Resident Evil 6 - Spoilers and Discussion thread

Man I really wish I was watching the stream in real-time instead of having to resort to the youtube uploads

sounds like I'm missing something hilarious

This is going to kill Leon's replay value. I don't think I'd ever want to experience this again. Way too drawn out, and very boring gameplay situations.

What's the plot of RE6, anyway?

I was playing the Chris segment and was thinking... "Who is making the B.O.W? With what purpose?" and I don't remember this being mentioned anywhere!

He's been fighting the final boss for around an hour, and he's only died once I think.

It's still not over yet.
Sounds like some expert pacing there.

I knew this game's campaign bloat would be its downfall. I mean, it's without a doubt all around bad but I bet most of that stems from the fact that they're juggling all these campaigns. Like if I were to say why the mechanics are so messy and janky, it's because they have to accommodate vastly different campaigns. No room for refinement.

At least this game will stand testament to the fact that more is not always better. The reason I was wary of this game from basically the beginning was because of the multiple campaigns. It just sounded like disaster material, yet people thought they were going to get "value for their $60." Instead of one good 8-10 hour campaign you get four bad campaigns of varying lengths that don't matter because they're bad and not worth spending a single minute with.

to be fair, the whole fifth chapter is essentially this boss fight. I honestly think some people are taking it too hard, but I can understand not everyone likes a boss that keeps on changing and going.

I think part of the problem is that the player is sucky, seemingly incapable of understanding QTEs, and barely dodges or rolls.

But the rest is on Capcom here, because the objectives aren't really clear and the feedback isn't there at certain parts. There's no sense of progression here, in this fight.

Furthermore, it's just drawn out. If you're going to do a marathon boss with six phases, don't make each phase the length of a normal boss fight.

It's just bad design IMO. These huge enemies should be "one and done" experiences. Shooting giant glowing weakspots for over an hour is way too much.

This entire chapter is the exact OPPOSITE of RE4's genius.

The problem is that it's so action packed that it's boring

Zero tension whatsoever

That's a given. RE4 is a masterwork of pacing.

It knew when to rev up the action on the player, but also when to ease down, when to reward the player, etc.

Yep. Everything's at 110% and has been for the last hour. It's exhausting.

Not to mention, all the characters are wisecracking all the time, so the situation never really feels dangerous.

And people give RE5's Wesker ending flak, but it still makes plenty of sense from a design standpoint.

Phase 1: The strongest "human" type enemy you've encountered
Phase 2: Biggest QTE battle
Phase 3: Strongest "mutated" type enemy

And all three require teamwork, which was the whole point of the game.

In this game, there's been Human form, Lizard form, Wolf running along the train form, T-Rex form, T-Rex form (with turrets), Weird-looking form where you snipe him, Lizard climbing wall form, Scorpion form, Housefly form, and this Giant Enemy Crab form. There comes a point when all those transformations become boring. They should've only had the T-Rex.

The problem with that Wesker fight was the teamwork aspect, though. It was sort of unnaturally scripted and forced each player to take a fixed path based on the character they were playing before things could be triggered.

At least that's how I remembered it being. I really need to replay RE5, this RE6 mess shows that RE5 was pretty decent and that the only reason it seemed like such as step down was because it came after (one of) the greatest game(s) of all time, not that it was actually bad.

Yeah, in no way am I saying that RE5 is better than RE4. RE4 is one of my favorite games I've ever played. But at least in RE5 they understood what they were doing with the gameplay elements. It just could've been executed better. This is just saying "ooh, look at all our pretty graphics with these transformation sequences", with no thought given to the pacing, sense of payoff, or connection with the player.

Only problem I had with the Wesker fight was Jill should have been involved. She at least should have used the 2nd RPG instead of Sheva.

I can only watch these spoilers on YouTube...but I feel like part of the reason the game looks so boring is because the player is garbage. I didn't watch the Simmons fight though.

Looks like Capcom wanted to honor Dino Crisis while they were at it. :lol

The peoples reactions in the stream when Simmons turned into a Dinosaur were hilarious.

Anyway, PM'd and looks like the videos are being reuploaded elsewhere. I don't know why Capcom are taking them down though as the game is legitimately out in some third world countries.

Well I'm glad I got to watch them before Capcom started taking them down.

I was really surprised how varied Leon's campaign is. Seems like it moves at a brisk pace with lots going on. Also. the narrative was a lot better than I expected as well. I kind of geeked out at the Chris/Leon first meeting.
