It's kinda moot at this point but some game news sites will have demo impressions posted starting at 8AM PST today. Capcom gave us the demo in disc form last week (playable on 360 debug). IGN, DToid, Joystiq, Gamespot etc should have some impressions soon.

I can see the impressions being rather negative across the board.

Seem to get a dirty disc error with the usb files when playing Leon's campaign. Chris' worked fine though.

The FOV in this game is horrendous. Maybe the other campaigns will be better.

I think the "regenerating health" is really overstated considering how many squares there are. Sounds like the sort of false information will follow the game to its grave.

Hope Capcom are listening loud and clear and programmers ready to sort shit out. Unresponsive enemies and regenerating health has to go.
I don't mind the regenerative health blocks (you still need to use herbs and whatnot to heal your entire bar) but I agree on the unresponsive enemies. Working on the controls/camera would be a good thing too.

Put this on your xbox360 usb stick

Folder structure needed

content/0000000000000000/4343882D/00080000/60CBBE264CC205195AD91592D44756A2B3BD2C2343

Use modio/horizon/360revolution or usb xtaf gui.

Horizon is probably the easiest since you don't need to know anything about the folder structure stuff and just put it inside the demo folder.
Nice, just what I was waiting for - thanks man.

How does the regen actually work, is it just a single block or possible to hide behind a crate and regen everything? If it's the former I'm not too fussed about that.

Well this was a piece of shit, as expected. From the elegant design of RE4 to this...

I don't understand how a game as massive as this can have such crude animations, camera, AI and feel so awkward to play. Combat is totally unsatisfying, and as that's now the focus of this franchise, that's unacceptable. I bet Mikami is pissing himself at some of the shit on show.

Resident Evil 4 felt more visceral and is a 7 year old GameCube game.

I'll just wait and play the demo when it releases in September. Pretty sure I will enjoy it for what it is, but will be going in not expecting a traditional horror game.

For those wanting something a bit more traditional, all I can say is go pick up a copy of Silent Hill: Downpour. So refreshing to have to explore and use your head while feeling absolutely oppressed. Sure, it has some technical quibbles here and there, but the experience is pure old school survival horror. A rare gem these days.

So does Horizon automatically format the stick for the 360?

You only regenerate a single block. So if you have 7 blocks and only 2 and a half are full, you will automatically go back to 3 full blocks. To get the other 4 back, you will need to use healing items. So yeah, it's not full regen. THAT would be criminal. :p

Yeah the health regen is not a big deal. Chris has 6 bars to go through.

The aiming and overall controls however are pretty janky. The cover system breaks if you're aiming at someone to the far left or right of you.

Was the camera always so close in RE5? Maybe I've just grown too picky. I hated how close the camera was in the two Arkham games as well.

I don't understand the problems with regen. At harder difficulty levels, regening half a block of health won't do shit for your survivability. It would only help at the easiest difficulty which is probably the point and I have no problem with.

Alright, so my impressions. I have played each scenario four times, twice with a single partner as both characters, once in single player, once with a random. I have to say, some people are painting a worse picture than it actually is. A lot of 'issues' people are having I can tell you right now is because they haven't properly adjusted the game settings for them and in general haven't gotten over the learning curve. The game is actually a lot different than I was expecting, both for the better and the worse.

First of all, the game is really different from RE4 and RE5. I think I need to highlight this point since I came in expecting essentially RE4 or RE5, but it ended up being a lot more different than I anticipated. I'll get into why in a bit but I need to touch on something.

The controls are better than RE4 and RE5, they just take some customizing and adjusting. At first, I didn't like them at all. They felt too janky and floaty to me. However, I soon found that the controls are extremely customizable on the main menu. Adjusting camera and aiming speed, switch around some options on how you point your gun and learning what all the buttons do (there are actually a lot of things you need to learn) helped to make my experience with the game much more enjoyable and actually controlled rather solidly after which. I can guarantee you most people who are complaining about controls haven't played enough or adjusted them for themselves properly. I had several people tell me how the controls sucked, but when I played with them and taught and showed them things, their opinions did a 180.

The campaigns actually feel really different. I was expecting them to only feel a tad so, but they legitimately don't feel the same to each other. Leon's is a slower-paced atmospheric campaign with less supplies and more focused on survival. Chris's campaign is combat-focused, much more fast-paced and essentially feels like Resident Evil 5 but with a lot of improvements. Jake is different, but I actually found his demo to be the most enjoyable and splits between slower-paced exploration and more tense scenes. One problem I had was that the demo seems to be on Easy difficulty setting, and you cannot change it.

Leon's demo unfortunately is a bit hard to replay as you mainly just explore a fairly linear environment, escorting the dad and his daughter isn't really fun, and nothing really happens until the end. One or two jump scares did get me though. This was actually my least favorite demo, but I could see the finished product being my favorite campaign. It should be noted me and my online partner ran out of ammo before we killed all the zombies in the first room of enemies.

Chris's demo was honestly a lot more fun than I was anticipating. I was prepared to hate it, but it actually was a lot of fun. Not scary, but fun. One thing that is going to piss off a lot of people, there's a melee button now and as Chris I could literally punch the hell out of enemies. I was laughing about it at first but it actually was pretty fun and with tougher enemies or swarms you can't be mindless about it. I also am assuming since the demo seems to be set to easy mode it'll be harder to pummel enemies on harder difficulties. Lots of changes in combat scenarios that kept things interesting, and the added depth to combat, better enemy AI and the enemies 'transforming', as well as a better designed area in my opinion, lead to a pretty good time once we came to terms that this was essentially combat focused. Both me and my partner ended up actually having a lot of fun.

Jake's demo is short, but my partner and I found it the most fun. Good variety and change of pace that was pretty fun. The start was a bit of a hurdle as you have to figure out what to do quickly or you die, but after you understand and get into it I did like exploring the building and fighting the mini-boss. There's al ot more I want to say but I think it's best below.

Some things to note:

-Blue Medallions are back: At least found one in Jake's scenario.

-Popping Pills: Green+Red herbs make pills. You press RB to pop pills. Either once for a single pill, or press it a few times in succession to pop a few to heal. The dying animation and execution in this is much better than RE5.

-Sliding is actually pretty fun. It isn't overpowered either, but can be helpful and actually a welcome addition.

-I never thought I'd say this, but the melee combat is actually a bit of fun once you can come to terms with it even existing and get the hang of it. Jake has a deeper version of melee, where he can choose 'hand-to-hand' for his weapon slot. Sherry has a Stun Rod which works differently but essentially her hand-to-hand combat. I do hope melee is nerfed more on harder difficulties though.

-This game is going to polarize people: It is a better game than RE5, I have no doubt in my mind about that. But it's very different and I think some may come to embrace the change and find the game is fun, and others will hate it.

It is less cliched third person shooter than I was expecting... But it still needs a lot of polish. I hope the next half a year deals with that. The problems I had with it after some time with it come from mostly a few lack of polish issues and simply what the game is, as a Resident Evil game. It does a lot of things that sound really stupid on paper. But while I at first hated to admit it, what sounds terrible on paper was actually a lot of fun in execution in my experience. The game has a strange learning curve and I found the more I played it, the more I liked the game. At first I will be honest, I didn't like it at all. I was sort of mortified with my initial impressions. But when I actually started to understand what I was doing as well as accepting it, I actually started having a lot of fun.

This game is going to polarizing, and I expect GAF to be all over about it with a big sense of hate since of what it is and that learning curve, but I am coming with it both thinking it is better and worse than I was expecting. Better in execution and how fun it is, worse in concept and polish (though it is a demo).

Sounds like they tried to shoehorn a cover system into a game that is not built for it, nor needs it. I'm sure I will still enjoy myself playing, but don't think it really belongs in RE.

not bad at all. AI Sheva can escape all QTEs automatically and she had no trouble dodging Wesker in the hangar fight. Well, in my game she was ace. I've heard horror stories from other people but I had no issues.
on PROFESSIONAL?
And without some unlimited ammo cheat?

Just the Jill + Wesker fight made me go nuts on single player (professional difficulty of course). With a human player, that knows what he is doing, the fight is totally awesome. But with the braindead Sheva AI, omg.

I played it at E3, frankly thought it was horrible.
Which sucks cause Revelations proves that Capcom could still propose an astonishing Resident Evil experience.

I'm watching videos and goddamn, there IS a lot of screen tear. I'd rather have a smooth response than low framerate though, so I'm hoping the port doesn't go crazy with Vsync and finds some balance in between.

She was a great AI. People always bitch but I was totally impressed! She revived me once five times in a row! I saw her shoot out air conditioners to electrify enemies! She was always good to go. Never any real problems. You just have to give her the weapons that suit her best and she is a beast.

I finished the game solo on all difficulties.

Thanks for the videos and the detailed impressions. But are you sure it's not a little premature to declare RE6 a better game than 5 based on a demo? RE5 was definitely disappointing but I dunno.

Do I open the RAR files and then put them on the stick or leave them as is ?
you need winrar or 7zip installed. right click on part 1 and extract all. You'll end up with a bunch of folders. Open those folders until you get to "60CBBE264CC205195AD91592D44756A2B3BD2C2343" file and drag that into horizon. Then save to USB device.

In longterm? Yes, but I say this since the one segment as Chris I played was more fun than I had during essentially all of RE5. And I actually liked RE5, though not as good as RE4. RE6 is different, but all the added things are actually a lot of fun and add a lot more to combat, and the enemies are more 'fun' as well. Also chris's story was surprisingly entertaining and interesting, despite being different.

you need winrar or 7zip installed. right click on part 1 and extract all. You'll end up with a bunch of folders. Open those folders until you get to "60CBBE264CC205195AD91592D44756A2B3BD2C2343" file and drag that into horizon. Then save to USB device.
Yeah I got that, it's been awhile since I've done this. The RE5 demo, actually. So just part 1? or do i do that for all of the rars?

Thank you for this, grabbed them all before they get taken down.

Defintely not using this on my main 360 console. My banned console is totally ready for RE6 though lol.

You think this might be bannable?

They've never banned for demos like this before, but this one is locked behind a Dragon's Dogma pay gate...I think I'll wait out a little bit before risking a 7 year account with a ton of games and xbla points.

Gears 3 and BF3 beta were behind pay walls at first, no one got banned.

If it is bannable I wonder what the circumstances would be if you have an RE6 download key from previously owning DD.

Yeah well, not to be a pessimist but things can go downhill fast. I remember that feeling in RE5. Anyway, RE6's combat sounds a little better based on your impressions (in stark contrast to the janky videos) so at least I'm more hopeful now about the entire thing; wish I could play it for myself but impressions like these will do. Also wish there was more to Leon's campaign as it's the one I'm most interested in.

Don't go online and sign out with your XBL account if you can = 100% safe. Trust me. ;-)
