Resident Evil 5 Sells 5 Million Copies

Geez, cvxfreak you're crazy. One copy is enough to enjoy the game. You don't need to create all these sales success do you? Just buy one copy of RE: Darkside Chronicles okay, or else get help. You have got to be under heavey debt.

This thread once again proves GAF's love/hate timeline.

Game comes out : "Oh my fuckin god the awesome"
Some months go by: "Overrated, meh."
Years go by: "We want RE6, RE5 was so good!"

Crushed made a gif for that.

Also, fantastic game. Haters be damned.

I hope that they hurry up with the PC version. I've never been able to enjoy any of the RE's that I've tried, but the 360 demo sold me enough to see if the controls will be more responsive with a mouse. If it controls like a third-person shooter rather than doped-up tank I'll be sold.

feels pretty good knowing I didn't spend $60 on shit.

Then how about this: you see the thread title. Don't click it to act like a whiny little piece of crap and call people "retards" for buying a game that got good reviews and many people enjoyed.

You're like a child.

I think this is called trolling. And it's a bit ironic considering the way you frown upon people who do the same thing of games you like. Double standards are fun.

edit: you edit posts remarkably fast.

I am out.

And thus, the troll heads back to his mother's basement to write in his journal about pwning some n00bs on the internet who like something he doesn't, only to then cry himself to sleep whispering to himself, "Why am I alone?"

The 5,000,000 retards line was great but the post above was even better.:lol
I'm not a fan of this game either. Glad I rented first. I know one of my friends will buy the PC version so for kicks I'll check it out. I guess that'll be another retard added to the list.:b

WTF? controls now??

One good example of a shitty game with horrible controls and still sells amazingly well is RE5, it sold because of it's brand and Capcom marketed the shit out of it which Sony failed to do. I saw more ads for the MLB08 The Show here in Canada than the Killzone ads, hell they are still airing here.

My balls it's a great game, no one would have gave a shit about it if it wasn't named Resident Evil.

ok so? I am not the only to call it out for it's shitty animation.

ok? I found Punchout fun, Smash was not, end of story.

charging 9.99 for a PS1 game, where every other game is 4.99, and let's not forget your precious RE5 versus mode.

:lol

ok this time I am really out.

Wow, you really got me there. 16 posts a day. That's like... holy shit. I must have no life at all.

I don't care if you don't like the game. But you have no place calling people that buy the game "retards". Just admit you acted like a small child and I wouldn't give you crap about it.

hopefully this doesn't encourage them to keep making non-horror RE games. :(

listen, capcom, let's make a deal. you can keep making non-horror RE games if you start up a new, horror based IP, in the same vein. deal?

All this for a post I edited right away? you're the only that keeps quoting it.

I also enjoyed this game immensely.

I feel sorry for anyone who was not able to enjoy it. And doubly so for anyone still trying to convince other people why they shouldn't be enjoying it either.

I really enjoyed the game but it did have several flaws that did hold it back. But despite that I have played through the coop several times...

This makes me sick to my stomach.

A broken ass game sells because of it's brand name, just like it's movies.
So..... much.....
Well, some may see it positive: In a couple of years we'll be able to choose between two versions of Gears of War. One where you can move while shooting and one where you can't....

Certainly it wasn't the good reviews that helped sell the game either.

Nah, that would be crazy!

Completely average outside of some really nice in engine animation. Nowhere near Dead Space, let alone RE4.

It was ok I guess with a friend. Nothing too severy broken or boring.

It's just that I've already played this game and it was better years ago...

Good reviews are way to overrated. It's all about the marketing and making people know the game. That's all.

are you seriously trying to say that you think there is something wrong with ppl who didnt enjoy it?

If we go by most of the negative replies in this thread, yes there definitely is something wrong with those people. :lol

But it's quite clear what he meant; that he feels sorry that some people could not enjoy a potentially awesome experience that he and others were able to.

I'm not surprised at how the majority of the criticism leveled against this game is totally irrational. After all, if you downright hate a game, as opposed to just not liking it, then your emotions have already taken over. Still, I'd be interested in actually reading some genuine criticism of the game.

This also applies to a lot of the love the game gets. Its a two way street.

*not trolling* I've gone from dispassionate to hating the industry the longer this generation lasts, but I'm very interested in the next entries in series that had "letdowns." Anecdotally, there were a fair amount of Madden gamers at Gamestops in my area who actively dislike Grand Theft Auto 4. Same with Resident Evil 5. I'm VERY curious about sales of the next ones.

Good point, it will be interesting. I get the feeling that the RE and GTA brands are big enough at this point to still give the sequels considerably success, but whether or not they'll match the sales of the former games in each series is up in the air.

Anecdotal evidence for games is simply no real way to gauge things. If we went by GAF we would be swimming in Shenmue titles. Saints Row would be the biggest seller on the planet. Games that sell a lot of copies have more people that like them and more people that dislike them. Passionately. On both sides. You sometimes just hear from one contingent more than the other based on random number theory.

GTA will remain GTA sales wise. Resident Evil will remain Resident Evil sales wise. There is a reason these big franchises continually sell. Because they have wide appeal and they generally satisfy the masses every outing.

How would we be swimming in Shenmue titles? Although there's a huge Shenmue fan community on gaf, there's probably the same amount, if not more, haters. It's a very divisive game series.

There are a lot of haters because there a lot of fans. One rises to match the flow and ebb of the other here on GAF.

What I'm saying is that the insights of the hardcore community are only useful as to the hardcore community and even then we are talking about a small subset of that community.

There is nothing wrong with GAF having different tastes from the mainstream but we shouldn't confuse the two.

Probably will do nothing to make a huge dent in sales, at least in GTA's case.

I wonder if there's a chance for something to replace it. If I recall, Halo 3's outsold Call Of Duty 4 (across both platforms?), but I think more people play Call Of Duty online and would probably be it head-to-head next time. (I may be totally wrong). I could see something replace Resident Evil quite easily.

(That's why my anecdotes were of people who don't care about games.) Resident Evil had fallen and could easily return to that position. Grand Theft Auto might be tougher if they make it an event title, but I don't think 3 4-like games in a generation would be able to sustain enthusiasm like San Andreas did. Anyway, it's just a thought.

That's almost half as Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games did in the same timeframe!

Bad jokes aside, that is a fucking huuge success for Capcom. Here's hoping they switch things up for Resident Evil 6, I did enjoy RE5 more than I would've anticipated after being appalled by the demo, but I don't think they'll get away with those clunky controls and even clunkier inventory system for the next installment.

And the mandatory co-op didn't feel like RE at all. Good action game though, all told.
