Resident Evil 5: How to play single player?

I agree with this post. Single-player is not as bad as some make it out to be; it's just nowhere near as good as RE4.
At least Sheva doesn't need to hide in dumpsters :P

This. I played it SP, and it was good. Not RE4 good, but good. Played it through twice actually. Had to try out all the unlocked weapons.

If you were to play RE4, play a console version besides Wii. Not like I'm hating on the wii, I just found it way too easy.
Wii version can be played with remote or gamecube gamepad. It also supports 480p and proper widescreen and it has all the extra campaigns and content that the PS2 version had, so it really is the definitive version of the game.

I hear wii is the DEFINITIVE version

Not really. They got rid of the laser for this bright green icon that's always swooping across the screen. It breaks the immersion for me and it makes the game almost too easy.

I think when the OP says Single Player, he's not just referring to a mode of single play (like, you control Chris and the AI controls Sheva), but a scenario where there's just one character and you're controlling it and that's it. I think that's lent to some of the miscommunication in the thread.

Yeah, you have to beat the campaign to unlock Mercs. Maybe just complete it on Easy? Mercs is awesome. I put much more time into that than the campaign. Still need to buy the DLC to try out Mercs Reunion.

I think a lot of people just don't realize sheva needs to be treated equally to chris, people horde guns and shit for themselves and in turn sheva dies because she's using a starter handgun on a chainsaw dude. Give he equal weapons to you and she's fine I say.

I would prefer solo to be just me though, but I found re5 to be fun both single and multiplayer.

Personally, I gave her a rifle and let her do her thang. She would pull off some crazy shots that I couldn't dream of making, particularly while on the vehicle sections. Also, as others have stated, she makes a great mule.

RE4's solo gameplay with occasional help is still superior though.

this. Sheva is ridiculously amazing with a rifle. Don't give her anything else and you'll blow through the game no problem.

do NOT give her something like a machine gun (she'll waste ammo) and for some reason she'll hoard grenades and never, ever use them (wasting space unnecessarily) so watch out for that

People talk about Sheva being a brain dead AI, but it seems more like people who are brain dead have problems with her. I had no problem completing most of the game on all difficulties with her. 95% of the time, she was better than whatever idiot I got thrown into a game with.

As many said, she is great with a rifle. Keep her to single shot weapons, unless you wanna just make her burn her way through all the machine gun ammo you find.

:lol

i really should have clarified - seems like not many people understood me : /

This, I wish I had RE5 on PS3
and a PS3
for the extra Mercenary's Mode content.

Sheva is a wonderful A.I. and a good partner in the game. I've watched her do a ton of cool things, using the environment, and healing me time and time again. You just have to know what her strengths and limitations are.

First, she aims for the body rather than the head, so avoid giving her weapons with the Critical special ability. Rather she's quite effective with the Penetration power found in one of the guns and in one of the submachine guns.

Second, her awareness extends to the edge of her vision in all directions, which means she can be shooting at people you don't even see. For this reason the bolt action rifle is a great fit for her. She does tend to waste ammo so the bolt action ameliorates that.

The usual rollout was Sheva with the submachine gun and the bolt action rifle. I took a pistol, a magnum, and a shotgun. That way we never competed for ammo.

Once you can get the bow, Sheva's golden. It's powerful and has unlimited ammo.

She will waste healing if you let her, so don't. I give her all of the red herbs I found because when she picked up a green herb she would automatically mix it. I would ever only leave her with one actual healing item at a time.

RE5 is great fun playing solo. Give Sheva a chance!

Sheva is awesome...when she is not blocking your view or wasting sprays...so never.

Seriously, couldn't they make so she didn't have to be all the fucking time blocking your view?

I played through 90% of the game in SP, you'll be fine. No, it's not the ideal way to go about it, but it's better than not playing the game at all.

Debatable.

If you have a friend, Co-op is enjoyable. Randoms? No, probably not.

The game isn't as good as Resi 4 as everyone says, but it's still a rather good game. Of course, I didn't go into it with any kind of expectation or mindset.

The game is shit - AI or actual 2nd player.
The game would be better if you could kill Sheva and continue on your own.

I played RE5 by myself, and enjoyed it quite a lot. It does get frustrating like a couple of times, but it doesn't ruin the game in general. Ignore the internet hate, get it.

This. Just give her a machinegun, since she never goes for headshots, and try to keep her away from herbs, since she doesn't understand they can be combined.
