Resident Evil 6 DEMO VER. Thread: Capcom's final chance for redemption

I cannot dodge. There was this lone zombie with a fire axe... and fortunately Leon was off playing with himself or something so I had an opportunity to mess around without him firing and killing it.

I tried dodging the axe with L1+X but that prick hit me every time (took off a bunch of health too... cool) anyway I couldn't figure it out. Eventually just took his head off with the hydra.

I am not sure if the straight duck move has a purpose in and of itself - you can still input a direction on the left stick why your dude is ducking, so I kinda think it is just giving you a fraction of a second longer to decide which direction to roll.

Course, it could be that I am just not very good at whatever it is supposed to do.

I think this is right. When you duck, you can hit a direction and your character will then roll in that direction. I don't think it's meant to avoid attacks in and of itself, although I could be wrong as I haven't really messed with it.

If anything, the dodge system will let us rely on our own abilities rather than pressing a "LT+RT!" flashing QTE that appears for like a microsecond and takes down a fair amount of health.

Because I hated it so fucking much in Irving's fight.

I enjoyed the hell out of the Leon section (only part I played so far).

This is next gen RE! So much better than 5, at least what I've seen so far. Feels like an actual horror game... But with slick controls.

Are there are Xbox/PS3 graphical comparisons?

Ok... but... then how do you counter? I thought in the mercs vid I watched he was using the dodge to do a counter. Guess I missed what was actually happening.

It has a purpose. I've dodged under zombies throwing bottles as well as using it to dodge zombies who jumped at me. I've seen people use it in Mercenaries for that as well. I'm sure there will be other uses for it in the final game as well (it also looks like you're giving Leon a blowjob if you do it right next to him, so it has comedic factor use).

It seems very situational though and the times its useful are so infrequent I often forget to use it.

No you have to hit RT/R1 right as the enemy is about to strike you. The RT/R1 prompt shows up for a split second when an enemy is about to attack you. The timing for it is really tight, you have to be on top of your shit.

Actually... now that I'm used to the game I have pretty much zero complaints. I love it.

The only issue for me is how they designed handedness and switching sides, but otherwise I have no issues. Even the camera I'm getting used to. Kinda like it in Leon section, lol.

I like it close as Chris too... feels a little closer to the action. You just have to really get the hang of it. It becomes second nature after a little while.

I'm not saying it's good... but it's not bothering me, and there are some positives. Like having a closer look at the awesome character models, and just feeling like you're a bit closer to the world. I generally like close cameras, but not usually if they are free cams. I would still prefer something like Dead Space, but honestly this is fine.

I would very much like them to change how they do handedness though... because 1) it makes player movement in the environment more cumbersome and penalizes you for being tactical 2) it's an exploit for people who want to cheese the bolt actions which will mess with versus and merc scores.

They just need to flip the camera over in a smooth motion without stopping you in your tracks and having to switch hands. They should never switch hands... especially with a rifle.

I don;t think they will change it... but I hope they do. It's the only complaint I have about the demo. Otherwise I love this shit. So good.

Right on. I loved it the first time I played it, but the more time I put into it the more I enjoy it. I have zero complaints as well.

I think this is going to be true for a lot of people. It's awkward at first, but once you get the hang of everything it's really fun. There is a bigger learning curve here than the other games and I hope more people will give it a second chance.

Hell, I know people who play about 5 minutes of one campaign and immediately say it's garbage.

I just figured out you can do a fall down recovery. If you hit back on the analog + X (A on the 360) just as you get knocked on your ass you roll back into standing position really fast.

I hope you're right, but I just don't really feel any urge to pick up the game now. I'm not one of the people who have been going up in flames about it. I just... felt burnt out after the demo. It's hard to muster any enthusiasm now, since it felt laborious trying to get a handle on my surroundings without feeling nauseated due to the suffocating camera, or trying to track my health with the HUD toggled off since I couldn't stand the distracting objective marker. I loved the trailers so much, though -- I wish Capcom would keep making those, lol.

Here's a bunch of random related stuff I found looking around the net!

New game+ and skills info:

"Hey guys, just to clarify you will NOT have to start all over with your skill points/upgrades after you clear the game. You'll be prompted with a new game+ option where you'll start a new game with all the skill/upgrade loadouts you previoulsy had. This also works between characters so for example if you beat Leon's campaign, those upgrades will transfer to Chris when you start his storyline.

Also, semi-related, you won't be able to unlock all of the skills in a single game clear. In fact on the first clear you'll only be able to upgrade just a couple times depending on if you choose some of the more expensive options or not. Either way, you'll have to play quite some time and/or be a master skill point hunter to unlock them all, best of luck and happy hunting!

PS: infinite ammo is now a per-weapon based skill that you can unlock, but they are pretty costly so you'll have to either sacrifice some upgrades along the way or grind those points out the old fashioned way :)"

There's also a guy claiming the mini-gun and rocket launcher will return.

Is there any chance Capcom will add the ability to position the camera back farther and, more importantly, toggle off -just- the objective marker?

Sweetness. Unlocks will make the game more fun, like RE 5

Wow, I don't like that at all. I assumed characters were separate.

What is usually the case is that after clearing the campaign you are basically overpowered (and the room for infinite ammo and etc is still there it seems). That makes using New Game+ for the two other campaigns very unappealing.

I've been playing this same demo over like a million times... this game is going to be crack for me just like RE5. You'll be able to play these levels over and over again.

The encounters so far have played out different almost every time with the Jake/Sherry mission. Couple guys always do the same thing if you approach it the same way, but once shit goes down things move pretty dynamically. Those lizard things are fun to fight.

It's a little weird for all the characters to be so good with weapons (like Sherry can do everything Chris can do) but I guess it just has to be that way.

Man... two weeks. :)

Yeah, unfortunately the game seems designed to be really unintuitive, but what can I say? I'm sure there are people who are REALLY not going to like the game. I feel bad for you guys, but not everyone is going to have as much fun as I am. Try playing it a few more times would be my suggestion. Play it online with a friend at the very least. Co-op makes everything fun.

I'm hoping the HUD can be toggled off separately in the final game. If not I can live with it, but it's still kind of annoying.

As for the trailers, yeah, I've watched that TGS trailer probably 20 times at this point.

I hate to say it... but I somewhat miss my AI partner having health/ammo limits... wish there was a way to balance that so they weren't invincible, but also weren't so annoying as RE5.

My advice to those having issues, is to empty an area of enemies and then just mess around doing all the moves. Sprint everywhere... you'll get used to the camera and how to turn the player. You can actually navigate some crowded areas and turn pretty tight while sprinting, but it takes a little getting used to. Another thing I notice I'm doing is leading with the camera. You position the camera where you want and then the player can adjust pretty easy without doing the "run in a jank circle" thing I was getting all the time in the demo. And quick turn is still alive and well, but like everything else it just takes a little getting used to.

From the impressions I'm getting it takes a lot of time to fully upgrade everything. There's a ton of different skills as well, so you can play whatever way you want. I think there's even some negative skills if you want a challenge.

But if it becomes too easy you could always play professional mode, or not use skills at all.

You don't have to be overpowered if you don't want to. Just don't bring infinite rocket launchers with you on every mission.

I honestly think it varies from person to person, especially regarding one's patience.

Depending on what kind of player you are, sometimes five minutes is plenty to know you aren't having fun. Now, whether or not that's enough to time deem something "complete and utter garbage" is another story.

Learning how to play games is essential to understanding them and, usually, deriving enjoyment from what they provide. It's possible for someone who didn't like the demo at first to find it more fun after getting the hang of things. It's also equally possible for someone who doesn't particularly enjoy the demo to still be able to play it well, utilizing every mechanic properly.

This is an entry in an established series, not a new IP with a clean slate, so it's also going to fall victim to preexisting frustrations with the franchise and, as a TPS, additional genre expectations that lie outside of RE. At least, this is what I'm gathering from people who are absolutely hating what they played.

That said, I'm very much looking forward to the game. Provided it's well-made, it will likely be more fun for me to play than any other RE I've pushed myself through thus far. I'm still wary of the potential for things to go wrong, though, especially with some of the current gripes I have with the two demos.

I miss how you can't share stuff. It was cumbersome but it created a better team dynamic. I actually didn't know you could heal your partner for a while until I noticed when I took a pill next to them their health went up.

I can't find much information on the skill system.

Game is extremely fun, addictive and replayability is really high.
I can't wait for some boss battles, new enemy types and new weapons.
Are weapon upgrades still in the game ?

This game is going to be a monster when it comes to eating up my time.

You've got 3 main campaigns which play out differently depending on which of the 6 characters you use. Then you got Ada's campaign and the prologue. Which can all be played out alone or online (with 4 player online sections as well). Then you can replay them all in Agent Hunt mode trying to stop other players from beating the game. Then you've got Mercenaries with multiple online modes and it's own host of things to unlock. And if you want, you can spend a ton of time leveling up all the skills and trying out different skill sets or you can try collecting all the medallions to unlock stuff like background story and character information.

Agent Hunt mode... holy shit. They let you play as everything! lol... even the lizard things.

I wonder if that's like a mercs level? The agents are playing in an arena of sorts? It doesn't look like you're invading people's games like in Dark Souls. More of a separate thing. Still looks cool as hell. The players have all the abilities of the enemies in the game. They even mutate and have special melee and stuff. You can throw zombie axes at people. That is incredible.

Much have been so much work to let players control all the stuff in the game.

Oh god that looks sooo good, also Agent Hunt mode is the mode where you invade other players sp?
Can't wait to unlock everything with my coop partner.

It's kind of like versus mode in Left 4 Dead.

When you play the campaign you can turn on an option to allow people to join your game as the bad guys and they have to stop you from completing the level. I'm not sure how many players can join, but it's probably 2 - 4 if I had to guess.

Wait, what? I was not even aware of this mode. Replay value out the ass and content galore.

From that footage it looked like they were being attacked by a bunch of human players... wonder how many people can invade.

I wonder how it works... if the invader can just keep spawning as the players progress, or if they have to find a new match every checkpoint. I'm really curious about it... looks sooo awesome.

Pretty much, but two points. Firstly the mode can only be turned on for stages that you've already completed at least once. And like how there are two playable characters, two people can be on the monster side of things. A fun fact, if you're using in-game chat there will be two separate parties for the chat, one for the humans and one for the monsters.

There also will be a multiplayer mode DLC based around the player versus monster mechanic where a team of humans must protect a NPC from a team of monsters.

I'm not sure if this was posted anywhere, but here is the first DLC information about the extra multiplayer modes in Mercenaries:

"Predator, Siege and Survivors modes will arrive on Xbox 360 after RE6 launches on October 2. Still waiting for more info (price, exact release date) so once I have those I will of course get them on Unity ASAP. I can say all three are online multiplayer modes that add a unique spin to the RE formula, and each interacts with RE.net for all kinds of neato stat tracking.

From the release:

Survivors Mode takes the classic solo- and team-based versus mode and adds a twist. Get killed and you respawn as an enemy character with the ability to attack the human characters. Take down two human characters to resurrect in human form. Last man or team standing wins.

In Predator Mode, one player takes on the role of the Ustanak, the fearsome B.O.W. that stalks Jake Muller throughout his campaign, and tries to eliminate the human players. The humans’ task: stop the deadly B.O.W. in its tracks, or at least survive until the end of the session.

Choosing the human side in Siege Mode will see players protecting a single NPC, while as a member of the enemy team, players will need to eliminate that same NPC. If the NPC is still alive at the end of the time period, the human team wins.

Survivors, Predator and Siege modes will all support up to six players online and be played using maps from Mercenaries Mode.

Players will be able to track their accomplishments in these three modes alongside their main campaign statistics and compare their performance with others by registering on Resident Evil.Net, the free online service that launches alongsideResident Evil 6.

Further post-launch downloadable content for Resident Evil 6 will include additional maps for Mercenaries, which can in turn then be used as maps for Survivors, Predator and Siege modes, plus other items yet to be announced.

I will also say these three modes are not on the RE6 disc and were completed after the game went gold. However, I do want to plainly state there is one piece of on-disc DLC. It's a comparatively small piece of content that will be a mixture of existing disc data and newly downloaded data. This is the only piece of on-disc DLC for RE6.

We know DLC has been a hot button issue this year, and that's why I wanted to clarify these new modes are not on the disc, as well as say up front there is one piece that will be. Subsequent DLC that's revealed for RE6 will not be on the disc.

Game's out in just a couple of weeks, plus the new demo hits September 18, 2012."

Lol... there's a spec for no crosshair and reticle, but greatly increased damage.

That's clever.

this is how most people respond to re6.

"WERE YOU SHOOTING WHILE I WAS HOLDING THE DOOR??!! THAT WAS AWESOME!!!

Anyways, I just got Umbrella Chronicles for Wii in the mail, and dude this game is awesome!! I thought it would just be a dumb lightgun game and I got it mainly for the lore and to see a 3D Raccoon City, but yo this game is pretty fun and tense. Gonna enjoy making my way through this game before RE6 comes out.

That's cool. This way just gives me incentive to not only replay levels, but the game itself. A brilliant addition. To hell with all the quirks, I am over it already and am used to the game. I'm going to have a great time with all this content.
