Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

HUNK comes out of this helicopter:

Oh, shiiit! How would this even make sense though? Umbrella was reviled by the time they were brought down, and the general public at large also knew about what they were doing. How could someone start a new company called Umbrella, and expect to not be immediately hated and distrusted for associating themselves with the guys that wiped out Raccoon City? I mean, it doesn't make much sense to me. I guess the explanation could just be "Capcom thought it would be cool", but I hope there is a bit more of an explanation within the game.

If HUNK is really posing as Chris, Capcom has really outdone themselves this time. I'm genuinely impressed if this is true. Definitely need some hard receipts to believe they actually came up with the idea of such a good twist.

I really hope that the DLC is centered around Mia while she's with the Bakers for 3 years.

i really really hope the DLC is playing as HUNK specifically and just full of you being able to do sick neckbreakers in first person to random monsters while his re4 theme plays

Probably trying to fix the damage they did by glossing over their demise the first time and since it's a storyline that works why not?

Pretty much. In most cases bringing back Umbrella would be a dumb idea. But considering how shoddy they were wrapped up last time, and how every other attempt at such an organization has fell right on it's face. Makes bringing back the big bag under new management make sense. You're able to tie up a lot of lose ends with that such as the family introduced in RE6.

Wish NewsBot or Dusk were here, they could give a good explanation.

From what I know, the Umbrella Corps are a military unit of Sheng-Ya Pharmaceutical, a rival of Umbrella (and rumored to be "the Organization" Wesker and Ada were originally working with).

The logo from the chopper is from the Umbrella Corps

How or why Sheng-Ya transformed into a new Umbrella Corporation is unknown

Aren't they a mercenary unit by the end of that game?

OK, Sheng-Ya I've heard of (thanks to Dusk Golem recapping a Manga involving them), but I still think changing their name to Umbrella seems really strange. I mean, they're basically telling everyone "hey look, we're up to some shady shit here!", lol.

Alexia Ashford ran a division of Umbrella practically and was their star researcher. So it's not like the series hasn't gone there.

That's true, but that's only tallked about. You don't actually see it.
If I straight up saw natalia being escorted by Umbrella guards as the BSAA or something tried to nab her, it would be the weirdest thing.

Damn this would be interesting since we don't even know what the hell HUNK has been up to between Code Veronica (1998) and 7 (2017).

The only issue i'm seeing with this ending is how will it work for a sequel.
The whole concept of making it scary, and such was because of the regular joe characters. But a twist like this really pushes the idea that returning characters would be a focus in the next game.

Almost seems like maybe they'll be going back and forth on styles maybe.

I fucking know it. RE8 will have Jill and Chris investigating Umbrella and there will be two fucked up stalkers BOWs hunting them through the game. One male. One female. And we'll know damn right who they are T_T.

Also, let's see how the upcoming CGI Vendetta movie will tie into this if at all.

Maybe Chris finds out about this in the movie.

Could just be setting up the end of the mainline series.
Meanwhile it gives them ideas where to go afterwards.

Tie this in with Alex Wesker plot and you have a decent series climax.

Exactly. And I think you might be on to something about REmake 2 using this engine, I just can't see how they can call it the RE engine and only use it for just this game.

But we will see what happens.

Would not be the first time they forgot the ending of one game. 6's final movie for beating every campaign was to see Jake fighting BOWs in the Middle East and nothing came out of that.

So, on a different note, were any of you guys watching the stream of the full game from earlier? If so, what did you think of what you saw of the game? I tried to watch it, but I was LTTP and only able to watch about 5 minutes or so before it got taken down.

I like what I saw to be honest.

We currently have plot points from the two Revelations games and RE6 not being addressed. Even if RE7 ends with the Hunk plot twist, which is actually good, I doubt it will get addressed in the next games.

As I said above, I do hope that capcom is trying to piece everything together that they have left loose. Get natalia in a new form running this new umbrella, which was helped founded by the family simmonos mentioned. Then some plot points on the smaller things, and for the most part they'd be golden.

Capcom taking notes as we speak.

I do wonder though if they have the next games planned out, they must have right?

It's nothing like Outlast but it's heavy on the stalking stuff, so if you hate that you'll hate the game. The game opens with no stalking at all, until the moment Jack starts hunting you. And depending on how fast you go, that's like an hour full of hide and seek, as you dodge him through the house. Keep in mind, he isn't scripted in any way. The players always did shit, while you could see Jack in the distance, and very clearly hear him. He's not some homing missile to kill you.

The game structurally is 100% remake. It has all the weird puzzles that you expect. Including using a key item on a clock, to get another key item, etc, etc. Doors marked with crucified crows, scorpions and snakes. Keys that you might get later in another area (complete with an actual dead crow wrapped to the Crow Key). The only difference is instead of zombies, you get Jack trying to find you. And he's pretty easy to lose once he sees ya. And then there's the Molded. Which are essentially the zombies of RE7.

And after the first major boss fight, there was a lengthy period without Jack at all. It never felt like Outlast or Amnesia or anything. This is RE albeit with really twisted human shaped BOWs that hunt you down, but never in a cheap way. If they lose track of you, they lose track of you.

The second "big" section of the game, had the stalker enemy away for the majority of it. The stalking section lasted about 10 mins at best. Then it was just normal enemies, until the big boss fight.

Dark Natalia is gonna make a virus that turns men into...DINOSAURS.

Cool. I liked what I saw too. The little bit I saw had a lot of exploration and puzzle solving, something I think the series has sorely missed for a long time. It's more so combat I'm concerned with, and specifically how often we'll be chased by the Baker's, and how viable fighting them would actually be. It seems like it could have the potential to get a bit annoying/tedious at times. That said, it's probably the only thing I'm iffy on. I was kinda iffy on the story, but it sounds cool as shit going off this thread, and definitely has connections to the series lore, so I'm kinda on board with it now.

I hope they do, at least story wise. You can tell with a lot of the series they never really thought that far ahead. While that added to part of the charm for the series. It would be interesting to see how planning a story ahead would work for them. Since all things considered, capcom wants to be more like the west with their big IPs. Resident Evil following the trend of having a more concrete idea of where to go next would help with that ideal.

I'm sure newsbot is rolling around reading that. But looking at a lot of stuff, seems capcom most of the time has a vague idea rather than a concrete idea when it comes to plot.

Well, that all sounds awesome actually. If Jack is easy to shake off, it's not a big deal. It's only if you gotta run from end of the house to the other, or stay in a hiding spot for like five minutes till he decides to leave that I'd be bothered by it. They showed him breaking through walls and shit in the previews, and really made it seem like it would be tough to avoid/escape him.
