Resident Evil 6 DEMO VER. Thread: Capcom's final chance for redemption

How absolutely stupid, as all that crticism might mean something to some, others might find the same game perfectly fine. There is whining about Zombies desintegrating, which even for the hardcorest of the hardcorest shouldn't make any difference in gameplay unless your personal taste says "Desintegrating Zombies = BAD!"

except it does make a difference to gameplay, if the floors were littered with dead zombies you killed it wouldnt be quite so eye rollingly jarring when you see one zombie lying on the floor and have to walk over to trigger it to attack you so you can shoot it

That seems more TV dependent doesn't it?

Even if it would (it doesn't because no matter how intense the background is on your TV, the darkest shade is value x on it and the zombie silhouette is sometimes the exact same shade) it would still be very incompetent work from the art team to not consider the displays people play their game on.

I have a nicely calibrated plasma and this demo is the first game I've played on it that I had this problem on.

RE6 is the new Doom 3.

I sat down for 30 mins of this last night. Controls were daunting at first but after a few gos they become pretty good. A nice tutorial or even a training mode would be handy in the full game.

Besides Jake's demo (which is pretty uneventful) I thought the other two were great. GOTY great in my opinion. Come at me!

I gotta agree that the car thing shouldve been a cutscene. It probably would be must better.
I don't think anything important would've been lost if it were just a cutscene, but it's not like you can fail the event. At least, I don't think you can. I fumbled around for the keys for a while when I first played it because I wasn't sure what was going on. It's very similar to a lot of the inconsequential QTEs in Heavy Rain.

Not to keep bitching about Vanquish, but that game also capped with a series of quicktime events that'd kill you if you failed them a single time at the end of the final boss battle. That is a kind of QTE worth getting upset over.

This game doesn't seem above including insta-death QTEs, however, the car QTE isn't one. I'd only understand the anger if failing it made you restart the mission or sequence or something. As it stands, it's merely an innocuous thing meant to involve the player more.

While we're on the subject, what's the difference between success and failure on a zombie grab QTE? It seems like you still take the same amount of damage either way. Is that right?

Fast-forward to October 2012:

-News: Resident Evil 6 breaks past series records, best selling resident evil game ever
Capcom: *laughs*
GAF: fuuuuu.jpg, ok.jpg

It's going to be that BAD, not just a good seller, but the best-selling entry in the series. I can bet money on that.

At this point, MIKAMI IS OUR ONLY SAVIOR. PROJECT ZWEI IS THE KEY.

I can't wait, does anyone know if there will be a showing at TGS ?

What did you like about the chris section, and have you played/ are a fan of past resident evil?

short nostalgia break:

You have used the diamond key.
This key is no longer needed. Would you like to discard it ?
>Yes No

Door sequence, dreading what's going to be in the next room.
Horror and fear on hardware about 50 times less powerful than today's.

[ot] good work ! good work ! good work ! appreciated !
[ot] folding chairs stump

[ot] of resident gears of duty
[ot] don't be afraid of zombies biting you. Be afraid of their Uzi's.

Resident Evil was one of the two games (the other being Alien Trilogy) that sold me on a PSX back in 1997.

It's quite depressing thinking about the RE series going from the highs of the brilliant action-adventure-survival-horror games, reinventing the third person shooter genre, replicating it competently on co-op to the absolute low of becoming a third-rate Gears of War clone. But I guess that's what the market demands nowadays.

Played the demo.
Wow. What an unparallelled clusterfuck. Capcom just took a massive dump on the whole RE legacy. What the hell were they thinking?

Thank fuck for Dead Space.

._. good morning! Still can't believe the delay I read yesterday. 1 second after pressing L1? God damn.

You seriously think that the four month old demo that they put out won't be touched up between whenever that was made and when the game went gold?

LORD

Such an unnecessary response; the guy is just wondering and not being confrontational.

Anyway, a hint of a field of view fix would be enough to bring me back on board here. I had a lot of fun playing RE5 with my best friend, but I don't think the current, nauseating FOV is going to be good for us.

Hey, I haven't even played the demo, nor did I complained about it in this thread, so don't "LORD" me here :(

I'm just wondering if and how much they have improved it seeing cvxfreak went from hating to enjoying the game.

Sorry, you can understand my anger though reading most of the OMG PREORDER CANCELLED THIS GAME IS THE WORST I HAVE EVR PLAYED responses in here.

I apologise again ;_;

Playing it more and more, a lot of the issues people are having is indeed stuff that can be fixed before launch. This game just needs some ironing out. Which I have noticed playing it more and more (Not to mention enjoying it a lot now). Plus like you said if CVX wasn't liking the demo but found the TGS booth up to par you know they're doing something in terms of polishing.

i don't know that. i'm hoping that. he'll chime in here eventually.

I still wish they hadn't moved the camera from the way it was supposed to be. Everyone who thought it was too close before will still think it is too close now, people would still have got used to it just as quickly, and now it doesn't look as cool.

Just out of interest, who the heck is cvxfreak, and why do we care about his opinion?

Played the PS3 demo last night. Clearly a case of execs having said, "forget history, COD this shit".

Absolutely atrocious.

I hated the RE5 demo, the final game is one of my favourites this gen... as much as I hate the demo, still have to get it... you know, just in case >_<

How did you hate the demo it played like an enhanced re4 and the axecutioner was such an intense scene I was fully satisfied by that demo

I don't suppose anyone has confirmed the PS3 Install size?
It's 849 MB.

Played through Chris and Jake's scenario. Both were pretty short. Run, gun and R1. That's all I gotta say. Everyone has a healing factor. Didn't care about Jake, played as Sherry.
I can see why people died in Chris's scenario at the beginning. Liked his scenario out of the 3 due to the monster you fight. RE6 demo didn't send any chills down my spine at all. Disappointed.

Played the PS3 demo. Played through leon's stage first, and after some camera adjustment, what started out as a promising new resident evil, turned into a call of duty clone. After shooting multiple zombies I gave up and ran past them to the next checkpoint. Shit got boring fast.

Chris demo next, got past the giant monster, the whole time thinking how shit this game is. Quit in disgust.

Can't remember the names of the characters in the last demo and at this point I couldnt give a stuff any longer. Lasted 2 minutes, quit the game, deleted demo, went online and cancelled pre-order.

...and I though they couldnt possibly make a game worse than 5. Resident evil is dead.

he's GAFs biggest RE fan and expert. he didn't like the demo and has played the final version at TGS and he liked it. obviously we want to know why he likes the full version, and obviously he's the ideal person to get that impression.

Can someone explain how the life works in this game?
It's so damn confusing that i've just kind of pieced what I think it is.

You have the blocks and ALA Resistance 1, when you loose a block you don't heal it back.
However if only half the block is gone you can heal that back. Then you take the pills (which I think are herbs) to fill your blocks back up.

However you can also use A first Aid Spray or a mixed herb to get all your blocks back no matter what you're at.

Is this right?
Im just confused because there's a life bar yet it seems like you could play a lot of the game ignoring it and just waiting for the "red screen" to go away when you are to hurt.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to use/combine my green herbs. I just eat tic tacs to restore health.

Got used to the controls. Got used to the camera. Now I just need to get used to playing Chris and Jake's campaigns without having WE WANT THE CALL OF DUTY AUDIENCE replaying in my head over and over. I don't even know if I'm even going to bother with those campaigns in the full game. Actually, if Mercenaries mode is available from the start and doesn't require a story mode playthrough to unlock anything, I might just play that mode exclusively, even though Leon's was pretty enjoyable.

Played the demo, thought it was lame. I mean, it's not a bad game; it controls well and the graphics are nice, but it just didn't hit for me. The game just felt tedious after a while, at least the demo does. The gun-play isn't enough to warrant the non-stop action gameplay, maybe in 2005, but not now. Not to mention that there's no tension anymore. I don't feel like I could ever be scared or startled while playing this. The characters are superheros, and I never feel sympathetic or even worried about them.

I don't know, I'm really interested to see how this sells. I feel like 5 sold because it was a RE game, and people didn't exactly know what to expect. Was it still going to be scary? Would it be a return to form? Then we played the demo, and new what to expect, but a lot tried to convince themselves that the demo wasn't indicative of what the full game is, and it was. Now they know what to expect from 6, and after playing the demo, I'm not sure how it is going to be bought by those same longtime fans. And for the more mass audience that it appeals to, it just doesn't have the controls or speed to interest them. It's not going to be Gears of War, it's never going to be Gears of War. Even so, who knows, maybe they will sell like hotcakes again. The RE name still is big I guess...I mean, with all the shitty movies and games recently, I don't know if it's a good name, but it's there.

A couple of camera settings and it's less annoying than before.

Laser sight
Aim Speed - 5
Camera Speed - 7
Camera setting while running - Only horizontal correction (this helps a lot considering now the camera doesn't sticks to the ground while running and stays at the height it was before running)

Also there's some complex boob physics calculations being run for Helena.

By the way I liked how in RE5 all the weapons were visible and were physically holstered somewhere on the character's body.

Couldn't figure out how to combine herbs either. This red and green herb going to waste.

You open the inventory with Y or its PS3 equivalent (triangle?). Select a herb. The first option is, I believe to combine it, so press the action button again, make sure the herb you want to combine it with is now selected, and press action again.

Red + Green gives you 6 health pills. Green + Green gives you 3 and (Green + Green) + Green gives you 6 again. (It should be bleedin obvious that you can tell this from the number of green blobs on the brown thingy you get as a result, but I shall mention it for completeness)

And note that you are not locked in place with the inventory open. Although you can't control the camera, the LS still moves your guy around.

(And you press the right bumper (R2 - the one on the right that isn't the shoot button at least) to take a health pill (Each pill gives you one health block. And you can tap it a bunch of times quickly to take more than one - so tap it three times and your guy takes three pills and gets three blocks of health back), and hold the right bumper (R2) and press X (square? The one on the left anyway) to transfer health pills from your inventory to your pill box (the little number next to your health showing how many you have available for use))

As disappointed as I am in the game, I don't think think it was influenced by Call of Duty. The way encounters play out is nothing like that particular series. There is way too much close quarters gameplay present along with enemies that require more damage. CoD is just a shooting gallery in comparison.

If anything it seems to be going for Western style 3rd person cover shooters more than anything else.

Nah, they took that thing absolutely nobody likes from CoD: respawning enemies!
