Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

So when you're watching the Mia video tape you can hear and see Eveline.

That's dumb. They should have had Mia responding to something you can't see/hear on the recording.

I'm not entirely sure the video tapes are entirely "just" video tapes. Only the first one makes any sense as an actual found footage tape (and even then, what Clancy recording on? A Go-Pro that runs on VHS?). Mia's makes less sense because, once again, no present camera and somehow the footage has been taped and edited despite happening somewhere in the time period between Mia attacking you and you waking up? Who even did it, Lucas? Zoe? Jack and Marge don't strike me as the A/V Club type.

After that things just go off the deep end. Why would Lucas let Clancy carry another magic go-pro into his death trap? Where did they even get the footage for the second Mia tape? Was she wearing a body cam? Again, who recorded and taped all this? The Last one can obviously be read as a hallucination/memory but the others all have similar inconsistencies.

They might take the form of video tapes but I think it's more likely they may somehow be conncected to the idea of the shared Mold consciousness. That Mia, and maybe even Clancy, are reaching out to Ethan to try and show him what and what not to do. And since this is mold land, Eveline is there too.

Is there a possibility that it's a GoPro that just captures live feed and is then recorded onto a VHS elsewhere? The Sewer Gators could have had equipment in their van, Lucas probably just had Clancy wear one for fun so he could watch it back, and Mia probably recorded everything for work.

Am I right in assuming the Albert, at least the one Redfield gives you, fires some kind of Necrotoxin rounds? Maybe we didn't get the rocket launcher because it would've have made much sense for that to kill Eveline? I don't know.

The Albert is basically what the Neuro Grenades are in Pistol form. It's practically a semi-automatic grenade launcher making it quite possibly the most OP weapon in the series.

Maybe a rocket would spare some spores around?

I think the VHS tapes exist alongside typewriters, item boxes, RE4's merchant, etc. as gameplay devices that aren't really a part of the "real world" depicted in the games.

Necrotoxin Rocket though

I mean there was the thing that shot blue shit in CV

latest

Maybe the Albert is a smaller version of that geared towards giants faces

It is kind of odd that all of those item boxes exist. It would be funny if Jack was looking for you around the house and he stumbles upon one of the item boxes and goes:

"Need to find my knife to kill this motherfu...well well look at this. A grenade launcher with 5 flame rounds. Where's that boy at? Ethan? Ethan? Ethan!"

I can imagine him staring wistfully at his grenade launcher, hidden behind the Crow Door. " Where the hell did that no good son of mine hide that damn key.....fine, shovel it is I guess...." *disappointed sigh*

You know, that would be a pretty cool mechanic tbh.

"Where are you boy? You know how this is gonna e - lookie here, handgun ammo. I bet you'd like that. *grabs* Come on, Ethan, fight me for it!" would be pretty cool.

Chris is the new Albert Wesker. It all makes sense now. How could we be so stupid. When Wesker tells Chris about Tyrant in REmake and Chris shits himself laughing, that was the smoking gun.

That's a very good question!

Holy shit I forgot how bad Chris ethers Wesker in the original

"Chris? S-stop it!"

"He is sleeping with the ultimate failure!"

OK, so Madhouse done, with all 33 Pelican Coins under my belt. Feels good, man. I'm finally done with the game. Not sure why I would want infinite ammo now, but, hey. It's a perk.

Overall, the difficulty of Madhouse has been greatly exaggerated, if you ask me. The only parts that kinda screwed with me were the early game with Jack pursuing you all the time and much faster than in the normal game, and the part in the ship where two "fatties" spawn together. The projectile vomit attack is utter shit in tight corridors. But apart from that, I didn't find it to be that much harder than the main game. I even ended up with tons more ammo (regular and enhanced) for the handgun than in my Easy playthrough!

What a great game. It deserves to be put with the original 3. Hopefully it's the start of a new direction for the series. I'll be eagerly waiting Not a Hero next spring :)

Isn't the next banned footage volume 2 out in 2 weeks? I hope they're both more like Bedroom. Really interested to see what The Bakers were like before they were infected. Maybe not evil fucks but they are deffo dodgy. Well Jack and Lucas are for sure.

Re: Internal Reason of the Tapes - I don't think there is any outside of Derelict House Footage. They're just flashbacks with vignetting sometimes. I don't even recall any vignetting in Mia's on the boat, and that one could've been drowned and is covered in mold.
What's that phone ringing at the end?
You mean you didn't hear Lucas answer and say "Yes, Mr. President?"

"Yes, the Baker farm and research facility have been completely wiped out.

I understand, sir, but they were necessary sacrifices.

Yes, the BSAA has taken care of Eveline themselves.

That's right...

Until the very end, Eveline thought she had no family.

No, no one knows your true identity,

Wesker."

Did the guy from the bedroom footage escaped ?

He escaped... For now.

But he dies in the end. It's Clancy, and you'll see the in-between for the Bedroom DLC and the Happy Birthday Tape from RE7 in the 2nd Banned footage DLC, in the 21 chapter.

Basically Clancy's story goes like this (in chronological order):

Derelict House Tape (Beginning Hour Demo/Resident Evil 7)
Kitchen VR
Nightmare (Banned Footage Volume 1 DLC)
Bedroom (Banned Footage Volume 1 DLC)
21 (Banned Footage Volume 2 DLC)
Happy Birthday Tape (Resident Evil 7)
Resident Evil 7 Testing Area (see what Lucas did with Clancy's corpse)

Clancy lived a hard life.

Haha omg Poor Clancy. That is the worst luck

Feels bad for Clancy ,but what is up with the times on the tapes? Derelict House tape takes place on June 1st @10pm then Kitchen in between, and Happy Birthday tape taking place on June 2nd @1am. How can Nightmare and Bedroom take place in between, especially when Bedroom notes that it takes place at 4pm. Also Nightmare seems to take place on the double digit day of the month.

It at least seems to me, if we are going by the time marked on the tapes, that Derelict House Tape, Kitchen VR , and Happy Birthday tape are the only canon ones. With these DLC tapes being "what ifs" unless the tape dates are nonsense then I guess they can all be apart of his story.

Oh, we were talking about it for over a week. Since the ending is so intentionally vague, we're officially split into #TeamChris and #TeamHUNK. As for Umbrella, that's also too ambiguous to draw any reasonable conclusions on their intentions. You could say that the umbrella being blue and white could symbolize that it is not the same malevolent corporation which started all the horrors 30 years ago, but is instead a reformed one. Whether they know target and dispose of B.O.W.s or were reformed to start all the corporate shade again is anyone's guess at this point. Not A Hero DLC and hopefully Vendetta should answer most of the questions.

Thanks for the recap.

TeamHUNK for me.

So that was Chris Redfield at the end of the game? What the hell did they do to his design? Didn't look anything like Chris, which had me questioning if there was another Redfield entering the playing field.

EDIT: They also went with an another voice actor, too. Not the same guy who has been playing him for years. If they had been basing his design on his likeness, then I can understand why they changed it. He just looks too young, too though. He's in his 40s now.

That aside, I loved everything else about the game. It was so well designed and put together. Have to give that Madhouse Difficulty a shot, which sounds like it's going to be incredibly hard to complete.

-It's Chris
-He's with a New Umbrella, that's like a less restricted BSAA
-His DLC probably has him check that part of the map in the mines we didn't see. Since I don't think the ending shows him getting back on the chopper.

This is my guess, and I think Vendetta explains why chris was fed up with the BSAA

So a few random questions:

- Whats up with the D-Series stuff at the Bakers? Mia and Eveline probably brought some of it with them from a briefcase off the boat, but... what the fuck was the little girl with the D-Arm in all about then?

- Related to that, I assume The Lab where Eveline was created was somewhere else and not actually on the tanker?

- How comes no Marguerite in the shared consciousness room Ethan briefly visits? She was oddly the worst lip-synced character in the whole game too. Zoe being there without seeing her die (if you picked Mia) was weird.

- Mia's last words in the ending are so weird. "Did I?" I assume that might be setting up they're all in even bigger shit if its the actual Umbrella that's got them and not some new Goodies version Chris has set up. It's still a bizarre thing to say to your husband and close on.

So like, the company (Tentsu?) that Mia works for who is responsible for the necrotoxin is a shell for New Umbrella, right? Which means she's an Umbrella agent. At least this is what I began to assume when I played through the ship.
