Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

Just started my Madhouse playthrough. During my first playthrough, I had my hunches that the scene where Mia records the video on the ship is the same scene as the one from the beginning of the game. Never noticed until this playthrough that during that first opening scene, you can actually hear the water and the ship creaking. So awesome. The attention to detail in this game is absolutely fantastic.

Anyone else get the feels during Ethan's dream sequence where Jack Baker says that they're actually a nice family who saved people from a crashed ship. Only to get fucked over royally by that initial act of kindness?
Was this a dream or a recollection of an actual conversation?

If he's remembering a conversation? When did it take place?

Neither- it's the consciousness of Jack and Zoe talking to him when he's also being taken over by Evie.

By the time Ethan meets Jack he's already completely taken over by the fungus. Mia is the only one who wavers between being sane and under control. It's all explained between the notes in the lab.

Not as hard as I thought it would be. I didn't use the boss trick tho. Used only the pistol until after the Bithday puzzle, but it's doable to use a second weapon, either the Shotgun or the Grenade Launcher. Pistol only was tricky because Marguerite takes a lot of bullets, same for the Fat Molded in the Barn.

Also if you don't get the GL in the crow room is spawns in the shack before the mines:

Who else likes the second half of the game? Lots of people posting they didn't like it; but I loved it. Especially playing my speed runs, I find that both halves compliment each other.

They're different types of gamestyle, and for good reason, you're playing as two characters.

You guys get a lot out of these Resident Evil games huh?

Im a one and done kind of guy, always have been :/

I actually loved the ship which most hated.

I like the ship, just not as much as the rest. The mines, meh, it was an ok enough finishing sequence

This one is for sure designed that way. The unlockable difficulty being very different and going out of its way to play with expectations (does granny sing at lower difficulties?), lines that take on whole new meanings on replays when you know the twists, the short length and trophies encouraging you to play through quickly, the unlockable items, etc.

#teamhunk #notmychris
If it's true that the Japanese VA is the consistent normal Chris VA all hope is lost.

What boss trick ? I am gonna try to do the less than 4 hours run with that one

On speed runs I like the latter half a lot more than I did during my initial playthrough. I still argue that the biggest sin of the Ship area is the absence of an exclusive new enemy type. Because the people on the ship were overtaken longer ago than anyone else we encounter in the game, it would have been nice to see an exclusive type of enemy during the "present" portion of the ship.

arent they all designed for replays, with the unlocks and shit.

The Baker family should have had a dog.

Imagine being stalked through one of the sections of the game by a crazy infected dog.

"Now look what you done motherfucker... bark".

It would have been great.

I'm genuinely surprised there weren't any dog variant enemies in this game. They always fucking suck, but they're like a series staple.

I think the action games expected you to play through mercenaries and stuff more than just play the campaign over and over. It was still there, but they found ways to compensate for how much longer they got.

The game sure could had used more enemies. You are in a swamp, where are the infested crocodiles?
Presumably in a place where there are crocodiles and not alligators, pal.

I'm so mad this didn't happen considering how many stuffed animals there were. I guess the excuse would be that the fungus can only interact with humans, and then bugs weren't real bugs but rather a part of Marge or something.

I missed them too but not after fighting those Licker-esque Molded. Fuck anything too fast in this gameplay style lol

With how few types there were, there's no excuse for not explaining the effects of E-Series on fauna. They took time to call out plants which had little to no bearing in the game to be worth mentioning, so a line on arthropods should've been present at the very least for its impact.

I didn't mind it. When I realized I was Mia I was playing more conservative than I did as Ethan. Running past most of the enemies in ship and not shooting unless it was really necessary made it more tolerable for me.

I ran past most enemies in the mines too, including the 2 fat molded at the end.

I really enjoyed the ship as a whole, and the mini lab and fight to the top in the mine were good as they were.

There's just nothing much to sustain at least Ethan's end of things and so much being left in the dark. Paired with it largely just going down/up one long corridor essentially and an underwhelming ending, it drags those moments down.

Speed run improves it for sure.

Yeah, going by a lot of posts here, I suppose I'm in the minority for really enjoying the ship part of the game?

I can definitely see how someone could get tired of it and say it dragged on for too long, but I enjoyed the slow burn as you unraveled the mystery. I also enjoyed how enemies were scarce, mostly just you and a creepy ship as you jog from floor to floor, trying to remember what went down.

The latter sections hold up better on replay, for me. I think the ship section is great! The mines... are over fast.

I also really like the revisit to the guest house. The giant doll on the chair is one of the best scares in the game.

I mean, even excluding the "evil little girl" trope, the game has a GIANT plot hole. During my second play, I decided to save Zoe. Two seconds after, Zoe dies with, apparently, no reason. She was infected, but we actually never saw her in the "evil" form, so we don't know how far was the infection, considering she looked ok.
We do a choice, saving Zoe...and two seconds later, Mia is on the ship. WHY? HOW?
Also why she wants to save Ethan while he decided to save Zoe instead, a girl he never met until that moment and he only heard on the phone? It doesn't make sense, she should be angry and that's it.
That choice is really stupid and it's here just to give the player a choice.

Agreed, Mia just randomly awakens in the ship like in the first choice. Until proved otherwise the Cure Mia ending is the canon and most logical one for me.

I thought the second half was actually the far superior half, the first half felt awesome in VR but I think it's a little too easy, mean while the second half was chalk full of unique encounters. The entirety of the ship was awesome.

I think my favorite part of the ship pre flash back and after flash back is that you're just always low on ammo...AND THEN YOU FIND THE SMG!

Maybe tentacles grabbed her and dropped her off by the ship. I don't know. That whole transition is strange

Given that she's still infected in the Ending 2 path, Mia was likely 'possessed' and brought there. Eveline knows the area better than the Bakers ever did at this point.

At least, from a narrative standpoint. In game they obviously didn't want to/couldn't develop a different scenario to change even the opening moment of the ship sequence.

I'm assuming Evie put her there since shes guiding her in the ship to watch the videotape. Also, saving Zoe makes sense since she helps put your hand back together, and has been helping you try to escape and create the cure in the first place.

Even then, it is pretty jarring being Mia right after leaving with Zoe.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but why did Chris come in an Umbrella chopper? Umbrella exists again? Why does Chris work for them?

I haven't played RE6, so maybe it's explained there, but can anyone tell me wtf is going on?
It's unclear as to why Chris is with Umbrella or why Umbrella is back in 2017. The popular theory going around is that Redfield is an imposter assuming Chris' identity. Umbrella has been gone for several years in the canon up to this point as well so waiting for the "Not a Hero" dlc is your best bet for finding an answer to your questions. RE6 has no connection to the events in 7.

I chose to save Zoe first time through (seemed like she had earned a cure more than Mia) and it made the entire ending sequence a confusing experience. I wasn't sure if I was playing as Zoe, or Mia, and when, and Zoe dies, but how does Mia come into the picture, and it just became disjointed - it really muddled the narrative for me.

In retrospect it's obvious what was happening, but Mia returning when I made the choice to save Zoe wasn't something I had an easy time understanding.

We don't even know that it is Chris for sure yet. Nothing in RE6 would even suggest that Chris would ever consider working for Umbrella.
