Resident Evil 6 - Comic-Con Demo Footage

Damn. The Chris sections could be easily mistaken for a Gears of War clone.

What have you done, Capcom.

Also, I feel that I watched so much stuff online that I don't even need to play the game.

I'm quite happy that we're fighting a new generation Yawn as Chris. Should be a fun fight. I miss fighting mutated animals. Dogs don't count as they've become shitty bullet sponges in the series.

That Leon scene was cool. Pinning the President's death on Leon by the NSA is just a dick move though. :lol

I can't watch the Chris demo just yet, but did they demo any of those enemies that pull you out of cover? I was more than a little disappointed that they weren't in the playable demo.

Does Chris still take up more than 75% of the screen? Guess any hope or expectation of them moving the camera back is just a pipe dream/unrealistic. :/

I've not sat down and tallied it all up, but I'd estimate that everything we've seen so far totals probably an hour tops (if even that)...not much for a 20+ hour game.

...so maybe that doesn't apply to those who seriously think Resident Evil was ever about zombies (you know, the "generic" romero zombies that were the series' goombas until you reached the actual threats).

The zombies were pretty challenging if you were out of ammo and they crowded you in some narrow space. Or if you tried to beat the game just with a knife and without saving :D

I am here for reimagined throwbacks to classic Resident Evil bosses.

ALLIGATORS please. =P

I don't remember out of cover. But yeah, takes a lot of the screen.

People still believe this gonna be 20+ hours? lol

Also, this doesn't mean much if you spend hours in low variaty envirolments. You can spend 3 hours in this snowy Chris's stage, for example.

The main campaign for all three is probably not even going to be close to 20 hours.

Moreover, Capcom has always had the issue of showing way too much for their games either in gameplay or in the story department. Everything we were shown about DMC4 and RE5 were especially notorious for this.

The main campaign for all three is probably not even going to be close to 20 hours.

Capcom estimates that each campaign is approximately 70-80% the length of RE5. On normal difficulty, RE5 took me about 12 hours...so that's approximately 8 hours for each campaign. Of course the length of any game is going to depend on the skill of the player and the difficulty setting they choose. I tend to take my time with games; so as they say, "your mileage may vary."

Moreover, Capcom has always had the issue of showing way too much for their games either in gameplay or in the story department. Everything we were shown about DMC4 and RE5 were especially notorious for this.

I'll agree that they sometimes reveal too much (RE5 is a good case in point). But I understand their perspective; with development costs for games running into the millions, Capcom and other companies have to market and plan wide exposure for their games in order to recoup costs and post a profit. Most people simply won't buy a game without knowing something about it and so they have to hook us somehow...as a consequence we are inevitably inundated with information. Even Nintendo, as tight lipped as they are sometimes, has a tendency to spoil games before release - with Skyward Sword, trailers and art work revealed every single boss in the game (even the final boss!) well before the game was released. Disappointing? Yes. But as gamers who spend a lot of time on gaming sites and boards like this, we should probably be prepared to hear and see a lot more than we would like to know....goes with the territory I guess.

Yep, I'm not looking at anything else from now on. I already know I'm getting the game, so I wanna enjoy it when it arrives.

It was hard to take this post seriously, because that sentence is so throwaway. Couldn't I just say "No man, RE5 totally had those levels of thought-out design and polish"? I actually don't know why you think RE5 wasn't polished, but then again, you could mean so many things.

And you want me to explain what exactly? How they are similar? RE5 takes a bunch of things from RE4 and just adds new stuff, mainly in the area of cooperative play (which was noticeably more advanced then what you get most games where it usually just feels tacked on, e.g. Gears of War and Halo(outside vehicle combat maybe). The controls, how enemies work, and, probably most importantly, the hybrid combat of shooting and melee is all there and represented (improved even). The level design didn't diverge as much either.

There is a lot of room to argue which of the two execute the formula best (most will say RE4) and whether you like the multiplayer aspect of 5 or not. However often enough I see people who won't admit to that and that this the issue is fundamentally solved and obvious: black and white or shit and gold. These games are shockingly similar to the point that RE5 can't be any less of a mediocre game hurt by a few things at worst or else you'd have to admit RE4 is something less than a great one. A fairly simple conversation turns into a madhouse because how ravenous people get in this shit-flinging contest. The issue gets confused when people bring time into with the idea that "oh RE was okay before Gears/Uncharted, but now things are different". Which is fine for some people, but at the same time I get the feeling most of these same guys think RE4 is a great game today.

Resident Evil 4 had better item management. Also, there were more possibilities to upgrade weapons. Also small things like the possibility to combine jewels/treasures to make them worth more didn't return in RE5. The enemies, I think, are also more memorable in RE4 and there were really fun and challenging ways to defeat them, while in RE5 it came down to shooting the critical points.

I finished my second playthrough of RE5 two days ago and it's just different compared to 4. I think RE5 isn't necessarily 'better' than RE4. I like RE4 more though.

I watched the Comic-Con footage from Jake and Chris, and I gotta say I really liked it. The gameplay looks pretty good and the boss battle was awesome.

Wish I could play it myself though.

I don't want to see them ever again either, though to be quite honest I do like them.

I want to see more Barry, Billy and Rebecca. I doubt we ever will though. I don't care as much about Barry and Rebecca as I do about Billy.

Seems like a missed opportunity with him =(

If Jill had been in this as Chris' partner I would be ok if they never returned again(and they are my two favorites).
now if Jill is in RE7 im going to be asking whats up with Chris.

I understand the distress over Resident Evil losing its genre but frankly... While I'd love to have a slow paced game that pays homage to the originals, Im okay with this new action 3rd person shooter style...

This is why...

What people forget about RE is that the majority characters we play as have already experienced this nightmare before... The first games really had a great way of making you feel powerless.... Like you had no way of escaping a living hell let alone believing it was actually happening.

I mean shit... Look at what Leon went through in RE2 on HIS FIRST DAY ON THE JOB. Seeing these characters have experience in these events helps me believe why the game should play faster now.

Why would anyone be afraid or cautious of a Zombie if they killed something scarier and more dangerous in previous games? If anything, I know what Im up against now.. So Im gonna run up, kick the damn thing in the face, turn around and pop two more in the head... The civilians can freeze up in fear and get chewed up for all I care lol.

Leon has been through a ton of shit by now, Chris has been in some shit too... So I expect them to not be phased and to be less worried about survival... And more about completing this mission to stop the outbreak. Gotta do what you gotta do...

Depressive Chris is already getting on my nerve.

And yeah, Capcom always show way too much of their game before release. If you also follow the spoiler thread, you can see that we already have seen many areas from all of the Chapters in the game.

Look at all that serious talk and angst in those clips.

Why isn't Leon making awesome one liners and suplexing people? :(

The games returned to their seriousness with 5 and Revelations. And by serious I mean serious dialogue wise. After all one game had magical flowers fromm which you could extract a virus that kills 99.999% of the world or give the rest mystical matrix powers while the other one had a plot revolving around a terrorist organization and a super magic satellite that shoots solar beams.

Capcom are having a senior moment, perhaps?

To be fair it's not like 0,1,2,3 and CV had many one liners either (CV had some regarding Alfred but that's pretty much it). RE4 seems to be the odd one in that regard.

Moreover the tagline for 6 was "No Hope Left" for a while and it seems they are trying to play the fallen heroes card with Chris, Helena and Ada so I don't expect it to have much snarky replies outside of drunk Chris or the bitching when they all meet each others and disagree on the course of actions to take. Anyway from the demo and trailer we know that Leon
kills zombie president which was also his friend
so I doubt he's in the mood for jokes

This goes very well with my arguments and how I feel about the series and why it has gotten to where it has.
Sucks that the character development he had at the end of 5 is just thrown away, and we have to deal with a worse version of his RE5 attitude.
I liked confidant Chris we just had in Revelations.

Yeah. They better have a good reason for him acting all messed up and like he got amnesia. What could've happened between 5 and 6 that caused him to be like that?

I have yet to play the demo but I liked more or less what I'm seeing. There's still that feeling of something being off with animations, but the combat possibilities are great, there seem to be a lot of enemies and different variations.

Yeah artstyle is just a mix of every dudebro shooter out there. it feels really lifeless except maybe Leon section which actually fails to build any real tension. But there's definetly potential in the combat and mercenaries mode could be great.

I'm still optimistic about this. Yeah, I wish we had a old style RE but let's face it: it's dead since years ago.

Look at all that serious talk and angst in those clips.

Because Capcom writers killed RE4 Leon, they started on Degeneration and they'll do the last stab on RE6.

Yeah. They better have a good reason for him acting all messed up and like he got amnesia. What could've happened between 5 and 6 that caused him to be like that?

Seems like he lost most of he's BSAA teammates because of Ada in some mission

All gathered from trailers and the demo introduccion of Chris...yeah, Capcom always show to much.

I was liking depressed chris when I played the demo.
But thinking about it, him getting that depressed over the loss of his squad seems a bit much. Yeah it should factor in but considering how the character has been up to this point, it is a little odd.

Meh....I really want to like this game, but all of those clips just bored me. I think it comes down to franchise fatigue.

Capcom are completely out of ideas at this point and I feel like this shouldn’t even exist. It feels really unnecessary.

Why do they keep introducing random throw away characters/partners in these games but never reintroducing them again?

Barry
Carlos
Billy
Rebecca
Steve *they made it a point that he maybe alive.

They keep introducing these people without any follow up. I would love to see a game where Jill Claire Chris Leon are finally in together...

I wanna Barry & Jill re-encounter. When I first played RE (centuries ago) they seemed much more "partners" than Jill & Chris. Also, Barry is a older guy, I think him and Jill would make an wonderful "fuck shit up buddies", something like Drake & Sully. Clever jokes, more emotional moments, each one "completing" each other, etc. I just get this cool vibe from seeing them in REmake.

EXACTLY
I have been saying this everytime a new game is released.
Capcom you are sitting on a huge mound of characters that no one even knows what the hell they're up to at this point. If you really want a lot of fan anticipation, i'd say the next game should be real big on bringing back the entire cast in some way or another.

I know that would get me certainly excited.
Especially as it was mentioned a Barry and Jill reunion.
RE is honestly in need of a MGS4 type bring everyone in, in some way shape or form.
With how the marketing for RE6 has been is it me, or does it feel like Capcom is trying to bring the series to a close for a reboot or perhaps a new series in the same canon.

This is the latest version of the game, and you can see how we’ve pulled the character out of the way now, so when you’re aiming you can still clearly see what you’re trying to shoot.” the producer stated.

Hirabayashi went on to tell Destructoid that not only can the camera speed be adjusted–as it can be in the current demo–but the team is adding the option for players to choose the angle of their cameras. This is something I heaven’t really seen before but the customization option is welcome.

Good to see they're fixing the glaring issues.

Regardless of what people say, it's nice to see so much of the feedback from fans being implemented as newer builds are shown.

Cannot wait, bring on OCTOBER

Indeed, the demo did more of a Beta's job, but it's good that fan feedback is being considered and implemented so quickly.

Fixed my biggest issue, so looks like i'll be good to go in loving this game.

Same. The camera and stuff was the only thing really getting int he way for me. And though I'm getting the PS3 version, I'm glad to see the 360 version is getting the screen-tear issue out of the way.

Using the Destructoid screenshot I've made a comparison of the camera placement. Dramatic improvement.

I'm so pleased with this. lol. I have no idea why they thought the demo camera was a good idea. It felt like you were a kid hiding behind the character like "get'em! shoot dem zombehz!"

This is closer to how it was in RE4/5. =)

^ While it looks better, that screen is from the batch released at E3, they're not from the Comic Con build of the game.

So I'm assuming the new camera is even more pulled back and much more closer to RE4/5.

Anyone wanna take shots from the gameplay demo videos out of CC ?

We finally got Sherry back after 14 years. This could have been the definitive Resident Evil(story, character wise) if we didn't have filler characters that nobody cares about.

Leon & Ada or Claire
Chris & Jill
Would have satisfied everyone.

Just freakn show a second of Rebecca & Barry sitting at the BSAA HQ.
and people would be satisfied.
