Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

I always saw Operation Raccoon City as Umbrellas version of the events, hence why it doesn't add up to the canon but many events that took place in previous RE games happened.

I really wonder why CAPCOM doesn't want to show Ethan's face throughout the game.

They went the trouble of animating the guy's face, just show it.

This is a pretty well known trope in first person gaming. The less you show of the character, the more space the player has to be himself instead of having to be in synch with what the character is thinking.
 
Finished the game. That felt really abrupt.

I wasn't expecting the final boss to be any good, but I was expecting something more than guard a couple of times and shoot the giant face

What happened to Lucas?

Yeah but generally that is more effective when the character is muted. And usually when devs go for that route they don't even bother to animate the character's head.
 
So is that really Chris at the end? I found it interesting that he introduces himself as Redfield and not Chris. I mean it makes no sense for him to be working for umbrella right? Also the umbrella logo was blue instead of red on the helicopter. Also, was Mia working for Umbrella or a different organization?

Nobody Knows.

Personally I think Mia and Chris know each other. Then this is some sort of new umbrella.
Which probably isn't bad per se, but not exactly legal like the bsaa.

I think once the game has been out for a bit it'll be interesting to see how Capcom talks about the "Not A Hero" DLC before its launch.

If the identity of "Redfield" is supposed to be a secret then it should be pretty apparent from any statements they make, which would give us some (at least tentative) answers before the campaign is available.

If Ethan is an Umbrella scientist then Chris posing as an Umbrella thug would make slight sense. They'd have them in custody and could squeeze some info on Umbrellas doings since Ethan would trust the Umbrella Corp. Chris.

A Chris clone that is made up of Weskers DNA, lol.

I was actually expecting a Leon cameo. He's more popular than Chris is right? After the credits there is the DLC image with him outside the baker house it looks like. That's not coming out until spring right?

RE5/RE6 Chris is a gay gaming icon. This "Redfield" guy is cute (though I don't think they captured the look of the model he's based off of that well), but he's nothing like the revelation that occurred when Chris discovered spandex, protein shakes, and the affection of a certain eager young military recruit.

I'm near 100% sure you see Ethan's face at the end of the game, when you return back to the mansion and you get the flash backs of Mia attacking you. When she is throwing Ethan through the wall, you see Ethan's full character model defend her attack.

I should have grabbed a screenshot on my last play through but I was doing the speed run and forgot.

I wonder why you never just leave through the front of the house. It's where Ethan and the deputy arrived from. Nevermind the puzzles, the weirdest part of the house is that there is no front door.
 
Just finished it; what a great game this is.

I wasn't so sure about a first-person RE at first but I want them to stick to this in VIII as well. Now, time to dive into the spoiler swamp
 
I know this is grasping at straws at this point, but in at the beginning of RE5 when Sheva introduces herself to Chris he says "I''m Chris" and then Sheva says "You're reputation proceeds you Mr. Redfield" and he replies with "Just Chris, thanks."
 
The lab that is found in the mines was built there because of the ship wreck right? It wasn't there before any of the events with Evelin and her escape on the ship? She takes over the ship and it explodes and wrecks close to the baker property. She takes control over the family and the area during those 3 years and then someone in that lab in the mines starts monitoring them all. It never really states who exactly. I've heard someone mention Lucas, but Zoe seems more likely considering she knew how to make a cure.

I think the oddness of "I'm Redfield." was intentional, so I think it's apt to point that out.

That's what I said as well, Chris always refers to himself by his first name. But if it is Chris, then it's just another example of character assassination, until otherwise fully explained
 
I don't get why it wouldn't be Chris. It is credited as Chris Redfield and the JP VA in RE7 is the same person who has done Chris in REmake, 6, Revelations, MvC3 and PxZ.

Yes. Was really mad that I accidentally pushed couple of balloons so that I couldn't pop them.
 
Just finished with ending 2. Zoe's exposition makes sense at that point in the story, it's about time Ethan starts finding out what's going on. Though I don't agree with his reasoning that he needs to check out the ship just because Mia was on it before *coughumbrellaemployeecough.

I guess a mixture of both choices can be proper canon.
