Resident Evil 6 is pretty damn FUN!

The game was surprisingly better than I expected it to be but it really has to be played on PC to get the most out of it. That FOV fix is practically mandatory.

That patch was made available on consoles too iirc, the one with auto QTEs and camera fixing

I'm a huge fan of lowly rated 3rd person shooters(ie Dead To Right Retribution, Army Of Two The Devils Cartel) and I thought RE6 was awful.
Worst TPS shooter I've played this gen and I've played a lot.
The combination of the controls and camera was just awful.

Gameplay also deserves a mention. Its fun to play. Like, really fun!
I pushed the camera all the way back, customized HUD/controls, turned on the auto-QTE thingy and I'm having a BLAST performing melee moves, cycling through satisfying weapons/bombs/etc and shooting with that great RE4+ style of gameplay.

Yes, that's how its done.

That Camera/auto-QTE patch really helped make the game more playable. I had tons of fun after some fiddling with the camera and turning auto-QTE on.

It was horrible on launch, but after some patches and fixes Capcom have managed to turn it into a decent game. I still think the level design and pacing are lacking for most of the campaign, but the added combat mechanics are nice and the option to turn cutscene QTEs off needs to become a series and industry standard. That said I still think it ranks far below RE4, and even 5. I would like to see a game like this in the future with more open levels instead of the corridors that many of them are made up of, and the upgrading system from those prior games brought back. (Seriously, why did they get rid of that? It was a great system.)

Edit: And no more vehicle segments, ever. I don't even know why these get put into shooters anymore, do people actually like them?

Probably the downright most unfun game I've played in the last several years. Everything in that game just felt like it was designed to be frustrating.

It's worse than just meh, which is why game is reviled. It's filled with annoying setpiece moments where you little control over your character and insta-death if you fail the strict path the developers want you to follow.

In Chris' 2nd chapter there's a moment when a bridge you're standing on starts to collapse. Random things (barrels, cars and other) slowly falls down and you have to climb up. If you stand in a "wrong" place when this scene is triggered, you will be immediately hit by a falling car and die instantly without any chance to do anything. Happened to me few times. :lol

and the option to turn cutscene QTEs off needs to become a series and industry standard.

Another thing that should become an industry standard is the ability to adjust camera/POV and change whether you're left handed or right handed. I play RE6 mainly with the character on the right side of the screen because, I dunno, it feels better to me (I'm left-hander myself). After playing RE6 for hours going back to any other TPS where you're forced to have your character on the left side of the screen feels weird. Why so few games allow you to switch your the camera. Won't somebody please think of left-handed gamers. :(

Edit: And no more vehicle segments, ever. I don't even know why these get put into shooters anymore, do people actually like them?
Yes, they were bad. Like, BAD. It didn't matter whether you were the one that was driving the vehicle or the one that were shooting - it was crap anyway. And to make it worse, those segments were really lengthy.

1)Boring , overly long boss fights that cause frustration more than anything.

2)Worst plot in RE history, mostly unlikable characters, weak villian,

3)Controls offer some depth but are equally frustrating and not intuitive

4)Health items and Ammo drop are just plain annoying in this game.Sometimes they are needlessly sparse and let's not pretend this is survival horror....

5)useless cover system

6)zero level design, hallways hallways hallways

7)actually hit detection kind of sucked and doesn't feel as good as RE5...

8)QTE awful as someone who played at launch...what were they thinking ?

Pretty much. Aside from some cool sequences here and there, I found it samey and boring. You could actually feel it lacking in soul as it endlessly tried to throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Leon's campain was the most fun and the most imaginative. The rest completely blends together into a giant meh. I had way more fun with Revelations, as it actually understood what the term pacing means--at least compared to RE6. The whole experience of that was just... draining. It didn't feel like fun. It felt like work trying to justify your purchase by trudging through the campaigns (even the ones you knew you wouldn't like).

Aye, it's there. Can only be accessed from the main menu though, which is silly. I had to zoom it back in a bit though, as a super large FoV made the movement animations look really weird.

Loved RE6. The campaign frustrated the hell out of me a lot in a lot of sections, and I almost didn't bother digging into Mercs, but when I did, holy shit did I love it. THE best third person shooter since Vanquish, hands down, and one of the most undeservingly criticized games in recent years.

Also, the PC version is god tier. Fantastic performance, visuals, and image quality. And great kb+m controls, too - it might make the game a bit too easy in some parts, but having more control of aiming and getting in accurate shots faster actually speeds the game up even more, which is a good thing for RE6.

My biggest issue with the criticism is how misplaced it was. Tons of bullshit were said from people who didn't get the gameplay.

You see, I absolutely agree that Capcom is the one to blame for not teaching you shit, but if the reviewer can't figure out the controls on their own, how the hell will he complain about Capcom not having proper tutorials? Instead they'll just lie in their reviews with things like "the knockdowns are completely random and you have to wait a long time to recover", when both of those are BS.

There are tons of reasons to hate the game, I'll even say that you could actually keep the scores as they are, but you shouldn't lie in a review to help your case, you can find enough reasons to say RE6 was a 4~5/10 game for you without doing that.

It bugs the hell out of me with Rising too with the amount of people saying it didn't have a dodge. You should be able to figure it out on your own in order to properly criticize platinum for not having the button inputs in the fucking upgrade screen.

Of course it's not the same when consumers don't get it and bash the game for it, they're still wrong, but the reviewer is being paid to analyze and criticize a game, the least you would expect is that they would be able to figure out how to play the damn game.

I'm not even asking for in depth stuff like setting up a coup-de-grâce and then throwing a hand grenade before executing it in order to multiply your coup-de-grâce score with the amount of grenade kills you get, but simple shit like "you can dodge, there's a fast recovery, knockdowns happen when you lose a square of health".

Well of course, since RE5 was awesome.

Yep.

I can't understand putting Revelations over RE6. Does Revelations get way better after the comms officer or something?

No gif love for the pretty fantastic monster selection or cool monster animations in Resident Evil 6?

Revelations is basically RE5 with worse enemy reactions and a slower pacing. I found the mood of the game to be more compelling though. People usually say it's a better game than 5 or 6 because it's closer to the originals but really aside from maybe the mood it's much closer to RE5.

My opinion on Revelations, I didn't like it -quite- as much as Resident Evil 6, but almost as much, but for completely different reasons.

I'm going to keep this brief, but Revelations has some pretty cool monsters (my favorites appearing later in the game), and I think its the best ship setting in a RE game yet. The story for me is enjoyable, but stupid (
two-ship subplot, everyone is a double or triple agent, etc
) but I found how outlandish it all was, from the introduced characters and plot, to be entertaining B-goodness. The music in Revelations is fantastic in my opinion. Its handheld nature shows even in the HD version, but I also think there's some cool moments, though I kind of wish more of the game was like the final chapter. That chapter was surprisingly atmospheric.

I didn't mind the other character sections, but those were straight-action, and not as good as Jill's segments. The game seemed a bit too scared to really go full-horror, but I thought it was a nice little adventure. I liked the setting, enemies, and Raid Mode the most of it though. Raid Mode is a lot of fun, in my opinio, and Ghost Ship is one of the best unlockables ever.

But I also like Jake's campaign in Resident Evil 6 and his Chapter 3 is one of my favorites in the game, so what do I know?

Playing through RE6 in co-op was one of the best times I've ever had in gaming. It was hilarious in a so-bad-it's-good way, which I thought was only possible for movies.

...oh Ustanak.

Should I give this another try? Because outside of the horrible interface I found a lot of fun in the game! And if I can avoid the QTE's I'd love to jump back in. EDIT: Wait, can you counter moves? HOW DID I MISS THAT!?

Do you work for one of Capcom's competitors?

Don't be an idiot. People can like things.

No I dont. I said I disagree with his opinion.

And thats fine. If he likes it then more power to they guy.

The game shouldnt have Resident Evil as its title.

Did you play 1,2,3 and 4?

In MY opinion the game is terrible.

People who defend are either ultimate RE fanboys who think that even Survivour is a great game and Capcom can do no wrong. If I see crap then Ill call the company out for it. I think Capcom can do so much better.

Theres a reason why Capcom are in the situation they are in and its not because they have been making good games.

Hell, even Capcom themselves said they want the call of duty crowd to play Resident Evil games and as soon as I heard that I knew the game would be terrible, and it was.

Its not Resident Evil, at all.

Combat was shallow as hell, boring even. Poor pacing and just awful gameplay in general. Hell i didn't really even like 4 and 5 that much but it's like they just completely gave up with 6 and made a 3rd person action shooter for a casual audience.

The QTE for counters appear for a split-second, so it's really easy to miss it. But when you learn to counter (at least some of the moves), it's a game changer. Bloodshots, for example, changed from a real threat (seriously, whenever they appear in Urban Chaos map, I panicked) into an easy 10 second bonus in Mercenaries ;P

So he can have his opinion ("and that's fine"), but that means he's a Capcom's shill. Great. Because no one in their right mind can think that the game has fabulous gameplay, one of the most versatile combat mechanics in third person shooters, hidden under a piece of shit that is the campaign - which is the common opinion shared by people (those damn "ultimate RE fanboys") who defend this game.

Guess I'm definitely going to redownload this and give it another go. I'm half-way trough everyone's campaigns so I'm going to load it up and see what I find.

The combat system in this game was absolutely great. I've seen some gifs in this thread of moves I didn't even know about before. Mercenaries was top notch, and the prices of the maps were really fair. I think it was about $2 for two maps (or rather ÂŁ2 for me because companies don't know how the exchange rate works).

Paying for extra modes was a moronic idea though.

It's ok. Definitely not as bad as people say it is, or critized in reviews. It's a good game with a little too much emphasis on the action and QTE's. Other than that, solid RE game.

Whaaaaaat?

Nice well thought out retort. I can't even remember the story at all in the game as it was mostly a constant stream of uninterrupted bullshit that never managed to grip me at all. Combat felt more like your standard genric shooter, not nearly as intense or dangerous as most of 4/5.

RE6 is a great game. Yet another game the internet's popular opinion is wrong about.

You were playing it wrong if you played it like a generic shooter.
