Resident Evil 5 outsells SFII as Capcom's biggest seller

Loved the game, except the brain dead A.I. I still have RE 6 still in the plastic waiting to be played. That game got a lot of hate for some reason. I'm sure I'll dig it.

Wasn't this game in bargain bins shortly after launch on all platforms? I remember paying over $100 for SFII on SNES and I dont think the price bottomed out comparatively.

RE6 was ok, great gameplay but forgettable locales.

I'm also happy to see that Revelations hit a 1M copies. Such a great game, especially on PC. Raid mode was something I didn't bother much with on the 3DS version, but I spent 80 hours on it on the PC version playin' with my bro.

Wait unless I'm misunderstanding the article this can't be right at all.

This quote is about Resident Evil 4

Meanwhile that article states Resident Evil 5′s life-time sales to be at 6.5 million units since 2009

IIRC Capcom distinguishes between different versions of games. RE4, RE4 Wii and RE4 HD are considered different games (and are reported as such) whereas RE5 had only one version + DLC.

Still the best 4koma ever.

I'm kinda sad it's Bio5 and not Bio4, mostly because
they/Jun Takuchi killed of Wesker, the bastards
! But at least it isn't Bio6.

Nice, I liked RE5 quite a bit. RE6 though....well yeah that's been bantered about so much already. At least in regards to that game we have Revelations to make up for it.

Hopefully when making the next one, they look to 1 through 5 (though I'll admit, lean more on 4 than 5) for an idea on how to get things back on a better track.

RE5 is the sequel to RE4. RE4 is the reason it sold so well. RE4 got people to care about the series again.

As for the actual game, I couldn't get into it. The forced co-op hurt the game for me. I think it's probably a decent co-op shooter, but that's not what I wanted. Man I miss RE4.

Wow. Really puts Rockstar's 29 million units shipped in a month figure in perspective if this is Capcom's best-selling release in their entire history.

Using the figures from Capcom's site, here are how the numbered RE games have performed.

Resident Evil 5.08M
(RE 2.75M, RE DC 1.13M, RE DS 1.2M)

Resident Evil 2 4.96M

Resident Evil 3 3.5M

Resident Evil 4 5.8M
(Wii 1.9M, PS2 2.3M, GC 1.6M)

Resident Evil 5 6.5M

Resident Evil 6 5.2M

Resident Evil 5 is a solid game and very fun in Co-op. I'm not surprised by its success given the following:

* Sequel to RE4 which was extremely popular anyway
* Co-op RE
* First PS360 numbered RE title

Had everything going for it. Final result might leave a lot to be desired but it's still a good and content-packed game. A better game than RE6, absolutely.

This right here.

I bought a copy as soon as it came out. Was hoping for more of what I loved about RE 4, and I didn't get it. With so many people saying it was a great game, I guess I can't tell them they are wrong, but it was a big let down for me.

I have to confess the I bought a second copy so a friend could play with me :P

I also admit that that was a draw before I played the demo. Then me and my friend realized how the inventory system worked and that you could pretty much re-skin every character as someone from gears of war...

Wow RE6 did ok

I understand what you're saying, but what about RE5 and RE5 Gold? Is Gold in a different category? Because that's the same as SF2, SF2 Turbo, etc.

Also, are PS3, Xbox and PC all counted together?

Very cool. Thanks!

Yeah but there's like a few things that make Gears a decent shooter the RE5 lacks one example being it's just as enjoyable playing alone or in co-op.

It's ironic how the worst in the series have the most sales.

So far RE6 will beat it though, it's numbers are already high and still growing, plus it's a significantly better game than RE5.

Cool, had a lot of fun with RE5.

I'd imagine that a lot of this is owed to Steam sales and the like?

Wouldn't be surprised at all if RE6 overtook it once it hits super low Steam sale price.

Rest in peace old school biohazard games.
:_(.

Having marathoned them very recently, trying to play them without the nostalgia goggles, can't say i'll miss them much.
Aside from REmake, it was an incredible chore going through them.

And i'm one who has always thought of them as some of my favorite games from that gen.

Anyway this experience makes me consider RE4 (and Dino Crisis 1) with even higher respect.

SF2 is a legendary game that changed fighting games and one of the most important games.

RE5 is mediocre and slightly terrible shooter.(the worst in its series imo)

life is unfair lol

You can say that again :\

I think one of the more interesting pieces of info to pull out of this is that Mega Man has never really sold super well. Only 4 Mega Man games have ever sold over 1 million copies. Very interesting...

I'm ok with this. Residen Evil 5 is a great game. It might not be like the first games in the series at all so there will always be people that dislike it for that, but it's still bloody good.

Interesting thing to consider- do you think cheap digital sales helped to get RE5 over that hump? It was the first one to be widely available for digital download on all three platforms, and was sold for below $10 on PC numerous times.

RE6 also sold well out of the gate, but didn't have the same long tail that RE5 did due to bad reviews

Six million cries of agony will birth a new Capcom order.

Soon, even you will understand, gamers. One look at the new Capcom, and it will all make perfect sense.

I liked Resident Evil 5.

Must say that the report's cover is lolworthy:

EDIT: And on page 3 they say Mega-Man first came on SNES on 1987...

That's just fucking mean. They're toying with us.
