And Leon campaign here is EXACTLY like RE2. At least the atmostphere. What the hell do you want!? Enjoy whatever you like. If you don't like. Get the fuck out! Leave us some space to talk.

And one last thing to say. This game has change direction for freakin 10 years now. It's 10 years people. Not yesterday. Where have you been? And also, Capcom is kind enough to revisit the old style with revelations. Go and fucking support that game if you want that more! You show zero support on that and complain why Capcom keep making it shooter. The hell!

Fix the camera. That's all I care about, the gameplay in demo wasn't great, but it looks like they've tweaked it, so that's cool.

They haven't fixed the camera, it's still far too close to the MC. It impacts gameplay negatively, you may not agree but it's true. Having the MC take up over 50% of the screen is goddamn crazy.
 
This video makes me so sad. I am a huge fan of RE1-3 (just finished RE2 Leon scenario yesterday btw), and RE4 was still pretty amazing although it was clearly a different kind of game. RE5 was mediocre and now RE6... :'(

RIP Resident Evil. And I'm sorry if this post is offtopic, but the video looks like soulless crap. There's zero elements left from THE good Resident Evil games. And don't get me even started about RE: ORC! Holy crap what a piece of shit...
 
So i was looking forward to Dead Space 3 but from the 20 min footage i saw it turned me off, and this game with it looks graphicly better but it's the same thing wit dead space i just hate what they did with the zombies in that IGN footage.
 
The main problem I have with the shooter stuff is that Capcom absolutely nailed the perfect marriage between classic and modern RE with their last two releases, Lost in Nightmares and Revelations.

I loved the hell out of those two, and figured that they were what the series would be like moving forward. I really don't know why they're shifting away from that with 6.

It doesn't by itself, but if the game can't maintain at least 30fps the framerate would go to 20fps to stay synchronised. Triple buffering solves that and uses a little more video memory.

Tearing might be easier to disguise on 360 (how do they get it to stay at the top of the screen in some games?) and triple buffering easier to implement on PS3. I think it's vsync on with PS3 because of a lower framerate, rather than the cause of a lower framerate. At 30fps there'd be no tearing with "soft" v-synce, otherwise it's persistent tearing.

I agree. I still have no idea to this day how people can lash out at the series but praise RE4 considering it was the one that introduced all these elements to the series to begin with, and all the praise told the team "this is okay." I'm sure the answer would be "well RE4 has good game design and no screen tearing and great controls etc. etc. etc." but the basic argument here is that "this isn't RE, it's more of a dudebro shooter now" and RE4 was the one that brought in the Rambo style gun wielding zombies on a military island base and cover mechanics.

But that was okay because Lord Mikami made it.

I also think that Revelations was a really poor attempt to take it back to its roots. It did a decent job for about the first hour. The demo they released, I felt, was not representative of the full game, which quickly became really stupid, fast paced, and not scary. It was an okay little game but not some return to glory that people seem to think.

I don't understand why people enjoy drinking delicious apple juice but turn their noses up at my bottles of piss. They're basically the same consistency, and when compared to my previous favourite beverage, water, they're more or less the same colour.

But that was ok because apple juice is "delicious".

Clever, but my argument still stands-- RE4 is the one that brought all this shit to the series whether people like it or not, and while the demo for RE6 had some technical problems like the screen tearing and such, that's apparently being worked on, and outside from that I thought it played and looked great, and had phenomenal atmosphere at least in the Leon part. Way more so than RE5.

This isn't DIRECTLY related, but a new trailer for Resident Evil Damnation was released last night. It stars Leon and... Someone, I can't identify them yet, and is supposed to be a prequel to Resident Evil 6. Ada's in it, and it sounds from the end tease that either Sherry or Ashley are in it too.

People are complaining about the elements here, about how its more about shooting and action than horror when this is all pretty much RE4's fault. I thought that stuff sucked in RE4 too because of what it was, not so much the execution.

The counter-argument seems to be that "well RE4 was a great game" and that may be so, but I don't see how that makes those elements that people are complaining about now good, or why they get a free pass in that game. People seem to be against the concept in general, at least that's what I see.

I'm not seeing "well that stuff was great in RE4!" or anything like that, but quite simply "this stuff sucks" when "this stuff" was all over RE4.

People are saying they don't like what they're seeing.
That for a RE, it looks uninspired and generic.
These are legitimate arguments, which are worth discussing, whether you find them valid or not. If this made you nagry to the point you feel the urge to punch something, maybe you should get off the internet for a while.

That's Ashley, surely? Sounded like the same voice actress even, and that's 75% of her dialogue in RE4.

In any case, it looks like a 2 hour Resident Evil cutscene, like Degeneration. I am ok with that, for a variety of reasons.

Though I wish we could get characters other than Leon and Chris starring in these things.

It's RE4's fault that 5 and 6 are filled with shooting and an emphasis on action instead of horror, yes. Like I said above the counter argument is that "RE4 did it good" but the fundamental complaint to me looks more like people complaining about the actual elements being in Resident Evil, not so much how well done they are.

I suppose the difference is that I didn't think it was good in RE4 either. I haven't liked those elements in the series to begin with, but I'm not acting like RE5/6 are the culprits here. I get the argument that you're trying to make, I just don't feel it's necessarily relevant to what I'm getting across. I get that you're saying that RE4 did have those elements but that it handles them well, and I'm saying that people seem to be complaining about those things in general, regardless of how well done they are.

well, respectfully, you're misinterpreting the general thrust of the RE6 backlash (frontlash?). If this were a game of the quality of RE4, this thread wouldn't be like it is now. RE4 threads, to this day, are evidence of that. There are far more shades of grey here than you're giving credit for. I'm analogy-man tonight, but you've apparently just said "I'm colourblind" and then tried to argue the advantages of a fine shade of red versus a shade of green with a room full of people who can tell the difference. I don't see the point.

That may be true, I just feel like the people complaining about the direction here probably didn't care so much for it in RE4 either. I mean, if everything in RE6 ends up being handled really well, is it going to make people who don't like the direction at all okay with it?

Personally, I've warmed up to it, it's not necessarily what I would have liked for the series, but the RE6 demo was really fun to me. The Chris section was the worst part, but I'll deal. I had a blast with the Jake demo. If they can fix the screen tearing and camera issues (which doesn't seem to be an issue as the options apparently weren't in the demo), I think it'll be a fine game.

I think what's happened is they took the QTEs introduced in RE4 and ran with it. The action sequences/stunts are so long that you have a hard time relating to it as RE. If you stripped it down, you would get an evolved RE4-type of gameplay.

If I want to feel scared, I would pick up Silent Hill instead. RE has always been about survival horror. It's just a little too much action in it now and has changed the overall atmosphere of the series going forth
 
Honestly I liked the tonal difference RE5 brought. I'm not saying I want nothing but that from the RE series, and I'd certainly like to see another more subdued entry after 6, but it was done well for that entry. It wasn't survival horror, no, but the stop-and-shoot gameplay and relentless, high-damage-dealing enemies gave the game a really tactical feel, especially in co-op. Doing it all in one play-through with a buddy next to me a crate of beers is one of my favourite gaming experiences this gen.

However, like with RE4, the opening areas were the best. The shanty-town seige in the beginning with the executioner... oh man, that one was so tense and "oh shit oh shit oh shit oh fuck" etc.

I haven't played the RE6 demo or seen much footage, so maybe I can't talk much at all, but so much of RE6 dislike seems to be much the same as RE5 dislike, which I never understood when it came from RE4 fans. RE5 was just like 4, just with different pace and tone. Less looming tension, more reactive tension, and the co-op certainly mixed it up, but still much the same.

And as I said, RE3 was pretty much a straight shooting game as well.

I like how each entry in the series has its own flavour, tone and pacing. I don't want to play the same game over and over.

I looked at the trailer just now and I am wondering the same thing... and I am not in the "old school RE is dead" camp, I like old and new but this...

if I didn't know it was RE6, I'd think this is a Gears of War spin-off or some military multiplayer tactical shooter...

I guess capcom isn't done sucking those precious dollars out of the COD crowd after Operation Racoon City.. sad.
 
5 was great, provided you played it in co-op. It was a terrible single player experience though, and considering that the whole series had been purely single-player focused, I assume that the majority of people did their first playthrough solo like I did.

Best co-op game this generation.
Terrible followup to the best single-player game of the previous generation.

But then I wouldn't judge Zelda: Four Swords or FF: Crystal Chronicles by singleplayer either, you know? Game was obviously built and intended for co-op; best play it that way.

Im so sad we are not going to get a game like Revelations ever again :(
But then I hope that if Zombi U is as good as it seems right now, people that want a more horro feel for RE buy it so we can have more of those types of games.

but nintendo or SE didn't use those game as main entries in the series. RE5 being the way it was meant no new RE for me since around february 2005, when I bought RE4. (still gotta try revelations, I guess)

in fact RE5 being so co-op oriented is what made me avoid re5 alltogether, it's worse than a game being military or too combat focused. As long as RE6 is a solid, maybe even great single player experience*, I might give it a chance.

Yes and no. On one hand, the game does have a co-op focus like RE5... Buuuuut it also seems if you're playing alone your partners take a very off-hand approach. They don't steal your items, and I'm pretty sure they can't die and have infinite ammo, but never really do much to help you except when required. This is going by what I've seen/played.

Yeah I agree with that, the game is definitely designed as a co-op game, so you should play it that way to get the proper experience.

If a mainline RE game should have had mandatory co-op is a whole different argument... but if you roll with it, it's awesome.
 
What the hell, this game is like a clunky co-op third person shooter.


I mean, this game looks like it would be somewhat decent if it were called anything else other than RE, like, Gears of War: Zombie Edition.
 
lol all this hate before the game is even out is really irritating.

What would you have them do? You can't be saying you want them to keep using static backgrounds and camera angles. If that's the only way you can be scared then that's not really amazing. The characters should be able to see what's in front of them. So they should know what's there. The old games were using that as a device for the scares because it wouldn't be scary if you could, like in real life, see where you are facing. You had limited control, too. And I always thought to myself, "If I were in this situation, I would beat the crap out of the zombies and save my ammo for something that actually needs it. Granted, I probably wouldn't fight more than one zombie at a time if they were fast. The ammo was only really limited in the first game. And even in that I could come out at the end of the game with a crap ton of magnum shells for the end.

The atmosphere of the first game was creepy because it was in a mansion. The reason the 2nd and 3rd games were scary was because the place was overrun with zombies and other BOWs.

Like I keep saying, I'm pretty sure this crap was gonna happen anyway, because they were doing experiments to make the best biological weapons they could and sell them off. They weren't trying to make plain old zombies. They wanted creations they could control (like Wesker wanting to control the Tyrant). The threats were always gonna evolve and escalate. There'd be no way they could take these things on if they stuck with the unrealistic limitations of the first few games. The added actions in RE6 make the characters more realistic because you could do that in real life. Why would you wanna run up to a car and be like "well, I know it's only up to my mid-section, but I can't climb it cuz...I dunno" and walk around it when you could jump and slide over it?

I'm all for hearing different sides of view, but it sounds like people aren't really thinking about what possible reasoning they could have behind the evolution of the series besides writing it off as Gears of War and Call of Duty. You don't hear Leon saying "HELL YEAH, HELENA! THAT WAS A ****'N NICE SHOT! GIVE ME A HIGH-FIVE!" Nope. Never happens. And you're not in first person running around shooting soldiers and only soldiers.

And Slant Six made RE: ORC. Remember that.
 
Why ain't Paul Mercier doing the voice over for Leon? The pisses me off above everything else. As far as I can see he will be back and do the voice over of Leon for RE Damnation, so why isn't he doing it in RE6? *argh*

Maybe he was busy at the time it was being recorded? I dunno. The guy doing him in RE6 sounds pretty close to me though.

Capcom also publicly - accidentally I'm sure - announced that the voice actor and motion capture actor for Ada Wong will be the same for Carla Radames, on their blog. That just confirms the old rumour that appeared a few months ago. I also say accidentally because Carla was never officially announced thus far, though her name was seen (and a picture, as a blonde) in one of the previous trailers. Still, Capcom have now publicly mentioned her.

Also, the ESRB revealed their reasoning behind their rating for the game:

This is a third-person shooter in which players assume the role of characters caught up in a worldwide viral outbreak. As players navigate intersecting storylines, they use machine guns, shotguns, melee weapons, and explosives to kill mutated zombie creatures in frenetic combat. Battles contain realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and exaggerated blood splatter effects; some attacks result in dismemberment or decapitation (e.g., slowly inserting a monster's body into a rotating fan blade). Cutscenes also depict intense acts of violence: a zombie getting stabbed in the head; characters getting pummeled/impaled by monsters.
One female boss character (a human-spider hybrid) is depicted nude—though without any discernible details (i.e., no nipples or genitalia); during one attack move, she briefly caresses her breasts while straddling on players' character. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” can be heard in the dialogue.

Well if it didn't look like clunky Gears, or clunky Uncharted it wouldn't be getting those comparisons, would it? People constantly saying "Well blame RE4 for all the explosions and shootbangs" are doing a massive disservice to the design and tone of most of the encounters in RE4. It was still a fairly slow, very precise game that retains its identity to this day. RE6 on the other hand just looks like a knock off action game designed by committee to check off every box on the "Current Gen Action Shooter" checklist without a voice of it's own. Of course the natural response to this will be "Well we haven't seen the whole game yet" and that's true, but all anyone has to go on right now is what Capcom has shown.
