.
 
We’re happy to share that we are releasing the entire set of Village environmental textures on Christmas day! Anyone who has donated in the past (or who donates by 12/18/2014) will be able to download it early (about a week early).

This looks amazing! Keep up the excellent work. :)

I never would have guessed that the symbol or whatever on the sliding puzzle had text at the bottom as it's illegible with original textures.

I'm not sure if others have noticed but when playing 16:9 the game has a slight blur to it. If you render it in 4:3 like the game originally did you'll probably be able to get much crisper screenshots to better show off the texture detail.

I don't personally have the game yet so I can't check myself but it's worth looking into for anyone who wants to keep things sharp.

Said they're saving character models for last since they're the most divisive ones. People tend to be very on edge when it comes to staying true to original character textures, they wanna make sure they do them right.

I'm surprised you don't have the game! Are you planning on getting the UHD version eventually?
