Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

Man, i kinda want to start a new run(speedrun) ,but everytime i realize i have to go through the prologue again i get lazy rotfl

I know they won't do it, but I'd love to see them patch in an option where you can skip the beginning section on a new game as long as you've beaten it a few times already or something.

There's speedrun vids on Youtube, I used the one from PowerPyx, they do it in about 3 hours, like poster above said you can pause, so just watch a bit of the video, do it, pause, watch, etc. Run past most molded. Combine with no item box use trophy/achievement so you only spend time in item boxes during the designated moments in the game. You won't need to use it, since you're only mostly using ammo on bosses and the occasional molded that's in the way (had to down a few in the morgue to get the key).

I finished in 2 hours and 38 minutes so yeah following the video guide was tremendously helpful. Don't watch any videotapes either. You can run straight through the mines.

^^I concur about the intro, it's a good intro just tiresome if you're just trying to do runs

I personally loved the ship. Felt like a micro "Classic RE" game in and of itself, with lots of backtracking etc.

Ship could be my favorite part. Tracking Eveline felt straight out of Aliens and the music was badass. Music reminded me of the entrance to the REX lair in MGS1. It was also pretty scary the first time through as the atmosphere was really top notch.

YES. The part where you grab the assault rifle and start tracking her was absolutely fantastic. It really reminded me of that film, and it was great to see an "unused" Aliens reference in a modern game.

Do you guys think the season pass is worth it right now or should I wait for everything to come out and then decide?

I think it's a pretty good deal considering we already got three things from it and the next three come out on Tuesday.

God I hope Jack's Birthday lets you play as Jack running through Lucas' trial.

Also you're playing as the real protagonist of the game, badass Mia.

It made me wish you just played as her the entire game and there was no find your wife plot, you just start the game on the ship, the intro would be like the tape you watch, ship crashes, you're taken by the Bakers and are trying to find a way to call for help while trying to find a way to take out Eveline.

I did like how the actual game played out though, I did. Ethan is alright. But Mia's the bomb.

An extra gameplay mode titled ‘Jack’s 55th Birthday’ provides a race against the clock as players serve up the Daddy of the family, Jack Baker, with tons of treats for his special celebration.”

It sounds like Jack is just in the mode and not playable.

That's too bad. But that mode sounds absolutely hilarious.

Edit: I love the art they use for these

It wasn't my favorite area, but I did enjoy this section of the game. Gets more hate than it deserves. This area creeped me out and kept me on my toes during my first playthrough. I'm with you on the Aliens comparison.

Resident Evil 7 Review
backstory
When RE7 was announced as a first person game, i hated the idea, it was such a departure from the series. all my fav characters gone, i was not excited about the game at all, no previews, just a few good reviews, no excitement or anticipation for a release date.
actual review
until, i finally played the game, wow i was so blown away at how scary it was during the first hour, the moment i first got stabbed in the hand, i felt that impact as if i was ethan, i knew it was gonna be a good game, and it was, it is. the first few hours were intense with the bakers family, the psychological aspect of the game was sooo good. the lack of ammo and inventory management makes the game so intense, with no bullets when u have to run for your dear life, that was great
the story is satisfying enough, the characters were nice, i truly loved the first half of the game more because of the bakers, the enemy type namely the molded, felt like your genetic resident evil enemies but there were okay
the ending leaves a question. i would say that this could have been any other game without the resident evil title in it, but if this is the reboot or the direction capcom is going, i'm all for it. loved the game.
9/10

Third time i beat the game and I got the speedrun trophy!

What a game. so that's roughly 19 hrs spent in the game, and the credits song is so distrurbingly good.

Thy just said spring so like april-may probably.
The best thing would be to release it around Vendetta but that isn't hitting until the summer.

Will be interesting to see what it is and what it does with the story.

Favorite area is a tall order considering the main and old houses, but yeah I was swept away by the Cameron vibe of that entire section. The game, for me anyway, was perfect in scratching my horror itch as well as changing it up into more action-horror inspiration like the series has pretty much always did. Or used to. I like escalating sense of action rather than the entire fucking thing, for me the build toward the action and more intense climactic music works best when preceded by something more subdued.

Like how RE2 goes from the first 2/3 being exploration, horror, puzzle solving to a high intensity action sequence on a subway train. It just makes that feel more intense by not constantly blowing its load and saving it for the climax. I just appreciate the rising tension more and I'm okay with RE having a lot of action at the end as long as, by that point, I feel like I've also been through an immersive horror experience.

RE is great when you start off feeling helpless and by the end you're like alright motherfucker. And that's how I felt when you get a machine gun.

Just finished the game. Apart from the cave section and a bit of Lucas' section it was fantastic. The house and Marg's levels were perfection: item management, navigation, rewarding exploration, a distinct horror feel and mystery.....truly resident evil. Even the ship section was interesting.....gave me some Silent Hill vibes with its floor layout and room exploration.

The only thing the game missed was a truly final boss. Saved all those magnum rounds and grenades only to find out the final boss hardly put up a fight. Jack 1st encounter was the best encounter in the game. Really needed that big bad boss.

One of biggest worries was the lack of older characters but I have to say I loved the new cast. Bakers were very memorable, especially Jack. Mia was also handled well, liked the twist that she was involved with the bio weapons. Eveline left a bit more to be desired cinematically ( a lot of her info comes from docs) and Ethan......don't know why people were saying Ethan has no character.

Ethan was awesome. Unfazed and with an attitude. Loved his responses in later parts of the game: fuck off xD

This game is how you do survival horror. With a few tweaks to the story telling, more meatier sections akin to the first parts and enemy designs RE7 would be up with the all time greats: SH2, RE1R and RE4.

Just finished the green house boss encounter, man I hate "Spider walking" enemies at the best of times, but that was freaky as hell!

Where's the fun in watching a YouTube speed run and copying their shit. Sounds dreadful. Half the fun on my speed run was figuring out the best routes and optimal playstyle myself.

I did it for the trophy and I have other games to play :p

If there was some gaming drought (for me) going on I'd have probably tried doing it by my own experimentation. May be something I do later down the line when I've forgotten a lot of it. Not really big into speedruns either, personally. I'd rather take my time but it was still fun seeing how fast I could get through it (even with aid) and getting the trophy for it.

Not mine. I was plowing shit down.

Machine guns in general don't feel badass imo. Shotguns are way better. I wish we got a automatic shotgun instead.

You can do that but use the youtube video as a reference so you know how fast you should be where. Atleast thats what I did so I could have loaded earlier save in case I was spending too much time.

Yeah the machine gun felt so weak.
With a shotgun it's a shot or two to the head and it's done.

Considering the majority of RE4 is about fighting waves of enemies in new locations, I dunno if it really is. At best it was an action game, that knew how to give the player breathing room thanks to atmosphere and other breaks.

It hits all the right spots: inventory management, rewarding exploration, dense locales that give a dreading atmosphere (the village surrounded by forests, cultist church, research facility) and great enemy design.

Yes its on the more action adventure end, with the light hearted story scenes and wave like approach to hoards but it also nails those aspects as well. The levels offer many ways to tackle enemies, as do the weapons and though the dread is no longer there, the excitement still is.

Lastly, major props for the Regenerator section. It takes some special design to make players feel so uncomfortable, that late in the game and packing so many powerful weapons.

As a survival horror game RE4 is ass. Non-existant puzzles, minimal exploration and hardly any resource management. Fantastic action game though.

Am I alone in thinking that the Albert kind of sucks?

I said the same thing. It's a weapon that's not sure if it wants to be a pistol or magnum so it's sucks at being both. If it at least had more of a clip than 3 bullets it would be a bit better.
But the way it shoots, you would think it's a magnum.

Try using enhanced ammo. It'll make you a believer, particularly on Madhouse difficulty.

A little off topic but this game has made me unsure of the direction I want from the Resident Evil 2 remake.

It would be really neat if they used 3 different game modes to celebrate the history of the gameplay styles RE has used.
1.Classic style static camera with a REmake style overhaul towards atmosphere.
2.RE4 style action mode, with the over the shoulder RE4 camera.
3.RE7 FPS mode.

Have each one balanced differently to make the most of the gameplay styles.

I'm going to be sad when this isn't announced. :(

For anyone who's seen the Spanish found-footage horror film [REC], Marguerite's appearance in the greenhouse fight reminds me so much of the Medeiros girl.

RE4 is a horror TPS with a few overt survival horror elements -- limited inventory, ammo, health, and stop and pop.

Obviously the action elements trounce all over any intended effect the survival horror elements bring to the table. And that's fine. Those elements still keep things from getting too easy for most of the game, and opening a fully-stocked and well-organized attache case is a reward in itself. Evil Within is a game that attempts to balance the action and survival horror even further, until it realized it didn't quite work for whatever reason, so they gave the player a cure-all super weapon they can craft ammo for.

Man they totally have enough characters and weapon types to give Mercenaries a shot. They just need more regular enemies. Crossing my fingers that it's the special mode for the 3rd Season Pass DLC

Edit: Then again, Ethan Must Die reminds me a lot of Resident Evil 3's Mercenaries.

Just beat it. I definitely liked the first half of the game better than the last. The last part was still good but I didn't care for the location and supernatural type stuff. Still, a very good game and up there with the best of the series.

I picked Zoe and got the bad ending. Zoe helped you in the game and told you where to get the stuff you needed. Mia attacked you with a f'n chainsaw, stabbed you with a screwdriver and was just crazy throughout. It was a bit of a slap in the face that picking Zoe was for nothing but whatever. Still fun and I look forward to the DLC and wherever the series goes from here.

Thanks, I really wanna play the escape room thing as well so I'm gonna pick it up

Just finished it. I can without a doubt say that this is now my favorite RE game. It combined the supernatural elements of Silent Hill with the action of previous RE games. I don't understand why they kept Ethan's face hidden the whole game. It made me think they were hiding the fact that it was another STARS team member like Leon or something. However, the beginning of the game was much better than the second half. The tension seemed to fade away greatly after the Marguerite-Spider fight, and became more action oriented. Ranks up there with SH2 and 3, Alien Isolation, RE4, and PT.
