Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

Like I said CVX is just rough these days. Graphically it looks worse than the PSX games due to its weak art direction. Then you have the easiest set ups for running into a corner, along with the weird first person stuff for some boss fights. Then there's the drop of a lot of the positive changes RE3 made.

If any game needs a remake it's CVX. If it was better put together. It would shoot up my ranks past the rev games at least.

I don't really understand why everyone is so quick to assume it's a different Chris or an impostor. Chris looks different in every game and the Umbrella logo could mean a number of different things.

As far as I am concerned it's regular old Chris dogooder Redfield until I'm told otherwise.

I think it's the simple fact that Chris is in a canon movie that comes out in a few months and while he did get slightly redesigned for the movie, he still looks close to what he did before. Why completely radically redesign the character who is going be one of the main characters of an upcoming movie? It just creates confusion.

Like why release a game that has him look like this:

maxresdefault.jpg

Only to then release a movie a few months later with him as the main character and looking like this:

Considering with the CGI films they've made sure to keep them in 'canon' with the games. This just seems odd. More so since all previous Chris redesigns following RE5 have followed a similar formula and it was still easy enough to look at him and say: "Oh yeah, it's Chris." Whereas the Redfield in RE7 looks nothing alike.

Capcom probably ducked up royally with their actor scanning. Wouldn't be surprised if by RE8 he changes his face again. If he ain't dead by then.

That movie Chris is garbage, looks more like Channing Tatum

The guy in 7 is more what I always imagined realistic Chris looking like from REmake and CV

I wouldn't put much stock in that, the movie has probably been in development for years with a Chris model they probably couldn't change. For all we know there could be minimal contact between the game and movie productions.

The CG movie wouldn't have to capture a real person's face which, as far as I'm aware, is how all of the faces in Resident Evil 7 were captured. It isn't easy to find a direct likeness to a fictional character.

And in a series with clones who look identical to the person they are cloned from it doesn't make sense that a Chris imposter would 1) not look very similar to the actual Chris Redfield and 2) take his mask off if he looked nothing like the person he was trying to impersonate. The simpler explanation is that the new technology Resident Evil 7 was built with means that Chris' look has changed, much like it did when going from the PS2 -> PS3.

Besides the movie makes Chris look like Tony Robbins, not Chris Redfield.

Lists?! Ok time to add RE7

RE4
RE2
RECV
RE5
REMake/RE1
RE7
RE3
Revelations 2
RE6
RE0
Revelations

RE3 and 7 are mostly interchangeable for me.

Shh, you're making Jawmuncher imagine a Dino Crisis game on a ship where Velociraptors stalk you.

God, I would love that.

That'd be the best use of a ship

That movie Chris is garbage, looks more like Channing Tatum

Vendetta chris looks bad when compared to 5-6 but godly compared to RE7.

There's just a weird divide right now once again. Since most people that like RE7 chris didn't like 5/6 chris to begin with. Capcom needs to drop those people though in favor of his 5/6 fans, and the mass gay following he got because of his design in those games.

Like let's say they ever remade RE5 or RE6. If chris looked like RE7 chris. There would be riots. It's by far the most radical change in face the series has gotten.

So just a story recap from my perspective so I understand.... correct anything I've got wrong.

Mia is an Umbrella employee (presumably), tasked with overseeing E-series project (Evelyn) and transporting her to South America with her co-worker. During the trip, Evelyn gets loose, goes all emo, and infects the ship, causing it to crash on the coast of Louisiana?

Just before the crash, Mia sends a video message to her husband that she lied to him, and she's sorry, and not to come look for her.

Jack Baker finds her and Evelyn, and takes takes them in to his home. Evelyn infects his family, and influences them to capture a ton of strangers to make a perfect family. Seemingly Zoe and Lucas are more resistant to the mind control effects than Jack and Marguerite.

No one can leave the estate due to Evelyn's "family" obsession, so Mia is forced to stay there, frequently being locked up by Lucas because she gets violent when Evelyn takes control of her. Eventually Evelyn decides she wants a daddy and forces Mia to sent Ethan a message to come and find her (3 years after she went missing).

When Ethan shows up, he is unwilling to play along, and wants to get out of there ASAP with Mia, so Evelyn commands Mia to kill him.

Fast forward to the end, it's revealed that Lucas was in contact with Umbrella letting them know how fucked up their "weapon" Evelyn is. Ethan makes his way back to the Baker house through the salt mines, where he confronts Evelyn in the attic, and injects her with a serum meant to terminate her. At this point I'm not exactly sure how she transforms to a Demon Wall, but oh well.

Chris (Redfield?) shows up with a team of people in an Umbrella helicopter, and takes Ethan away to safety.

Anything I'm missing or got wrong?

Beat the game on Easy and Normal, with both endings, got all Bobbleheads and 3 hour completion time. How much trouble will Madhouse mode give me? I just want the infinite ammo, I guess. How do I know when a checkpoint occurs, or is there a list of Madhouse difficulty checkpoints?

Also, is there any way to delete older saves? I filled up every slot during my first playthrough and wish I hadn't now because I'm OCD.

Mmm, lists, I can hardly resist the urge.

Masterpieces: The presence of the original PS1 trio of games (and in ascending order too) here is no mistake. While people will ultimately argue about whether RE1, 2 or 3 is the better game, the point remains that there was a time in which the franchise had three absolutely stellar titles released back to back before Capcom would muddy the waters with the release of Survivor. I firmly believe that if Resident Evil as a franchise had never gone on past the PS1 era, people would still be talking about it as one of the all time great video game series. REmake represents the ultimate refinement of that PS1 ideology and formula, and made the brave choice to scale things back rather than dial them up. Meanwhile years later RE4 would chart a bold new direction for a franchise that needed a shakeup to remain relevant, and in doing so revolutionized not just the series but the world of video games as a whole.

- REmake
- RE3
- RE2
- RE1

Great Games: Following the promise of RE2 is a series of strong games that I just don't think suit my own tastes quite as well. The emphasis on co-op was never something I liked too much as a primarily single-player gamer, but I can't deny that they were all still a lot of fun. Resident Evil 6 also has the strong distinction of being a completely unique experience, there's no game with equivalent mechanics, which is enough to elevate it above some of its messy design. I really strongly hope that Capcom iterates on RE6's gameplay some day, cause if they could give us a game with the same combat system, just slightly refined and with a more even campaign to go along with it, it'd be a heavy contender for on of the best titles in the series. Mercenaries mode in RE5 and 6 is pure, arcade action bliss and I've sunk so many hours into it the quality of it would probably warrant an inclusion here all on its own. Upon replaying Revelations 2 recently I find that my opinion of it hasn't gone down, even if the mechanics aren't quite as solid as 5/6 the progression, structure and plot of the game manage to help it rise up to sit comfortably beside them.
- RE6
- Revelations 2
- RE5

Good Games: I feel a bit uncomfortable judging RE7 so close to its release, as I've had time to do multiple playthroughs of every other game on this list (except Rev1, blegh) and let my thoughts on them sink in. Not to mention that the coming DLC could elevate it if it's good enough to make up for the lackluster second half of the main game. If RE7 had kept up the quality of the Baker Estate throughout the whole game, it would be a shoe-in for being right up there with the PS1 trilogy. But alas, they weren't quite able to pull it off. Still, the promise of RE7 remains strong, and if a possible RE8 can take everything that was good about it and flesh that out into a full game, then I think the franchise has a very bright future indeed. C:VX represents the ultimate shark-jumping moment of the series for me, bringing back dead characters and giving them bizarre motivations, taking the abilities of viruses into weird, absurd directions, and just generally lacking the refinement of previous games (why can't I freely move up stairs?!). RE0 is this but even worse, and if REmake was the ultimate expression of the classic formula, then RE0 represents everything that was wrong with it. Revelations 1 is just an all around meh game in every respect, and was especially disappointing since I didn't get to play it until a year or so after it came out and I had heard all the "best RE game since RE4!" It's one of the only games in the franchise I've never had the energy to sit through a complete, second playthrough of.

So I'm not 100% clear but I thought Umbrella Corps were a separate entity from Umbrella? Which was set up after the collapse of Umbrella to help clean up the mess that was created.

Seeing that list I refuse to believe that this is your favorite series.

nah it is. I still like the older style games as evident by Remake and RE3. But I have a preference for the story and gameplay the action series has brought. To me, RE needing to be scary and such is not needed.

As I said in another post. Can't say DC is my favorite series since it's still non-existent at this point.

Punished Chris.

I'm no hero. Never was, never will be.

In reality he got banged out and dropped like a sack of spuds getting mouthy to a BOW outside a Serbian pub again the dumb bint.

"Off to work lads"

Chris mate, wrong office.

It wont happen.

They will make it first person and they will remodel Reginas face.

They kinda did back in the day for advertising

Well they only ever made 2 games so not much of a series. Shame that rumoured third game never happened

A true pity

You're officially dead to me.

lol, don't worry i get that a lot. My taste in things is apparently mostly unparalleled and far to off the wall for most.
