RESIDENT EVIL 7: Beginning Hour Midnight Version [Final Update] Cryptic Grave Puzzle

giphy.gif

I think to get the fifth giggle you have to see the ghost in the video. If that alone doesn't work, try redoing the note after it's been moved next to the tv. Reading the moved note isn't enough, it only giggled after I saw the ghost.

I feel like the only reason this was included in the demo was because of how much time people spent originally looking for stuff.

I feel the same. They probably saw the dozens of threads and videos trying to search a meaning for the Finger and decided to do something cool with this update. I doubt something like this is going to be in the main game.

Any PSVR impressions?

I just played the demo in PSVR.

The atmosphere is incredible. Even though you know it's a horror game, you really do feel like you are stuck in a house in which something/someone is going to come and get you.

I really felt like I was in the house and wanted to get the hell out of there before something/someone came after me.

It's very similar to the atmosphere in the PSVR Kitchen demo the first time you play it.

Is this demo scary? Downloaded it but really afraid to play alone here, lol.

I would say no in regular mode, HELL YES in VR mode.

Other than things looking kinda blurry and the motion giving me an upset stomach, the atmosphere is absolutely incredible.

I didn't get the 5the giggle initially. I finished the VHS world already but I got nothing when looking at the doll. I did pick up the attic windows key and valve. I also got the gun in the bathroom. I decided to run through the VHS world again and soon as I got back, I headed to the basement. Looked at the doll and got the giggle.

Finished everything up at that point. Does the game automatically save at that point? In terms of having the save file for the final game, etc.

So where does the ghost appear during the VHS part? It triggers when the lockpick is picked up, right?

Hey everyone, this is Dusk Golem aka AestheticGamer. I have posted on NeoGAF since 2011, and have decided to resign. I have enjoyed posting about horror games here for years, but I no longer wish to support the site and will be leaving for good. I will still be around the internet, I go by AestheticGamer on YouTube, I make games on Steam as Yai Gameworks, and I plan to go by Dusk Golem on other forums. I'll be joining an off-set of the GAF community leaving to try other ventures like ResetEra (Official Twitter for that here: https://twitter.com/reseteraforum ). I hope some of you who read this may consider it, and I plan to try to expose more people to horror games in the years to come. Just not here.

I hope you all are having a good day, and know I always loved the community, and in the end it's the community I'm going to stick with, not the site itself. If you want to follow me, my official Twitter is here: https://twitter.com/AestheticGamer1

I'm happy to have contributed to this puzzle. It was a lot of fun.

Not going to attempt to finish it until there's a definitive solution to getting the final giggle though. I have played the VHS tape through so many times to the point of insanity.

Did it in VR, did it as fast as I could so I could get the bad ending.

Don't know how anyone could solve any of this stuff but it's fun to watch. I remember the old thread trying to solve the Dummy Finger and I'm glad it's solved now.

Crazy demo...it's like PT...

Old stuff maybe, but how exactly do you get the gun Or axe again? I got to the basement for the first time and boom.

In the basement you'll get the valve off the gurney. You use the valve in the bathroom and then flush the toilet. The gun is in the toilet. The lock-pic you get in the basement can be used in the kitchen. The axe is in the locked drawer.

Any chance RE7 will support Move controllers?

Don't think so. The Navigation controller hasn't been used (if it's even supported) by any PS4 game, so movement wouldn't be possible with just a Move controller.

I'll add to the theory about needing to get a ghost sighting in the VHS tape (possibly 2 sightings) to trigger the final giggle. I played through the VHS 5 times in a row without a sighting (and i was specifically looking for them) Then on 6th run through of the tape i got 2 sightings, then got the giggle immediately afterwards.

I didn't notice the ghost at all on my second VHS run but then I wasn't paying attention and/or didn't know to look. So its entirely possible that I missed her being at one of those locations and was lucky enough to have triggered the giggle on my second trip.

Yeah, I've been assuming the same thing. It's a shame: the navigation controller does a fine job.

Every time I go into the basement to grab the valve the monster spawns and I'm trapped in the basement and die.

How do I get out with the valve.

Go back to the door you came in through and mash the X button a lot. The family man will hold you in for a few seconds before leaving, at which point you'll kick the door. It'll open with the second kick. Run out and the monster will despawn.

If you're feeling feisty, press X at the hanging bodybag to kick it into the monster (line up so it's between you and the monster) to knock it to the ground while the family man is doing his animation. That'll give you enough time to kick down the door without getting hurt.

Grab the valve, go to the door. Push the door open, door is stuck, press X to open, press X to open again, run through door.

Yeah it'd be so easy to miss a sighting since she flashes in and out of view for a second or 2 in each of the spots she appears.

Kick the hanging body bag against it to knock and stun it. But get the key in the back first if you want to escape the house.

That puzzle is honestly ridiculous. Way too obtuse. How are you supposed to figure it out? How did people even figure it out, except by crazy pixel hunting trial-and-error that must have taken forever?

It has 7 possible spots you can spot it at, all of them it flashes on screen for only about two second and you can't just stare at the spot, you have to look at it at the exact right time. I don't have the timing down perfectly, but it's tied to the position Pete and Andre are at in the VHS sequence.

Here are the seven spots you can sight the ghost at (in order of appearance):

OMG fuck this

I was bricking it in VR even without this shit.

GIGGLE #5 is most definitely tied to the ghost in the VHS tape. You have to see the ghost at least once in TWO separate trips through the tape (not three, as mentioned earlier). That's the key. To the people who are claiming it's not, I'm sorry but you're wrong. I've watched these videos you're posting of people who seemingly get it to trigger without seeing the ghost. The thing is, they're not paying attention to all 7 spots where she appears (especially the two spots in the kitchen). They're simply not seeing her.

Here is my playthrough in which I get GIGGLE #5 to trigger (starts after the 00:38:00 mark). There's some idle moments, so you'll have to skip ahead on occasion. Do as I do and be sure to see the ghost at least once in two separate trips through the tape, and I guarantee the 5th giggle will trigger for you. I've replicated this three times already. If you happen to see her more than once during one trip through the tape, it won't count as two sightings. You'll still have to play through the tape again until you get another sighting.

This is my brother's playthrough. He does things a bit differently, like use the gun on the portrait instead of the axe to trigger GIGGLE #3. But he gets GIGGLE #5 to trigger using the same method.

This is the truth. Honestly it made even parts of the demo that I knew so well from playing it when it originally came out, scary again. I had to stop myself every few minutes to calm myself down. I know it's not real but I can't help but feel like someone is about to reach out and get me.

For those playing in vr what settings are you using to avoid the feeling of throwing up? I want to play the full game completely in vr but idk if my stomach can survive it if a short demo made me feel this way. I will be getting a pro for Christmas so hopefully the improved iq helps. I almost shit myself in the basement section where you try to open the door you came from and family man is fucking smiling at you.

I've played this demo a ton and I've never seen a single ghost. God damn. That thing looks terrifying

The same way people figured out PT. By doing obtuse things lol.

The thing is. There IS some sort of precedent here. Capcom said the dummy hand and finger would have a use, and the notes leads you to these places. So it's not too far fetched. Getting these things to trigger is, but I feel it's just something for the Demo and to keep the community engaged.

Yeah I think you're on the money. Went once through VHS just spinning so I could get triggers. Then the second time I focused on the 7 spots and then she giggled on the doll.

This version of the demo is pretty much what they needed to release in the first place. Now it is actually really good and interesting but I am already so tired of the initial area and the VHS that I am more bored and at times pissed off by playing it.

Also how do you get the true ending? I always get hit by the monster and can't even kill it so I always get the infected ending.

Aside from possibly that early version of RE4 with Leon in the castle, has the RE series had ghosts before? Seems so odd to me this is part of the same universe as the other RE games.

Resident Evil has always had gothic elements, but it's never delved into the supernatural.

As for the demo, I personally don't think it's a ghost. Since it's a tape of a sleazeball "reality show" it's likely part of the production, and the ghost (VFX) is perhaps a female actress... which also adds to the idea that maybe she's a survivor and you play as her (or find her). Little did they know they actually stumbled into the home of a murderous family.

Use one of the bodies swinging from the ceiling to knock him on his ass. That will give you enough time to kick your way out the room without getting hit.

The first time I did it I ended up putting 10 bullets into it and he laughed in my face and took me out... I then had to start from the beginning because it doesn't save.

It's true, you have to see the ghost at least once among other things.
Those are the only times I was able to get the coin. Unfortunately, she doesn't show up all the time, even if you look at all the spots and that's why people aren't able to get the fifth laugh.

Dusk, I think it's time to put this in the OP.
if you still doubt his theory, check my video.

good work, komba

Does the updates just add new things or modify completely the demo? Can someone who never played the demo before and after each update, just waited for the final update, regret that?

It's better to just play the final update since it added a shit load to the original including an area the size of the original. Only thing that is missing is the phone doesn't ring anymore so there isn't anything to do with it.

When I got the 5th giggle, I didn't see the ghost. Maybe it appeared and we just didn't notice, but I was doing it with friends and we were looking for the ghost and never saw it. I'm aware of the places she spawns, too.

The two separate trips thing checks out, though. I only went into the VHS twice. Once to rush to the lockpick to unlock the drawer, after which I immediately stopped it. The other I completed it just to see if I could get the doll to giggle.

Oh pfff. I knew they would remove some stuff. What did it do before?

So, you have to see the ghost twice across two VHS runs? Am I understanding that right.

She's most likely not an actual ghost.

There's a lock pick in the basement? Where? I've been going into the VHS tape to get one every time I play the demo.

When you kill the creature in the basement, have you actually seen it die and fall on the ground? When I got the true ending, it seemed like it screamed at me and lunged and then was just gone. Like it vanished into thin air.

Yep, adding to the others confirming you have to see the ghost in the tape to trigger the 5th giggle. Just did it, and got the coin.
