RESIDENT EVIL 7: Beginning Hour Midnight Version [Final Update] Cryptic Grave Puzzle

I have not been able to kill the monster in two tries using the axe. I knocked him down both times with the hanging body and got a fair share of strikes in being chased around but no luck. Tips?

You don't need to kill him. Just run. If you have the key, he'll despawn for good.

Unless you're just wanting to kill him? Then I don't know. I unloaded about 10 bullets on him and he didn't die.

Finally popped on my VR headset for this demo and....

HOLY SHIT IT LOOKS GOOD.

Seriously, it looks so real sometimes. Having trouble tweaking the controls just right for it. The quick snap turns make me a little nauseous

I'm glad they put the effort in making the coin easter egg a long ass solution. CAPCOM absolutely knows the community goes haywire with secrets like that.

While I doubt they'll have anything like this puzzle in the main game, it would be neat to have some branching paths, multiple endings, and other factors that tie in replayability.

I loved the presentation of the demo. Looks ace.

Finally re-tackled the new update since it dropped for the coin and true ending. Took about 3 attempts. First attempt I was hit while attempting to leave the room after Murder Spot 2. Second attempt I made it to triggering the 5th Giggle, but Moldy blocked the entry back into the morgue in the despawn attempt. It missed twice while I was in front of it trying to find a way to squeeze past, but somehow hit me as I finally edged past and behind it.

Third try was the charm, needing two VHS runs for the 5th Giggle. A bit disappointed with the True Ending, and was a bit bummed that the Marguerite kill scene is cut in that one.

After playing the demo on PC, my question/concern would be, are they really going to force me to do everything in a specific order like this in the full game? I really don't want to start a 15hr experience over and over again every time I die.

I doubt it. This stuff is more than likely just for the demo to build hype like P.T. did

Does the PC demo save at all? I have now had my third attempt at the puzzle and once again, I can't get the third giggle. I verified the integrity of my game cache, so I'm royally confused about what's happening other than I somehow have a glitched save or something.

These are the exact steps I did:

1) Get Fuse and open stair well
2) Grab notebook
3) Grab dummy finger
4) Go upstairs and grab celluloid hand, combine hand and finger, and start puzzle by looking at message (Get first giggle)
5) Grab basement key
6) Go downstairs, pick up lockpick, and point finger at fallen shelf (get first murder)
7) Run upstairs and look at boarded up door (get second giggle)
8) Go to basement and point finger at body (Get second murder)
9) Pick up valve and leave basement (I don't get hit)
10) Run to picture of lady with bag over head and shoot it...get nothing
11) Use lockpick to get axe
12) Swing axe at picture and...nothing

I've also tried a different playthrough where I keep the lockpick and just unlock the drawer in the vhs tape to get the axe. I still couldn't get the third giggle. Any advice? Should I try not even starting the puzzle until I get the attic key? I'm truly out of ideas.

Saw a vid that gets 5th giggle without even watching the vhs but I can't do it. Picking up the phone is what triggers 5th giggle apparently.

I am guessing you are not supposed to be hit by the monster because that's the only thing I am doing different from the vid.

I didn't get hit and nothing happened.
At least we know that the tape is not neccesary to trigger it,that's a progress i guess..

I don't know how you got the second giggle without getting the VHS first =P

I would suggest going back into the basement and getting the attic key. Also, you don't even have to get the lockpick; just get the gun and use it to shoot the painting for the third giggle.

That's all I see that you've done differently from how I've gotten it to work, aside from opening the attic before getting the finger and notebook (it's more efficient to get the finger and notebook while downstairs and then go upstairs).

I played the demo a little bit again last night, and while neat, it is just not Resident Evil for me. I am in no hurry to pick this up and will be waiting on Revelations 3.

Forgot to say I did that step lol. Anyway, I'll try this method, but if it doesn't work; I'll just try starting the puzzle only after I get the Attic key.

Edit: OK, so I finally got the third Google. I just started the puzzle after I got the Attic key.

Edit2: I finally got the gold coin. I decided just to start the puzzle after I had already gotten the Attic key. I basically got the basement key, got the valve and attic key in one go and ran out to start gathering the remaining items to start the puzzle. When I did it that way, I immediately got the third giggle when I shot the painting. I also tried to pick up the phone to get the fifth giggle, but that didn't work for me. I basically had to watch the VHS tape until I got two ghost sightings. I'm under the impression that it's random when the ghost sightings will actually trigger, but when the game decides that you will start seeing the ghost in the VHS; all the sightings happen at once. Anyway, I saw the ghost exactly twice when the sightings decided to trigger. When I went back down to the basement, the doll triggered the laugh immediately. It seems that seeing the ghost at least twice is what triggers the fifth giggle like everyone's been saying.

Do we know, if RE7 is compatible with the Move Controller? And if so, is it a better alternative than a Dualshock for this game?

I played this last night, but didn't get to use the dummy finger, and I couldn't kill the monster in the basement with just two bullets in the gun. I don't know what to do now actually.

It really seems that the phone in the attic triggers the last giggle,i've done the same pattern like 20 times and it always work unless i forget to pick up the phone.
1-get the fuse
2-get the book
3-get the finger
4-get the vhs tape
5-get the mannequin hand, attic key and trigger the first giggle
6-use the hand in the first murder spot
7-go back to the attic and get the 2nd giggle
8-go to the basement, grab the lockpick, the attic window key and run from the monster.
9-get inside the basement again and use the hand in the 2nd murder spot.
10-use lockpick, get the axe and trigger 3rd giggle.
11-use the hand in the third murder spot and start the 4th giggle.
11-After completing the 4th murder spot, run and pick up the phone.
12-check the doll in the basement and that's it.

So weird. Maybe the "see a ghost in two runthroughs of the VHS tape" trigger was a failsafe for players who didn't think to pick up the phone to trigger the fifth giggle. But we don't know of any other alternate ways to make other giggles trigger ... I don't know why they'd program two ways to get just the fifth one.

With the game so close to release I'm surprised some of you are so reluctant to give up on turning this demo inside out.

The demo is a fun game all its own!

Question, have already done the puzzle and gotten the gold coin before doing this method? I'm wondering if picking up the pick up the phone method only works when you've already beaten the puzzle once?

The phone method didn't work for me, but I also didn't pick up the axe. Maybe you have to get the axe in order for picking up the phone to trigger the fifth giggle?

My first time was with the phone too and i never did the ghost sighting trick in the VHS world either.
I remember that i've skipped the phone step and i didn't get the giggle,so i went back to the attic to pick it up and then it worked.

I have absolutely no fucking idea,i just know it works for me.
i'll keep testing the same method with some variants because i really want to know what's up with the last giggle.
Also,i must add that i try to complete the whole puzzle as fast as possible, maybe there's a time limit? it sounds stupid but if the third giggle is triggered by doing a 180 degree turn then anything is possible i guess.

Old thread and all, but I've just finished the demo with 5 murder places discovered and I managed to get the 5th giggle without seeing any ghosts in the VHS world.

- I finished the VHS world (no ghosts) - no 5th giggle from the doll
- I picked up the axe
- I picked up the backdoor key
- I did not pick up the phone
- I finished the VHS world again with no ghost appearing (no ghosts again)
- after finishing the VHS world, I saw Jack passing through the corridor

After that, the 5th giggle worked.

I need to get this done before the game comes out. Wonder if the coin is just one extra coin to use to buy stuff and is no different from the ones you find in the game.

The demo does NOT use the Move controllers at all, and there's been no confirmation or statements at all indicating that it'll happen.

Honestly, I can't see it happening with the current configuration. Sony dropped support for the Move Navigation controller on the PS4 so no games that use Move controllers allow for the use of the Nav controller as well. Unless they introduce teleporting as a movement system, the only way you'll be able to navigate with Move controllers if one hand has the Move, while the other holds the DS4 controller.

I can confirm, picking up the phone to set up the last giggle always worked for me too. Never saw any ghost in the VHS world -_-

God, this game is awesome, so hyped for a new masterpiece RE after 4!

Anyway, it's me or the game become near unplayable if drop under 60fps? I play on PC. It's strange, because for example I'm playing ReCore in 4k and even when it drop a bit under 60 (50 or even less) I don't feel it that much because is always better than play on console. In RE 7, instead, even at like 57fps looks incredibly sluggish. It's only my problem?

The 5th giggle is driving me nuts, I cannot trigger it to save my life. I've tried looking at the doll like in the OP, I've tried picking up the phone (like another poster said). I cannot get the damn thing to trigger. It doesn't help that the ghost spawns - which I saw a suggestion that they're connected - are random as fuck from a timing/look perspective too, so no idea if that would do the trick or not.

In all of my attempts, I couldn't get out of the basement unscathed (not infected) while getting the key to despawn the monster. So I don't know if getting infected nullifies getting the giggle. I know someone said it doesn't matter, but when there is still uncertainty to how to trigger giggle five 100% of the time, I take that with a grain of salt.

Finally got around to doing the coin run yesterday but it took me a while to get the ghosts to apear in the vhs.

I finally saw one of the ghosts after 4 vhs runs but one wasn't enough to trigger the fifth giggle but luckily I saw the ghost twice on the next vhs run (upside-down on the roof, behind you, as you go into the house and then on the stairs) and then the fifth giggle worked as soon as I looked at the doll in the basement.

I know they said the supernatural stuff won't really be in the main game but I wouldn't mind something like this, as an extra bonus mode, because it was a nice nod to PT and it was fun to figure out the mystery.

In a follow-up to my last post, I found a video on YouTube where someone does a speed run and gets the dirty coin on PC. I tried it step-for-step on PS4 and got the dirty coin. In the video, they don't get hit by the molded and therefore get the True ending, but in my run-through I screwed up and did get infected; still got all of the giggles and the murder spots (and the coin) though. If you want to watch the video, here's the link.

If you just want the cliff notes, here's the steps they took:

- Pull the lever under the fireplace and go through the trapdoor that opens
- Grab the fuse and put the fuse back in the fusebox
- Go through the moldy door and grab the blank notebook
- Get the dummy finger on your way upstairs
- Push the button to lower the attic stairs and go up to the attic
- Go through the first door on your right (the "phone room"), through the broken wall, and grab the basement key on the table next to the bed in the far left corner
- Go to the wall by the locked door and the broken TV's at the other end of the room, read the writing on the wall (1st Giggle)
- Grab the hand behind the TVs, combine it with the finger
- Go back to the ground floor and point the finger/hand at the fallen bookcase (1st Murder Spot)
- Go through the kitchen and towards the backdoor to get the bolt cutters
- Cut open the chained-shut cabinet and grab the VHS tape
- Go back upstairs to the attic, but this time, pass by the phone room and turn right, look at the light to the left of the boarded-up door (2nd Giggle)
- Go back down to the ground floor, through the moldy door, and use the basement key to enter the basement
- Once you go through the white door, go to the body on the gurney and point the finger/hand at it (2nd Murder Spot)
- Go into the adjoining room, around the corner, and grab the attic key
- Sprint to the white door and try to get out, you'll be blocked in by Jack
- Quickly get behind the hanging body you can interact with and wait for a chance to shove it, knocking over the molded, use that time to bust through the door (keep pressing X)
- Before you go back upstairs, grab the lock pick sitting on the furnace box next to the water heater
- Head to the kitchen and use the lock pick to open the locked door in the first hutch, grab the axe
- On the stairs going to the second floor, there is a picture on the wall of someone with a head over their head, hit it with the axe (3rd Giggle)
- Go back down and around the corner to the room with the voodoo dolls, point the finger/hand at the boarded-up door (3rd Murder Spot)
- As you exit that room, you will see a black mirror, look at and do a quick-turn with down + Circle (4th Giggle)
- Go all the way upstairs to the attic and back to the room where you got the basement key and the hand, point the finger/hand at the blue and white wires just above the bed in the far left corner (4th Murder Spot)
- Start to head back downstairs, but while going through the phone room, make sure to pick up the phone
- Go all the way downstairs to the basement and back into the room where the molded was, go into the adjoining room, and look at the doll on the floor just around the corner (as if you were going for the attic key again) (5th Giggle)
- Go back upstairs and all the way to the kitchen, point the finger/hand at the pot of rotten stew (5th Murder Spot)
- Now go back up to the attic, through the broken wall, and to your right, the white door should have all five bloody handprints
- Go inside, read the message and get the dirty coin
- Escape and profit

I hope this helps others who were having as much trouble as I was!

Do we know if the full game will be as reliant on finding stuff? Some of you seem to enjoy turning it upside down. I don't. I know I'd spend half the time on GAF asking for help, so I wouldn't even bother.

They are targeting the mainstream audience, so there's 0% chance that the actual game will have that kind of ridiculous riddles (except for optional side quests, made for hardcore fans/ 100% achievement hunters).

This demo was just made that way to build hype among fans, and take advantage of the "P.T."-like momentum

Played the PC demo today and pretty shocked at how well it looked and the performance. TXAA is pretty awesome with 1.5 rendering. I'll get the PC version over PS4.

This is the first VR game to cause motion sickness for me - any advice on combatting that? Maybe I'm turning too much?

This question has probably been asked a million times, so I apologize in advance, but I'm at work and I can't spend too much time seeking an answer.

When I tried to download this demo last night, all that was listed was the "beginning hour" demo. Is this the version that I'm supposed to download, and will it include all of the stuff they added after the e3 reveal/demo? Thanks

Yes you got it right

Hm, I can't get the 3rd giggle to trigger.

Was there anything else you had to do besides axe/shoot the picture?
