Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

What's up with the phone ringing after the credits, or is that not anything? Loved the game btw wouldn't mind RE to be like this from now on.

It's meant to e a zinger that someone's trying to reach Ethan. Either Zoe or possibly Redfield to go bowling.

So how has anyone compiled a list of secrets/references/easter eggs yet? I know most of them are probably in the files and flavor texts, but I did find a book in the parlor called "Wartime Photojournalism" which has to be a Dead Rising reference.

I beat the game today. Gotta admit, the switcheroo near the end was pretty dope. Playing as Mia was great. It ended really strong.

I didn't even mind that last sequence because I felt the game had blown its action game load in the mines. Ending the game with an easy big creature fight was perfect. I didn't feel like fighting another bullet sponge.

I hope they drop the FP view tho. I didn't think it added anything to the game.

I'd hate it if this was really Chris, I don't like it at all. Then again I didn't like him in RE6 that much either. He was always a favorite of mine, but it was in RE5 that he became THE favorite character.

Can someone explain the whole eveline/grandma lady thing? I'm assuming that's the twist everyone is referring too?

Their the same character.

The little girl is how eveline likes to be seen with her mind control. So in most instances, that's just a hallucination. The grandma is her actual physical form, which was caused due to advanced aging.

It's dumb.

Capcom cut the second half of that post-credits scene. It actually ends with Ethan answering the phone with the words: "...yes...I'm always at Umbrella's disposal...MR. DIRECTOR!!!"

*BAM-BAM-BAAAAAAAAM*

"...snaaaaake eeeeeaterrrrrrr."

Whew, finally finished it for the first time just now. Wow did they save the scariest part of the game for last lol when your hallucinating Mia with the chainsaw. Scared the shit out of me when I was exploring upstairs and she comes at you when your turned around to leave lol.

Finding that photo though when you return to the old house and figuring out that the old lady in the wheelchair was Eveline the entire time was perfect. Hadn't put it together at all until right at that moment.

Havent been fallowing this thread, was Mia working for Umbrella?

When does the "Not a Hero" DLC come out? I thought it was fairly soon right?

The interrupted treatment that caused her to go haywire in the ship seems to also cause her cells to degenerate rapidly, leading to old age.

The onset of this condition seems to be around September 2016. Before that, she was really a little girl.

As much as I love this game, I hope Capcom does an overhaul on the character models next time. Environments looked great, but the characters sometimes actually looked worse than last gen RE to me. Maybe it's the lighting, dunno, but they seemed pretty inconsistent.

Here's Jack in arguably his most iconic scene in the game:

Compare him to Simmons from RE6

...who looks a bit more stylized, but at least you can get a read on what he looks like.

And then there's Chris:

Here he is (or someone who looks similar) in RE7:

He's possibly the best-looking character model in the game, and is that really a console generation ahead of RE5 and RE6 Chris? I'm not so sure.

Maybe if the characters in RE7 were consistently (ever?) of this quality it would feel more like current gen:

But I don't remember Jack or Marguerite looking like that at all in my two playthroughs.

Oddly enough, Lucas always looked realistic af.

And Mia mostly looked pretty real as well.

But can't help but wonder why the models seem to be inconsistent in quality (the Sewer Gators crew didn't look that great) and why the character who is arguably the most popular in the game looked so bad most of the time. Looks like a cross gen game. I know sacrifices have to be made to have an immersive first person game that is also VR ready (it would need to run at 60fps) and of course it's a lot to ask that every current gen character matches the quality of those in Uncharted 4 or something, but not sure why they couldn't look as real or detailed as these:

Granted, the models aren't that bad, probably about average this gen for a AAA game if you consider stuff like Uncharted 4, The Order, and Quantum Break and being most high-end and maybe Titanfall 2 and Dark Souls 3 on the lower end. But surely the characters in RE8 will have a bit more detail in the next game? Am I the only one who is underwhelmed by the models in RE7? Is it even possible for the characters to look better in RE8 if it ends up being a VR title as well?

Probably because they had to factor VR performance into the equation. That said I loved Mia's character design and Lucas was fantastic. Got a lot his ticks down through animation.

Maybe if VR is a failure REVIII will go a bit more ham on the looks. That said I do think RE7 looks amazing.

Grandma is Evaline's true form. She rapidly aged after leaving the boat.
The child was just some sort of psychic projection.

Got it, thanks.

The graphics reminded me a lot of RE6. In that much like that game, they were very conflicted. Some of it looks amazing, others parts do not. It was very inconsistent to me. Now I wouldn't call it a bad looking game, but I would say the inconsistency hurts it.

However I do wish the entire game looked like that above screen shot with jack.

I think the interiors looked amazing, especially the more detailed areas, and the gloomy and very good lighting helps a lot. Foliage and the ground looked kinda butt though. The opening bits outside didn't look very good, especially since the "shiny" effect on the leaves made patches of them look like they were grey or something. Characters mostly looked pretty good, when the animations clicked they looked freak real at times (like Mia being possessed in the beginning), but sometimes the lip synch would be awful (like most of Marguerite's lines). Overall I think the game looks really good, but there's cerainly still some inconsistancies to the visuals.

Yeah I recall one moment with marguerite where she spoke and her mouth didn't even move.

Almost forgot, is the Toy Axe and Toy Shotgun useful for anything?

Toy axe is for a shadow puzzle by the trailer in the grass. The Toy Shotgun is to get the shotgun that statue is holding.

Was Mia working for Umbrella before the events of the game? Was that ever confirmed or expanded upon?

So if you try to shoot down Jack after his scripted appearance inside the bathtub room, he does not seem to drop, or at least not as fast as normal. When I met him in the hallway a minute later, he'd go down with three head shots from the Albert. I hit him with over nine shots in the bathroom room before he killed me.

I didn't even see a shadow puzzle in the yard, damn. And I replaced my old shotgun for the broken shotgun lol. I thought the toys might be used for a puzzle in Lucas's area or something so I kept them, but alas.

Like I keep saying, I fully see them going with a punished chris angle. Minus the other part of that though.

Wasn't he basically Punished Chris in both 5 & 6 though? Like both of those games were ptsd stories about the loss of a partner / squad. I think 6 actually pulled it off way better though, alcoholic American dickhead drinking his sorrows away in Eastern Europe is a way more interesting place to start that story than the way too subtle loss Chris felt in 5.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but Ethan seems to know about the boat in the save Mia timeline which make sense because his wife sent him videos from it. But in the Zoe timeline he acts like he as no idea what it is and Zoe explains why the boat is beached there. It strange why Capcom would change this scene and Ethan's expression to seeing it.

DLC is around Lucas test subjects I thought, figured thats why he was never fully killed off.
That's what I'm thinking. I loved his little section of the map, I want Capcom to expand on it and go full Jigsaw with him in the DLC. He's not dead, and there was no mention of him being rescued by Redfield. That psychotic son of a bitch is still out there.

Wasn't he basically Punished Chris in both 5 & 6 though?

6 perhaps. He wasn't entirely convinced Jill was dead during 5 and so I don't think was as emotionally screwed as he is during 6 - "Jill's body was never discovered and thus was assumed dead" - and probably was wanting to know for certain if she was dead or wasn't.

So I'm assuming that chap wasn't Chris Redfield, but the fact that the Japanese Chris voice actor voices him makes it seem likely that he is. I guess we'll see when Not A Hero comes out.

Also, what's the significance of Aunt Rhody?

And people were shitting all over me for saying this in that prerelease thread...
RE5 Chris is a better looking character model than anything in this game.

Take the humans of RE5&6 and use the new technology for clothes and gear because it does do a great job with that.

this and no title screen voice are the biggest fuck ups imo. And if these are the biggest ones the game must be pretty good :P

Didn't really miss either of those tbh. Biggest fuckup was the whole endgame. More enemy variety, better level design, less Evaline whiny brat, more Lucas...it needed something.

Yeah the character models were definitely hit or miss. I didn't really care since they don't have that much screen time really, and the environments looked amazing--and the game was all about the atmosphere and environments to me. The characters are fine, especially early on with the Baker family, the dinner scene etc. But they all mutate shortly thereafter so you're not seeing those models very much anyway. Mia got more screen time and was probably the best looking character model.

I thought the molded were pretty good. They had a nice moveset, and were creepy early on when you had to go through dark creepy, mold covered hallways and were never sure they would come out. The game needed more than just the molded though, even just for some visual variety. Zombies have blood tho so they have the edge there.
