Resident Evil 6 DEMO VER. Thread: Capcom's final chance for redemption

game's absolutely awful, it's embarassing. I Fully expect sub 5.0 range reviews to be coming in.

RE4 stands as my favorite game of all time, and after how disappointing RE5 was I was really hoping for Leon to come back and knock it out of the park... well, this is a rushed hackjob. Hideous visauls, budget shooter ADHD gameplay, awful menus and controls, broken camera, sheeeesh.

Good luck Capcom.

Not to derail the topic, but I think it would be really cool if they revealed that Chris was gay. Not make any sort of big deal about it, but just reference it like it was common knowledge.

He already has a huge gay following too.
I feel like I agree with everything you say. <3

A guy like Chris? Nah. He also never flirt with her (unlike Barry) or anything like that. Also see: Leon S. Kennedy. He clearly makes his interest in Ada Wong fucking obvious while he has ZERO interest in Claire.

Maybe he's just a shy guy. Or gay. That would be a really nice twist.

I doubt Chris would be gay, but he would easily be the biggest named gay character if he was wouldn't he?

Granted Link has a crazy huge following but the only gay character I can think of is that repuslive douche in Enchanted Arms.

My 2 cents:

(Leon)

-Removal of the run button feels weird, like Leon has no weight to him.

-Graphics don't impress me like RE5 did anymore, but they're still nice.

-Melee is a little too easy now, but I like the stamina meter so you can't abuse it. The dynamic camera (?) for finishing moves are a little disorienting

-Waypoint and pickup prompts are helpful

-I hate the ugly blur on Leon when you're shooting

-Those 'dead-bodies-that-jump-when-you-go-near-them' are getting old. Why can't I shoot them from afar if I know they're going to jump at me? I know you can do this in RE5...

In fact the whole thing felt kinda stale to me. It's still RE6, so it's a must-buy, but I hope the game has a lot more to offer.

Oh yeah - it's rated for nudity? What??

Man, I got some insane amount of flickering along with some weird graphic issues. I was afraid my PS3 would give out so I quit the demo right away. Not sure if it was my PS3's gpu dying or the demo having technical problems.

I liked what I played of the Leon section but didn't really like the Chris and Jake parts, they should have really just focused on one and made the game around that.

I don't mind Jake's part, but that's how I feel.

*Cuts off Hud*
*Presses bumper to see bullet count*
*Spots a huge ass waypoint and arrow on screen*

Why on earth does anyone need a waypoint in this linear ass demo? There needs to be an option to turn it off and leave the hud on.

First thing I wanna say is I really don't understand the hate for Resident Evil 5. I always enjoyed that game, and feel like I'd rather be playing that instead of the RE6 demo every time.

I'm one of those people who never really minded the controls in RE4. My brain is used to the one analog stick way of playing that game, that whenever I've played RE5, I've always switched my controls to RE4 style. I just feel like it's a series that doesn't need dual analog.

I still can't stand that it's not an option to play with a single analog in RE6, because it makes this game feel completely unfamiliar to me. That isn't the only problem though. There have been a lot of interface changes that I just can't get used to what button does what still.

My biggest problem though is what the fuck is up with the camera? I had hoped the Dragon's Dogma demo was an early build, and that this new demo would address some issues but this new demo...everything still feels too close. Your character takes up 1/3 of the screen, and because it's so close I feel like I have no awareness of my surroundings. This was NEVER an issue for me in RE4 or RE5. How can they fuck this up?

The aiming is also terrible. I feel like where I am, the shot is not lining up with where I'm trying to shoot. In the heat of battle, I'd miss a shot occasionally in RE5, but I loved that had some precision and that shots went where I aimed them...Here, I felt like I was constantly trying to aim for the head, and it would not hit. Really sucked in the Leon part where ammo was more limited.

I'm really not feeling what I've seen of the story also. I need more cheesiness. That's part of what makes RE appealing to me. I'm not saying I need a Jill sandwich, but less over dramatic bull shit, and just more horror, and cheesy lines.

Probably naked zombies.

Wow I'm almost at a loss for words. I played the Leon level first and thought it was ok, but the Chris/Jake levels play like some D tier cover shooter. It's crazy there's a one second delay from when you hit reload to the game actually reloading. Then there's the bad camera, the bad cover system, and the fact that you can just run past the enemies to the next checkpoint. Believe it or not Operation Raccoon City plays better then this game.

Perhaps those skill point things are there to discourage running away from fights.

I played the Leon demo once with each character and I liked it. The pistol is really great. I also like the new control things like when you hit a wall and you can move the camera. Sliding over surfaces is cool too. The audio is nice as well. I'll have to see.

That last cutscene was really janky.

Played the PS3 version specifically Jake's part and it's pitch black! I turned the brightness up and it still didn't help. I want to like Chris's part...I do! The mindless shooting mixed with the terrible camera and controls. Bold statement I know but sometimes the game to me is not just unplayable but not fun trying to doge those porcupine dog whatever they are in Jake's demo.

I played all three campaign demos on the 360 and Leon is still the best.

And yes I hope Chris is gay. I always wrote my fan fiction that he and Barry hooked up.

Gave the demo another shot. Did some more sliding, and tried out the quick shot.

It feels better, but I'm still not very enthusiastic about it. The way crowd control works in RE6 is very different from RE4, but I still have the impression that there are too many strange control archaisms between what I want to do and how I have to do it. I don't feel comfortable dodging in this game, and the stamina meter doesn't stop you from being able to melee over and over, unless you're really in a crowd.

I can now imagine the final game being good, but the demo encounters don't sell me on it at all.

Yeah I saw no tearing at all on 360.

But wow, ps3 never even hitting 30 fps?

this analysis it's completely illogic to me, it just take a bunch of second from the starting session of Chris, is not an average of the whole level. fps it's pretty specular from both version from what I see, just derail for different reason in different situation. I'm not expecting great differences, just like DD. Maybe a sligh advantage of 360 but just relative.

Played the Leon scenario. There is a lot of QTE's. Did it to conserve ammo, but didn't pay attention to my stamina meter. Did the thumbs up. Just how I remember it from the Conan review. LOL.
Will give Chris and Jake's scenario a shot.

Just finished playing the demo with a buddy and I had fun.

The fov is a bit narrow, and camera too close are my biggest complaints along with other little issues. Graphics look great IMO. Looks and runs decently on the triple other than the vsync messing with my aiming a bit.

Still buying this day 1 and will double dip on the PC version. I'm already getting the hang of the dodge and roll moves.

Demo was complete trash, I enjoyed RE5 but this was terrible.
Everything about this is bad the shooting, the QTE's, the way zombies move and react, not being able to shoot enemies until the game decided they would wake up and the camera that made me feel like I was looking down a telescope.

The Chris section was particularly bad, like I was playing some shitty budget 3rd person shooter.

So my impressions -
Leon : best of the bunch, although I didn't like the ui (and why does it not pause when you want to change controls or brightness). This is the closest to what I consider to be resident evil, but I think revelations had it best. Also kicking zombies in the face breaks the immersion for me. That quick time event at the end was hilarious, press r1 for leon to drive (I was moving the analog stick for about 20 seconds not sure if I could drive)

Chris : well it started out with an armoured convoy, with chris awkwardly standing in the turret, coming under machine gun and rocket attack. Definitely not resident evil. Literally zero survival horror in this bit, with plenty of health and plenty of bullets. Also why was the camera so close to chris' back? This section kinda reminded me of mgs4 as well, the soldiers looked like PMC, the armored cars and radio calls saying no reinforcements at this moment, but i digress.

Jake : played 2 minutes of this one, not sure if I was burnt out on the chris section. I just wasnt feeling this section at all.

In related news I started playing re2 as it was on sale on the store, and man, the difference between Leon in that game (what's wrong with that guy that was a clean hit), and in re6 (super karate secret agent) is mind blowing.

Played the 360 public demo. Tearing is fixed, good work Capcom. However the game itself seems to be what happens when a Japanese dev sees Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops as the pinnacle of western game design. Shoot, kick stomp, repeat, QTE, shoot, kick... it all feels so very boring. The game has terrific production values, but most of they time they're obscured by Chris's shoulders. Awkward movement, overcomplicated controls, unsatisfying shooting, an ugly as fuck HUD interface capped off by the aforementioned way too close camera and enough Quick Time Events to make Asura's Wrath blush combine to make RE6 feel like an absolute train wreck. In terms of sales I anticipate it will be one of the biggest hits of the year.

I really do see this game reviewing like Dragons Dogma.
Where there are scores at just about every spectrum, unsure if it'll have the Gaf community in love with it though.

Regardless im getting it and I know i'll enjoy it.

Though from a lot of comments, capcom should work on doing more stuff like Revelations.
I think a HD Outbreak 1 and 2 with online back would be a step in the right direction.

Man, this is like the Heaven's Gate of video games.

I really have nothing to add to what other people have said - way too dark (and I turned the brightness higher than what they recommended), impossible to tell what is going on thanks to the camera and level layouts, general janky feel to everything...I didn't like RE5 but it felt like RE4, only worse, this just feels like a random bad third person shooter.

I suspect that this will not do as well as they expected and after it fails we'll hear a lot about a change in development strategy. Something appears to have gone really wrong here.

Another frame rate comparison (Chris's stage)
http://ps360.ldblog.jp/archives/53792519.html

360 Avg:28.588fps Min-Max:25.5 - 30.0fps --- Tear:0.000%(0.000%)
PS3 Avg:25.353fps Min-Max:22.5 - 28.0fps --- Tear:0.000%(0.000%)

God DAMN Capcom did a good job turning the 360 version around from the DD demo.

Stunning. I came here to mention zero tearing in the 360 demo, even outputing/scaling1080p, which was a bug in RE5. Tripple buffering.

I've played the Leon campaign demo so far and I like it. Movement is better than 5 at least.

I wonder what kind of audience they're trying to aim at here. The controls feel overly complicated for a CoDified zombie shooter. Ground roll and dive are under the same button, hold is a ground roll and light press is just a dive with getup. I think Cover is under 2 buttons. I had difficulties with the controls, and I play a lot of games. Its not game breaking for me, but might be for the mainstream audience.

How long is the overall demo? I forgot it was out till just now and it's kind of late, not sure if its worth losing sleep over.

I honestly hope so, but I have no faith in modern games journalism to give any AAA release below an 8, for simply being ok.

Some one make a kick starter for an old school survival horror game, please ! there is still a Market for it, i'd buy it!

I'm still wondering when ReMothered will come out.

In addition, I'm pretty disappointed by the little things in this game. Like computer screens not reacting to bullets. I haven't played enough of the demo to judge the big picture, but the lack of attention to detail is bugging me.

The HUD is ridiculously bad. White circles, little & big white squares - wtf is this shit? Chris HUD looks like a speedometer. :(

What I hate about it most is how it swaps to the other side of the screen whenever you switch your over the shoulder view. If you turn the HUD off the crosshair disappears leaving only the red dot, which also disappears whenever it's not actually on an enemy, why?

pretty sure you can set it to one side in the options. think i saw something like that in there. it bugged me too.

gotta switch it off of Auto i think.
